ABT 1 HR
All questions as per his set hardly any deviation, few of them will mention them below.
2. PSC - changes in latest Reso. a/1052 and procedure for control as per PSC for ISM.
3. CO2 requirements - why only CO2 and no other gas, size and capacity of the standard CO2
containing cylinder and maintenance requirements monthly,yearly,intermediate,10Yrs and 20Yrs ,
boiling point of CO2 and N2.
4. Open Moor, close moor, baltic moor, medi moor and difference between baltic and medi moor.
6.Leak of Chem cargo in Void Space action and which all regulations applicable.
7. Reso. A/852
8. Guidelines for sailing in Non Sar areas, i think the resolution is 1148 or 1184, one of these.
9. a.814
10. Rule in the order 8,19,13 - but for him prepare 2,9,10 also. besides 17 also some times, though
rarely.
12. MS act full - definition, contents, amendments and Part 12 with special reference, registration of
ship.
16. Damage stability as per IGC and IBC and the difference, IBC - different type of ships.
Only general discussion and his advise for the sailing as master and precautions. Wished me and he
didnt seemed interested to ask any question. It was like a open discussion with him and no oral.
There are a few question which i am missing now. Will update as i will rem. Its hard work and luck
both and selective study for the Surveyor specific. But Wednesdays are Capt. Panigrahy day and he is
specific to his set. Prepare hard cause it is easiest to pass from. Work hard and party hard later.
Trick to impress Capt. Panigarhy is to quote the Assembly resolution and SOLAS or other relevant
Regulation with number and dont stop in between answering the question.

At the end of this session a big fat welcome P was scrawled across my AXN-45 and I left DG with a
smile on my face. A special round of thanks goes out to Capt. Sagars tutorials and all those who
benefited most out of them - my wonderful study partners Sagar Swani, Harsimran Singh Cheema,
Kedar Thakare & Surendra Singh Rathore without whose constant help, motivation &
encouragement this endeavor would not have been possible. Also another volley of appreciation to
Capt. Cheemas tutorials which really helped in the slog overs. And a last round of thanks to all my
batch mates of MASSA ASM 01/2014 who it has been a pleasure to learn with
One suggestion to all candidates appearing in DG please do not reach before 0930 . as nothing
moves in DG until 1000. I hope all of you pass 1st shot too. Cheers!!!

Interim SMC:
* Issued to a new ship on delivery OR when company takes on responsibility for operation of a new
ship OR when a ship changes its flag.
18. Ship on fire off Maldives, how will u transmit a distress alert?
Maldives Coastguard is responsible for SAR activities around the water of Maldives. It is based in
Male, the capital of Maldives. The coastguard maintains a continuous listening watch on VHF Ch 16
and 2187.5 kHz.
If my ship is on fire off Maldives, I will transmit a distress alert using VHF and MF DSC, giving the
ships details including position and nature of distress. Additionally, I will supplement the DSC alert by
voice broadcasts on VHF Ch 16 and on 2182 kHz. I will also send out a distress alert via Inmarsat C.
* LSSA Clauses include security for Arbitrators and Appeal Arbitrators Fees
As per ISM Code Reg. 4, every Company must designate a peron or persons ashore with direct access
to the highest levels of management. The responsibility and authority of DPA includes monitoring
the safety and pollution prevention aspects of the operation of each ship and ensuring that
adequate resources and shore-based support are applied, as required.
For regular cargo spaces, requires that the quantity of carbon dioxide provided is to be sufficient to
give a minimum volume of free gas equal to 30% of the gross volume of the largest cargo space so
protected in the vessel. In ro-ro and cargo spaces intended for carriage of motor vehicles with fuel in
their tanks and capable of being sealed, the minimum required concentration is 45% of the gross
volume of the space
Machinery Spaces. The quantity of carbon dioxide gas for fire-extinguishing for machinery spaces is
to be sufficient to give a minimum volume of free gas equal to the larger of the following volumes,
either:
a. 40% of the gross volume of the largest machinery space so protected, the volume to exclude that
part of the casing above the level at which the horizontal area of the casing is 40% or less of the
horizontal area of the of the space concerned taken midway between the tank top and the lowest
part of the casing; OR
b. 35% of the gross volume of the largest machinery space protected, including the casing.
* 85% of required concentration for machinery spaces and cargo pump rooms should be achieved in
two minutes.
* At least 50% of the required amount of gas should be discharged in the first one minute of
operation.
* CO2 pipes to cargo hold should not pass through machinery spaces.
* All CO2 pipes within machinery space have to be tested to 122 bar.
* Operating instructions must be displayed near remote operating controls, distribution control
valves, and the gas cylinders.
* When access to the release compartment is locked such as in the CO2 room, one key should be
provided adjacent to the entrance in a marked glass front box.
* Alarm systems should be powered from two sources, one of which should be an emergency
source.
The Rotterdam rules (or United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Carriage of
Goods Wholly or Partly by Sea) is a treaty comprising international rules that revises the legal and
political framework for maritime carriage of goods. It establishes a modern, comprehensive and
uniform legal regime, governing the right and obligations of shippers, carriers, and consignees. The
aim of the convention is to extend and modernize international rules already in existence by
updating and replacing provisions of the Hague, Hague Visby, and Hamburg rules.
The Rotterdam Rules will enter into effect when 20 countries ratify that treaty. As of 9 August 2011,
there are 24 signatories to the treaty. India has not signed the Rotterdam Rules. Upon entry into
force of the convention for a country, it should denounce the conventions governing the Hague-
Visby Rules as well as the Hamburg Rules as the convention does not come into effect without such
denouncements.
* While the Hague and Hague Visby rules emphasize the production of bill of lading as a basis of
contract, the Rotterdam rules refer to transport documents or electronic transport records.
* Rotterdam rules are so designed so as to be easily applied to contracts of a multimodal nature that
include a sea leg.
* Rotterdam rules cover rules door-to-door carriage transactions.
* Under Rotterdam rules, the carriers responsibility with respect to seaworthiness is not only before
and at the beginning of the voyage, but continues throughout the voyage.
* The Rotterdam rules provide for liability of the carrier in instances of delay and allow for the
compensation for economic loss arising from such delay.
* The Rotterdam rules provide for 875 units of account per package or 3 units of account per kilo,
whichever is higher: those are the limits of liability of the Rotterdam rules.
* Existing rules (Hague, Hague-Visby, Hamburg) did not properly cover the multimodal transport of
goods. Rotterdam rules are so designed so as to be easily applied to contracts of a multimodal
nature that include a sea leg.
* They extend the carriers responsibility with respect to seaworthiness to all stages of the voyage.
* They promote the use of electronic bills of lading which leads to faster and more flexible
transactions.
* There has been a wholesale update to the text (as opposed to insertions and deletions used in
resolution A.882(21)), including major organizational changes.
* Initially res.787 had 6 chapters and 7 appendices and 40 cert., but as per Res 1052 there are 5
chapters and 18 appendices and a list of 60 certificates.
* New Addition Appendix 16: Format for the report of contravention of MARPOL (article 6)
* There have been the following additions to Appendix 18: List of Instruments Relevant to Port State
Control Procedures:
o MARPOL Annex 6
o Ballast water Management
A preliminary inspection is a cursory look at the condition and operation of the ship to get an initial
idea of whether the ship is functioning safely and complies with the various international
conventions. A PSC inspector normally boards a ship and carries out a preliminary inspection. If he is
satisfied, he limits his inspection. However, if he has reason to believe that there is a lacuna in the
normal functioning on board, he is bound to carry out an in-depth analysis of the management
system on board towards safety of ship and personnel and protection of marine environment. This is
called a survey.
* LSSA (Llyods Standard Salvage Agreement) Clauses now include Security for Arbitrators and
Appeal Arbitrators Fees
Chapter II-1: Construction - Structure, subdivision and stability, machinery and electrical installations
* Part B-3 - Subdivision load line assignment for passenger ships: Reg 18 Assigning, marking and
recording of subdivision load lines for passenger ships
Chapter II-2: Construction - Fire protection, fire detection and fire extinction
* Reg 1: Definitions
* Reg 2: Application
* Reg 4: Certification
The latest amendment to the ISM Code is as per resolution MSC.353(92) which will come into force
on 1st Jan 2015. The salient points of the amendments are:
* 6: Resources and Personnel: The Company should ensure that each ship is:
o appropriately manned in order to encompass all aspects of maintaining safe operations on board*
* 12: company verification, review and evaluation:
o "12.2 The Company should periodically verify whether all those undertaking delegated ISM-related
tasks are acting in conformity with the Company's responsibilities under the Code."
* The following new paragraph is added to the foreword of the publication of the Code: "The
footnotes given in this Code are inserted for reference and guidance purposes and do not constitute
requirements under the Code. However, in accordance with paragraph 1.2.3.2, all relevant
guidelines, recommendations, etc. should be taken into account. In all cases the reader must make
use of the latest versions of the referenced texts of the document specified in a footnote, bearing in
mind that such texts may have been revised or superseded by updated material."
* Footnotes have been added to the following terms to refer to the following:
o Revised list of certificates and documents required to be carried on board ships (FAL.2/Circ.127,
MEPC.1/Circ.817 and MSC.1/Circ.1462)
An act to foster the development and efficient maintenance of an Indian mercantile marine in a
manner best suited to national interest.
The Antifouling Paints Convention has been incorporated into MSA Chapter XIB on 18 Mar 2013.
Amendments to incorporate MLC has been produced in Rajya Sabha on 19th Aug 2013.
31. Contents of CSC 1972 (International convention for safe containers)?
* Article IX. Procedure for amending any part or parts of the present Convention
Synchronous rolling occurs when the natural rolling period of the ship coincides with the encounter
wave period, resulting in large rolling motions of the ship. In other words, ships rolling period
become synchronous or resonant with the encounter wave period. When this occurs, ship will heel
over and in extreme cases, roll over beyond her angle of vanishing stability, causing it to capsize.
The encounter wave period is the period in which the ship meets the waves (period of pitching of
the ship in seconds) and is dependent on the wave velocity, ships speed, and relative heading of the
ship to the seas. The natural rolling period of the ship depends on the shape of the underwater
portion of the ship and GMT.
To reduce or offset synchronous rolling, any of the following or combination of the following actions
may be taken:
* Change the heading of the ship so that there is a change in the encounter wave period.
* Natural rolling period of the ship may also be altered by changing the weight distribution on board
such as through transfer of ballast or consumables.
* Activate SSAS, if not already done so. Transmit distress message on VHF, MF/HF DSC, and
Inmarsat-C.
* Disable bridge controls for engine and steering. Allow engine room to take over controls. If Engine
room or bridge is to be abandoned, reduce speed and try to take all way off.
* Proceed immediately to the Citadel taking additional radios, rations, and water as possible.
* Keep calm. Instruct all crew to remain calm and docile and offer no resistance.
* All personnel should keep low to the deck and cover their head with both hands, with hands
visible. On no account should personnel make movements which could be misinterpreted as being
aggressive.
* Be prepared to be challenged on your identity. Brief and prepare ships personnel to expect this
and to cooperate fully during any Naval/Military action onboard.
* Be aware that English may not the working language of all Naval/Military forces in the region.
* It is a document of title.
Clear grounds: Evidence that the ship, its equipment, or its crew does not correspond substantially
with the requirements of the relevant conventions or that the master or crew members are not
familiar with essential shipboard procedures relating to the safety of ships or the prevention of
pollution.
ii. evidence from a review of the ship's certificates that a certificate or certificates are clearly invalid;
iii. evidence that documentation required by the applicable conventions and listed in appendix 12 is
not on board, incomplete, not maintained or falsely maintained;
iv. evidence from the PSCO's general impressions and observations that serious hull or structural
deterioration or deficiencies exist that may place at risk the structural, watertight or weathertight
integrity of the ship;
v. evidence from the PSCO's general impressions or observations that serious deficiencies exist in the
safety, pollution prevention or navigational equipment;
vi. information or evidence that the master or crew is not familiar with essential shipboard
operations relating to the safety of ships or the prevention of pollution, or that such operations have
not been carried out;
vii. indications that key crew members may not be able to communicate with each other or with
other persons on board;
viii. the emission of false distress alerts not followed by proper cancellation procedures; and
ix. receipt of a report or complaint containing information that a ship appears to be substandard.
36. What checks and maintenance for CO2 system for 10 yr old vessel?
MSC Circular 1318 gives Guidelines for The Maintenance And Inspections Of Fixed Carbon Dioxide
Fire-Extinguishing Systems. In addition to the checks specified in this circular, I will follow the
procedures laid down by my Flag State, Companys procedures and manufacturers instructions:
* Monthly inspections: At least every 30 days a general visual inspection should be made of the
overall system condition for obvious signs of damage.
* Annually:
o All entrance doors to protected space to close properly and have warning signs.
o Remote release controls to have clear operating instructions.
o High pressure cylinders and pilot cylinders to be weighed. Cylinders with less than 90% of nominal
charge to be refilled.
o Discharge piping and nozzles should be tested to verify that they are not blocked.
* Every 2 years:
o All activating heads should be removed from the cylinder valves and tested for correct functioning.
o Manual pull cables that operate the remote release controls should be checked to verify the cables
and corner pulleys are in good condition and freely move.
o All cable components should be cleaned and the cable connectors should be properly tightened.
* Every 10 years:
o At least 10% of the total number of cylinders provided should be subjected to an internal
inspection and hydrostatic test.
o If one or more cylinders fail, a total of 50% of the onboard cylinders should be tested.
o Flexible hoses should be replaced at the intervals recommended by the manufacturer and not
exceeding every 10 years.
37. What checks will you do for CO2 system for 20 yr old vessel?
In addition to the checks mentioned above, all cylinders to be pressure tested, with subsequent
pressure test every 5 years.
38. Chapters of MLC 2006 and all you know about MLC?
* 16 Articles
* 5 Titles:
o Title 4:Health protection, medical care, welfare and social security protection
* Appendices:
o Appendix B5-I
Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) is drafted in four layers. The layers consists of :

* To ensure that governments and ship owners are committed to establishing decent working and
living conditions for seafarers.
* To put control and enforcement mechanisms in place to ensure there is a level playing field.
* To set minimum standards to address the health, safety and welfare of seafarers in areas such as:
o Conditions of employment
o Accommodations
o Recreational facilities
o Health protection
o Medical care
Titles:
Title 1: Minimum requirements for seafarers to work on a ship: The minimum requirements set out
in this section of the code are divided in 4 parts and are summarized below:
* Minimum age requirements: the minimum age is 16 years (18 for night work and work in
hazardous areas).
* Medical fitness: workers should be medically fit for the duties they are performing. Countries
should issue medical certificates as defined in the STCW (or use a similar standard).
* Training: Seafarers should be trained for their duties as well as have had a personal safety training.
* Recruitment/placement services located in member states or for ships flying the flag of member
states should have (amongst others) proper placement procedures, registration, complaint
procedures and compensation if the recruitment fails
Title 2: Employment conditions: The Title on employment conditions lists conditions of the contract
and payments, as well as the working conditions on ships.
* Contracts: the contract should be clear, legally enforceable and incorporate collective bargaining
agreements (if existent).
* Payments: Wages should be paid at least every month, and should be transferrable regularly to
family if so desired.
* Rest hours: rest hours should be implemented in national legislation. The maximum hours of work
in that legislation should not exceed 14 hours in any 24-hour period and 72 hours in any seven-day
period, or: at least ten hours of rest in any 24-hour period and 77 hours (rest) in any seven-day
period. Furthermore the daily hours of
rest may not be divided into more than two periods and, at least six hours of rest should be given
consecutively in one of those two periods.
* Loss: If a ship is lost or foundered, the seafarers have a right to an unemployment payments.
Title 3: Accommodation, Recreational Facilities, Food and Catering: The title specifies rules detailed
rules for accommodation and recreational facilities, as well as food and catering.
* Accommodation: Accommodation for living and/or working should be "promoting the seafarers'
health and well-being". Detailed provisions (in rules and guidelines) give minimum requirements for
various types of rooms (mess rooms, recreational rooms, dorms etc.).
* Food and Catering: Both food quality and quantity, including water should be regulated in the flag
state. Furthermore, cooks should have proper training.
Title 4: Health Protection, Medical Care, Welfare and Social Security Protection: Title 4 consists of 5
regulations about Health, Liability, Medical care, Welfare and Social security.
* Medical care on board ship and ashore: Seafarers should be covered for and have access to
medical care while on board; in principle at no cost and of a quality comparable to the standards of
health care on shore. Countries through which territory a ship is passing should guarantee treatment
on shore in serious cases.
* Shipowners' liability: Seafarers should be protected from the financial effects of "sickness, injury or
death occurring in connection with their employment". This includes at least 16 weeks of payment of
wages after start of sickness.
* Health and safety protection and accident prevention: A safe and hygienic environment should be
provided to seafarers both during working and resting hours and measures should be taken to take
reasonable safety measures.
* Access to shore-based welfare facilities: Port states should provide "welfare, cultural, recreational
and information facilities and services" and to provide easy access to these services. The access to
these facilities should be open to all seafarers irrespective of race, sex, religion or political opinion.
* Social security: Social security coverage should be available to seafarers (and in case it is customary
in the flag state: their relatives).
Title 5: Compliance and Enforcement: Title 5 sets standards to ensure compliance with the
convention. The title distinguishes requirements for flag states and port states.
* Flag states: Flag states (the state under which flag the ship operates) are responsible for ensuring
implementation of the rules on the ships that fly its flag. Detailed inspections result in the issue of a
"Certificate of Maritime Compliance", which should always be present (and valid) on a ship. Ships are
required to have decent complaints procedures in place for its crew and should institute
investigations in case of casualties.
* Port States: The inspection in ports depends on whether a Certificate of Maritime Compliance is
present (and thus a flag is flown of a country which has ratified the convention). If the Certificate is
present, compliance is to be assumed in principle, and further investigations only take place if the
certificate is not in order or there are indications of non-compliance. For ships that don't have the
certificate, inspections are much more detailed and should ensure -according to a "no more
favorable treatment principle"[5] that the ship has complied with the provisions of the convention.
The convention is thus -indirectly- also valid for ships of non-member countries if they plan to call to
ports of a member state.
* Labour agencies: Agencies supplying on maritime workers to ships should also be inspected to
ensure that they apply the convention (amongst others the regulations regarding to social security).
* All ships that are required to carry a radio installation shall carry the International Code of Signals

notes ----
ballast water :
The Convention requires a review to be undertaken no later than three years before the first
effective date for compliance with the performance standard set out in regulation D-2 in order to
determine whether appropriate technologies are available to achieve the standard.
The first review was conducted at MEPC 53 and the Ballast Water Review Group, established in
accordance with the provisions of regulation D-5.2, concluded that the variety of systems being
tested on board have the potential to meet the criteria of safety, environmental acceptability and
practicability and that, it is reasonable to expect ballast water management technologies and type-
approved systems will be available by October 2008.
The second review was conducted at MEPC 55 when the Committee noted that type approved
ballast water management systems would probably be available for installation prior to the first
application date of the BWM Convention. However, the Committee remained concerned regarding
the capability of all ships subject to regulation B-3.3 of the Convention to meet the D-2 standard in
2009 due to procedural and logistical problems.
Following an initiative of the Secretary-General of IMO to address this concern, the Assembly, at its
25th session, adopted resolution A.1005(25) on the Application of the International Convention for
the Control and Management of Ships Ballast Water and Sediments, 2004. The Assembly resolution
calls on States, which have not yet done so, to ratify, accept, approve or accede to the Convention as
soon as possible. In the meantime, the resolution recommends that ships built in 2009 to which
regulation B-3.3 applies, should not be required to comply with regulation D-2 until their second
annual survey, but no later than 31 December 2011. The Assembly resolution instructs MEPC to keep
this provision under review, in particular, to review, not later than at its fifty-eighth session, the
issue of a ship subject to regulation B-3.3 constructed in 2010 and the immediate availability of type-
approved technology for such a ship to meet the D-2 standard. For the text of the resolution
A.1005(25) please click here.
In the subsequent reviews MEPC 58 confirmed that ballast water treatment technologies were
currently available and more technologies would be available in the near future and MEPC 59
concluded that there were sufficient type-approved ballast water treatment technologies available
for ships, subject to regulation B-3.3, constructed in 2010 and agreed that no changes to Assembly
resolution A.1005(25) were needed.

In an insurance policy, the deductible is the amount of expenses that must be paid out of pocket
before an insurer will pay any expenses
Deductibles are typically used to deter the large number of trivial claims that a consumer can be
reasonably expected to bear the cost of.
By restricting its coverage to events that are significant enough to incur large costs, the insurance
firm expects to pay out slightly smaller amounts much less frequently, incurring much higher
savings.
As a result, insurance premiums are typically cheaper when they involve higher deductibles.
Deductible is what make insurance so profitable.

until the day before arrival at port. If vessel arrives in port with a partially filled page, master has to
sign at the end of last entry in that page.
2. The ORB part 1 should be shown to PSC ( or any authorized person) in the presence of the chief
engineer and all the questions related to the entries made, must be answered directly by him. Part 2
may be shown by master. Photocopies of the ORB may be provided to the PSC inspector, only if
requested.
3. The ORB part 1 have to be kept in the personal custody of the chief engineer and part 2 with
master(or chief officer as delegated). and they are responsible for the proper upkeep of the oil
record book.
4. Certificate and instruction manuals of the following equipment must be readily available with the
chief engineer:
15 ppm Bilge separator, oil content monitor and automatic stopping device.
ODMCS
5. Bilge and waste oil treatment system (piping, cabling and equipment) are always in good
operation, properly monitored and maintained. Maintenance and calibration records are available.
Operating instructions should be posted near the equipment and all officers authorized to operate
equipment mentioned in (4) above to be familiar with the operation of the equipments.
6. The IOPP certificate and supplement must be readily available for cross verification with the oil
record book by the PSC inspector.
7. A copy of IOPP certificate together with supplements must be available with the chief engineer for
his reference. He must go through the certificate carefully and ensure that entries especially made in
the ORB with respect to the following are correct:
Tank names and capacities written in the certificate are same as what is written in the ORB.
Actual capacity should not be more than capacity mentioned in the certificate.
Check the IOPP certificate supplement -- whether the boiler on your vessel is approved for burning
waste oil.
8. The receipts obtained after discharging waste oil or dirty water to ashore facilities must be kept in
the safe custody of chief engineer, attached to the oil record book.
9. A copy of the schematic pipeline diagram for bilge and sludge system should be displayed near
OWS and one additional copy should be available with chief engineer for reference. The same is
applicable for ODMCS which should be available with chief officer.

05.07.13 - Friday
Other Externals expected on that day was Capt. Naik but did not come so Capt. Panigrahi was called
in to replace him.Externals - Capt kapoor, capt Shukla and capt. Panda.
Before the start of the orals by capt. Panda came a warning that he expects ROR rules word to word
and any screw ups in ROR wud result in u invariably failing.
3) Now u have an injured crew member on board and u have to land him on the helicopter.how u go
abt doing that.
- Wants to hear before starting to do anything atleast establish a working channel with the
helicopter.
- Told him everything about registration as per M.S. Act but still he said u missing 1 important
point.Later explained by him only bank mortgage letter it seems is very imp for registration it
seems..newaz....
- Never being on containers he really caught me on this one and then went deep into IMDG
code.Guys atleast have a look at the IMDG code to see what it contains, cargo included, documents
required,packing,seggregation.
Wind heeling criteria. (Area under B > area under A.Basically what he wants to hear alongwith the
diagram is that Area on the positive side of the curve will be more than the area on the negative side
of the curve.)
9) Grain loading in detail. With Formulas .Intact stability criteria for grain. What if Angle of heel More
than 12.Wud u still load the grain.
- Wants to hear if angle of heel is more than 12 will load less qty of grain to reduce the total heeling
moments or use vertical separation / Securing arrangements.
10) iamsar in detail - various types of search patterns , formulaes , track spacing , how to find search
area.
13) Effects of following and quartering seas?how wud u find the vessels roll period and the wave
period.
- told him would check the time interval between 2 crests of the wave to find the wave period. He
added to it that the wave period should be averaged for multiple observations to get a more better
assumption.also the wave in the direction of the wind should be observed.take a fixed point on the
ship and then see the time interval between the crests.
- for vessels roll period i told him that ill chk the time interval for 1 complete roll.as per him its the
time taken for vsl to roll back from midship to midship.other than this it is also given in the stability
booklets.
17) Construction of tankers as per marpol.Definition of Lenght and breadth as per marpol.
Then he started off with ROR.He places 7-8 vsls around your vessel and tells u to take action.in my
case there was a sailing vsl stbd quarter , crossing vsl stbd to port , head on 1 vsl , i vsl crossing from
port bow to stbd , 1 vsl crossing from port beam to stbd.
Basically dont use the words " i will assume " he'l give u a firing for that. And also before taking any
action tell that i will take bearings check weather risk of collision exists or not.
He'l ask u to quote all the rules as per which u are taking action.be thorough in ur rules and he is
very happy. He will cross Question u a lot as u pit-pat the rules to him.
some of the points that i cud remember ordinary prctices of seamen, during safe speed do u keep
main eng on stby(wants to hear : Yes),Overtaking how u determine,what is aspect,Corresponding
aspect of the other vessel.
Asked many more general question in between but dnt remember them now.Was called in by capt.
L.K.Panda around 1300 hrs.He just asked me 2-3uestions and based on externals result passed me.
Questions asked by him : What happened y u cud not answer about IMDG code.
What all docs to be carried for dangerous cargo. If a separate Dangerous cargo manifest is issued
then is a separate B/L also issued incase goods carried by MTOG act?
Guess this wud be it guys. All the very best to all other candidates appearing for their exams.Cheers
!!!!!

travelling and also joining back within 2 days. Following are few questions asked to me, some were
asked into very deep, some were skipped very fast to another question by Capt. Deepak Kapoor, I blv
he sees ur confidence and you can never judge whether you have given him a satisfactory answer
according to him or not as he will jump to another question sometimes very quickly, which can be
only possible if u have given him that very word which he wants to hear or u may have given a wrong
answer. Even i asked him again what he has written on my exn form, though i had answered 95% of
his questions & he said that thing which made my day "Mr. Singh its very clear that its a 'P' & not 'F'
what i have written". Be prepared to wait outside sweating for whole day & most probably he may
call you again the next day, but if called again chances of ur clearing will be more.
