PRE-ARRIVAL CHECK LIST

1. Are certificates in order and all surveys up to date ?
If not, you should notify the office immediately and request
instructions.
2. Are all navigation charts/publications/notices as required for
this area, on board, and corrected ?
If not, you must immediately pass by telex your requirements
to the agents with copy to the management office.
3. Is navigation equipment in good working order ?
If not, you must notify the U.S. Coast Guard (if proceeding to
U.S.A port) and/or the agents, with a copy to the office giving
details of the defective equipment and requesting service
and/or repairs and/or replacement.
4. Are garbage drums on board of rail and fitted with lids ?
If not, you order immediate corrections.
5. Are safety equipment plans up to date ?
If not, you order immediate corrections.
6. Are warning notices ready for placing at gangway for NO
SMOKING - NO VISITORS - NO OPEN LIGHTS .
7. Are life boats in good condition with all SOLAS requirements
in place ? When were life boats last tested ?
When were engines tested ? When was DRILL for
abandonment of ship last performed ?
If any defects are found or if you have any doubts for the good
order, you must notify the office immediately.
8. Are life boats and Bridge pyrotechnics in date ?
If not, you request the agents with copy to the office for
renewal.
9. Are rations in life boats in date ?
If not, you notify the office for proper corrections.
10. Has pilot ladder been checked ? Is rope in a good condition ?
Are there any broken steps ?
If not, you order immediate corrections.
11. Is pilot ladder lifebuoy ready and complete with heaving line
and self-ignition light ?
If not, you immediately correct.
12. Are lifebuoys in place with all attachments in good condition ?
If not, you rectify or you request agents/office for rectification.
13. Are fire hoses/nozzles/extinguishers in place and in good
order ? When were extinguishers last serviced ?
If not, you immediately notify the office for proper corrections.
14. Are fire hydrants in good condition ?
If not, you order immediate corrections.
15. Is international shore connection complete with nuts, bolts,
washers, gasket ?
Is it readily available ?
16. Has emergency steering been tested and was entry made in
logbook ?
If not, you notify the office immediately.
You are not authorized to leave the port unless emergency
steering is placed in good order.

To be completed before arrival each port, and completed form to be attached to the relevant page of the Deck Log Book.

17. Has emergency fire pump been tested and was entry made in
logbook ?
You are not authorized to leave the port unless emergency fire
pump is placed in good order.
18. Are fire flaps and dampers working free ?
Please correct any defects.
19. Are flame screens in place and in good condition ?
If not, you order immediate correction/renewals.
20. Are all watertight doors and access to cargo holds in
good/tight condition ?
If not, you order immediate repairs.
21. Are spill containment devices in position around bunkers,
vents, sounding pipes, manifold, drain plugs, in place ?
If not, you order corrections.
22. Are deck and cargo lights waterproof and well protected ?
If not, you isolate defective lights until you arrange
replacement and/or repairs.
23. Are scupper blanking devices ready for use ?
24. Is there sufficient quantity of Oil Spill Detergent available on
board ?
If not, you give order to agent/office.
25. Are Engine Room bilges/boiler room bilges/De Laval room
bilges clean and oil free ?
26. Is bunkering procedure plan posted and are responsible
persons aware?
27. Has bunker line been tested to 8 kg/sq.cm. during this
voyage?
Have necessary repairs been done ?
If not, do it now and do not take bunkers before necessary
repairs are arranged.
Notify the office immediately.
28. Is oily water separator in good working condition ?
If not, you notify office immediately.
29. Are galley, pantry, dining rooms, toilets clean ?
30. Has fire line been tested to 8 atm. during this voyage ?
If not, do it now and report immediately to the office.
31. Are intercommunications systems all in order ?
32. Has telegraph Bridge/Engine been tested ?

It is clearly stated that any defects of missing items in respect

of Navigation, SOLAS, MARPOL, should be attended and
completed prior to the next voyage.
