What is the Gift of Miracles?

To another the working of miracles. - 1 Corinthians 12:10

Over the next few lessons we will be looking at the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, so that we will have a
better understanding of them, of how they work and how we can benefit from them as a body. By
the end of the lessons we want to be driven to pray to ask for the gifts, because we are missing out
on so much. Some of the gifts may use the same Scriptures in acting them out but each gift has its
own working. Please study them again and again as we want the Holy Spirit to pour out the fullness
of the gifts, so we can serve the Lord better and each other and be a better testimony to the lost.

What is the Gift of Miracles?

A miracle is when everything that world offers in a given situation and can't correct the problem,
God does something super natural to do it. The Gift of Miracles is a gift given to someone by the
Holy Spirit. This person will not have use of the gift all of the time, ONLY when the Holy Spirit
gives them the power to do the miracles. The person who has this gift must also have the gift of
faith to act out the gift of miracles as well.

Just because someone does miracles it does not mean that they are from God. Matthew 7:21-23,
these people did many great things in Jesus name and they were not born again. We don't follow
Jesus because of miracles, we follow Jesus because He save us from our sins. Also the Antichrist
will come with signs and wonders 2 Thessalonians 2:9. In Matthew 24:24, this tells us that many
false Christs will also do signs and wonders. Miracles back up the Word of God, our walk with the
Lord must be in walking with the Word of God, miracles do increase our faith but they are not the
foundation for our faith. We must remember it doesn't matter how may miracles a man does, we
never give praise to that man, the praise and the glory goes to the Lord. If you see someone getting
praise and liking it, get away from that person they are leading you down an ungodly road.

The Gift of Miracles in Scripture

There are lots of places in Scripture with people who have the gift of miracles. Moses had this gift.
We see when God used Moses in Egypt to bring the plagues. In Exodus 7:20 waters into blood,
Exodus 9:22-23 Hail and fire, Exodus 14:21-22 the parting of the red sea, Exodus 17:6 Water
from the rock.

Elijah also had this gift of miracles 1 Kings 17:12-16 the widows oil, 1 Kings 17:21-22 the widows
son raised, 1 Kings 17:1-2 no rain, 1 King 18:41-45 rain comes, 1 Kings 18:37-39 calls fire down
from Heaven.

Like Elisha the prophet we should not expect to be paid for miracles, we see that his servant got
Namaans leprosy, because the servant went and got paid for the miracle that Elisha had done 2
Kings 5:26-27. When you see these people on the television asking money for miracles saying they
are doing God's work, they are NOT doing God's work. They are false and are liars stay away from
them, no one gets paid or praise for miracles, GOD only gets the praise.

Our Lord Jesus used Miracles, Luke 7:12-16 widow of Nain's son raised, John 11:43-44 Lazarus
raised, Matthew 14:19-20 feeding of 5000, Matthew 14:34-36 people only had to touch Him and
they were made well.

The Heart for the Gift of Miracles

With the gift of miracles it is very easy to get puffed up and have praise from others. As with all the
gifts, miracles is for the body of Christ 1 Corinthians 12:7. With the gift of miracles we should
always point to God, many times in Matthew, Jesus used miracles to back up his teaching, miracles
always back up the Word of God, and they should increase our faith when seen, giving glory to
God, but they should also be used to drive men to repentance Matthew 11:21-23, miracles do not
save the soul, preaching the gospel leads people to be saved, miracles back up what we are saying.

Questions

1) Read 1 Corinthians 12:31. This tells us to look to get the best gifts. Do you want to have the gift
of miracles? If you do, ask yourself why you want this gift. Do you want it to lift the Lord up, that it
would give strength to your brothers and sisters and bring others to repentance. Or do you want the
gift so others will look at you and say how great of a man of God you are, if this is the reason why,
repent of such thinking as it takes glory away from the Lord, test your heart about this gift, as it is
one of the easy ones to get glory away from the Lord.

2) Read Matthew 7:22-23. Do you like watching these faith healers or t.v money preachers? If you
do ask yourself why. These people are not doing God's work, they are doing Satan's work. They are
taking people away from Jesus and they could take you to. For you to keep spiritually well, turn
these workers of Satan off and get into your Bibles, because if you read your Bibles you will see
that they are false. Talk to your Pastors to help you and point you in the right way, they love you
and want whats best for you.
