EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Tata Trusts aim to achieve their smart village mission of 2020. The villages being talked about are
tribal villages who have lived through decades of poverty and underdevelopment. The aim is to improve
livelihood and provide irreversible and sustainable ways for progress.

SITUATION ANALYSIS
The Central Indian Tribal belt is a home to 65% of the tribal community. Tata Trust aims to work for these
communities spread across Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Orissa,
Jharkhand and West Bengal, who have faced marginal growth opportunities. The core focus within the
initiative is towards developing sustainable livelihood opportunities for the tribal communities and ensure
that their income levels are enhanced substantially.

PROBLEM STATEMENT(S)
Improve livelihood of tribes by:
1. Ensuring agricultural productivity stabilisation and growth
2. Creating Marketing Linkages
3. Improving Healthcare
4. Providing alternate employment opportunities
5. Better education facilities
6. Using technology and banking (microfinance) facilities

AGRICULTRE PRODUCTIVITY
1. Sharing best agriculture practices among different villages
2. Collaborative farming
3. Providing timely information about weather conditions and other agriculture related activities
4. Production of organic products
5. Promoting animal husbandry
6. Providing farming machinery
7. Soil fertility management and crop rotation
8. Promoting aquaculture
9. Helping reduce crop damage
10. Using different methodologies according to water scenarios in different states
11. Using alternate techniques to provide water for irrigation

PORTABLE WATER AND SANITATION
1. Aligning with PMs plan of toilets we should promote building toilets. Meanwhile, we can set up E-toilets(
Remote) and Sulabhs
2. Nukad nataks and camps for increasing best practices awareness
3. We should tie up with http://www.safewaternetwork.org/ to provide clean and cheap water

MARKET LINKAGES
1. Setting up cooperatives and hubs to have a single representation
2. Use big data to predict the demand for crops which will help in clearing the perishable goods first
3. Using data analysis to determine the high commercial value crops

IRRIGATION FACILITY
1. Adopting drip system techniques for water and applying rain water harvesting to collect water for
harvesting
4. Growing crops which have higher value and require less water like Cabbage, Sprouts, peas, Lentils,
broccoli, Cauliflower, turnips, corn and lettuce according to different land type
HEALTHCARE
1. Tying up with good city doctors for online checkups for common prevalent diseases
2. Setting up quarterly camps for checkups for diseases like Diabetes and water borne diseases
3. Create a single hub for subsidized medicines for multiple villages
