Course Number: MATH 120

Course Title: LINEAR ALGEBRA


Course Description: Solution of system of linear equations by matrices; matrix
operations and vector spaces; linear operators and linear transformations;
determinants and eigenvalues.
Course Prerequisite: Math 37 and Math 101 or COI
Course Credit: 3 units
Course Objectives:
At the end of the course, the student should be able to:
1. Define and illustrate vector space, basis, dimension, rank, determinant, linear
dependence/independence;
2. Perform operations on matrices ;
3. Define and illustrate a linear transformation and its corresponding matrix;
4. Determine properties of the linear transformation.
5. Find solution(s) of a system of linear equations, if it exists;
6. Construct a normal orthogonal basis from a given basis;
7. Diagonalize (if possible) a given matrix;
8. Prove propositions about matrices, determinants and vector spaces;
9. Prove theorems in linear algebra.
