INTRODUCTION

Labor union also known as trade union. It basically is an organization of the workers
by the workers itself and for the workers. There are many country that support this
organization which is more than 15 country excluding Malaysia. In Malaysia the labor union
is under Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC). Its designed to improve the workers
economics and other interest within the framework of employee-employer relationship. The
worker interest can be like wages and salaries, working conditions, working hours, etc. Thus,
a trade union is meant to conduct negotiation on behalf of individual workers in respect of
several items Currently, there are two law involve in this union which is Trade Unions Act
1959 (TUA) and Industrial Relations Act 1967 (IRA). There are action done by trade union
like strengthen bargaining power, minimize unfairness, protect and advance economic
interest of worker and others. The importance of trade union cannot be deny but there are also
a disadvantages of having a trade union in an organisation for example uneven growth, low
membership, outside leadership, multiplicity of union, intra-union rivalry, lack stress on
welfare, the loss of individuality, the cost to employees, members can be fined or otherwise
disciplined by their union for engaging in activities, lack of public support and others. In this
task our group are instructed to find out more about the unessential about labor union which
need to present in debating form.
CONCLUSIONS

As the conclusion, on our opinion we found out that labor union bring more
disadvantages to individual or the company or organization but its depend on how the
organisation of the labor union in the particular company itself can manage it. As stated
above, we decided that the that labor union bring more disadvantages to individual or the
company or organization after considering the probability to cope with the challenged of the
labor union is difficult in many terms as our group has done the research for example having
the labor union organisation, the organisation need to face the loss of individuality, risk can
be fined or otherwise disciplined by their union for engaging in activities, lack of public
support and others. Although its can bring disadvantages, its also can bring the advantages if
and only when the labor union organization in particular company manage to handle and cope
the challenge successfully. There are a lot of pros and cons of the labor union we found out
during making the research on this topic. Proper decision need to be made if a company is
considering to establish this organization or may lead the company to ruin.
Result

As we know before, we have discussed about labour union is essential to all


companies. But we stand as a protester and we found out that there are no reasons to
stand or to support the government about this topic. There are so many reasons to
prove that labour union isnt essential to all companies at all.

First reasons are loss of personal autonomy. Since more workers are already relying on the
labour union, they can no longer work individually. There are instances that you are no
longer with the labour unions decisions but still you cannot work on your own since you are
always bound in them.

There also about union dues. There are union dues implemented by labour union that need
to be paid by the workers in order to be raised for their associations improvement. But for
workers who cannot pay for these dues, the labour union would be holding them and they
will not be given the chance to be promoted to higher working positions as the payments for
not paying the required dues they intend to pay.

Other reasons would be job loss. Since there are also some labour unions which are not
continuously improving, more workers would be exposed to unemployment since the
association is already getting slow and declining. Labour unions plays an important role in
peoples life since they are giving the people the chance to land a job and at the same time
fight for the valuable right that they deserve. Although there are some instances that this
association are seen to be disadvantageous in some ways, more people are still joining the
association since they are more of the benefits that these are providing to them.

Next is a system of abuse. When they were first established, labour unions served a
wonderful purpose. The working conditions in factories during the late 1800s were horrible,
and the pay was just as bad. Labour unions helped to stop this abuse of labourers. However,
in todays modern times, the labour union systems are greatly abused. People know exactly
what their company can and cannot fire them for. All of the loop holes have been exposed
and exploited with labour unions.
The other reasons would be hard workers are devalued. Fair wages mean that all
employees of the same level are paid the same. This is very bad for a business because some
workers simply deserve higher pay than others. When there is no possibility of division, then
no one strives to be better and high quality workers do not feel that they are valued and are
not motivated to keep the good work going.

Seniority is toxic also need to be considered. Industries that are ruled by labour unions have
to follow strict rules, especially when it comes to job promotions. Typically, the job is given
to the employee who has been at the company for the longest. Qualifications and skills are
not even taken into account. This is bad for everyone because a person who has been at a
company for the less amount of time may be the best fit for the job, but they are not given the
job because someone, who may be less fit for the particular job, has to be given it simply
because they have been there longer.

We have found so many reasons to against the suggestion of labour essential to all
companies. When we talk about positive side of labour union, there are also negative things
that we need to consider before we support the topic to be approved.
