Stages Activities Strategies Time

(min)
Pre-reading Teacher asks students to get in groups of 3 or 4, and gives students a 12 minutes
preparation exercise, Check the meaning of the words (with a different
list of words for each group). They have to check the meaning of their Peer teaching
words. Then students are regrouped and teach their new words to their vocabulary
peers. This activity will help them to understand some of the more
difficult words in the story.
5 minutes
Teacher check with students the peer-teaching vocabulary exercise.
Eliciting 8 minutes
Teacher shows students pictures that are related to the story, and ask the information
whole class to guess what the story is going to be about. The aim here is
for students to effectively create their own story before reading, and to
elicit what the story is about.
While-reading Teacher gives students a copy of the text Ex Poser by Paul Jennings to 30 minutes
read it. Metacognition

Teacher and students compare students predictions of the story, and asks
students: What is your opinion about David, the narrator? 5 minutes
Do you think Sandra will still be in love with David after the lie detector
test, or will her feelings change?

Teacher gives students a short and easy worksheet to check students

understanding. They have to put the description with the correct character. 8 minutes

Teachers show students a short video: How to tell if someone is lying to

you. 2 minutes

Game after the lecture: Teacher ask students to get in trios and to imagine Collaborative 15 minutes
Post-reading they have a lie detector! They have to create some questions they would work
like to use with this machine. As they will work in trios, one is going to
ask, a second student answer playing the role of a famous person, and a
third student analyse the reactions of the student being interrogated, while
taking notes.
5 minutes
Teacher and students reflect on the activity done.
