Solving Multimedia

Hardware Mobility
By: James Adeyanju
Stakeholders

The Stakeholders in this project include any consumers that

use television as well as any consumer that uses their
smartphone as a media device.
Research Results

During my research I have found that with the onset of

mobile phones since 2012 consumers now spend 2 hours
and 57 minutes on their phones.

This figure is higher than the 2 hours and 48 minutes people

spend on average watching t.v.
POV Statement

User: Consumers that enjoy watching television on a

consistent basis and use it now.

Need: To be flexible and t.v wherever you want regardless

of size.

Insight: Consumers are already watching less t.v than in

previous years due to mobile phones.
Problem Statement

Allow cable television to be more mobile for users.

Criteria/Requirements

Criteria- lightweight, clear picture, universal, works with

existing peripherals, cost eective

Requirements- The design shall not be longer than 8

inches. The design shall have at least 1920x1080 pixels.
The design shall have peripherals for existing additions.
The design shall work with existing service providers. The
design shall not be above $500 USD.
Design Alternatives

The design to the right could be an alternative to my

current design however it didnt meet a few of my criteria
especially in regards to size. I wanted my design to be
small and this design goes about the requirements I
specified.
Design Alternatives Cont

This design would have been my next choice for my final

design however it failed to meet one of my criteria in
regards to peripherals. Even though I had size weighed
higher than peripherals there were a few other things that
this design was lacking including resolution.
Decision Matrix Chart
Criteria Weight Design A Design B Design C
Size of the unit 0.5 5 5 1
Picture resolution 0.2 5 5 5
Number of features 0.1 4 1 3
Cost 0.1 4 1 2
Aesthetics of unit 0.1 4 3 3

Total 1 4.7 4 2.3

My decision matrix shows my 3 designs A, B, and C. I
added a weight to my criteria which I identified as most
important (size, resolution, features, cost aesthetics). I
then multiplied the scores I gave my design by the weight
of the criteria to get the scores. Design A had met the
most of my criteria.
CAD Rendering
Design Function

The CAD is intended to be used as a portable television

with hdmi and usb peripherals.

The customer will be able to watch live tv from using their

service providers credentials and a hologram will appear
from the device.
What does the design
solve?

This design solves the problem with being able to watch

cable tv without having to be in your home.

Many times if you want to watch a sporting invite or an

important event youre confined to your living room
because you don't have a device with the size and
capabilities of your television.
What does the design solve
cont
The material this device will made out of is injection
molded ABS the design is quite simple and 3D printing
may be used for early prototyping.

We expect to source the electronics from a vendor and

injection mold and assemble the rest of the parts in house
with a price point of $45 USD per unit and we will sell the
device for $99 USD.

We expect the customer to love this product. Now they can

take the same comfort of their living room on the go with
this device that allows them to watch television on the go.
Learnings

During this project I learned a great deal about how

product go from ideation to visual a prototype. It all starts
with the customer and what they require from the product
what it must do to solve their needs while also being cost
eective.
