aambaradharam=clad in white clothes; Vishnum=all pervading. Sasivarnam=with the glow of
the Moon; chaturbhujam=with four arms; prasanna vadanam=having a pleasing face;
dhyaayeth=I meditate upon; sarva vighnopasaantaye= to ward off all obstacles.
We meditate on the all pervading :Lord Ganesha,who glows cool like the Moon, has four
arms, is clad in white, and has a pleasing countenance , to ward off all obstacles.

We seek refuge in Vishwaksena, the Supreme, who removes all obstacles, and in whose court,
hundreds of elephant faced Gods serve.

worlds, who is without beginning and without end( without changes), is sure way to overcome

knowledge); sarva dharmajnam=Knower of all dharmas(duties);lokaanaam keerti

He is the cause and creator of Brahma who creates these worlds and He is the One who
propitiates the austerities and the Vedic knowledge. He is the knower of all dharmas(duties);
He is the One who increases the fame and wealth of beings according to their deeds of
merit(punya). He is the Lord of all worlds who has to be beseeched for fulfillment. He is the
greatest entity from whom all beings emerge.

Listen from me Oh! King, (with rapt attention), the thousand(s of) names of Him who is of
foremost importance in all the worlds, who is the master of all the worlds, which dispel the
fear of all sins.

For these thousand names, the Rishi is the great sage Veda
Vyaasa. The meter is anushtup and the Deity is the son of
Devaki, the Lord.

amrutaamshoodbhavo=The Lord who created the Moon; (Moon is supposed to have come from
the mind of the Lord(Chandramaa manaso jaataha chaksho sooryo ajaayata).. beejam=is the
seed.. shaktir=power is; Devaki nandanah=Devaki nandana; trisaamaa=One who is glorified by
the three types of saama veda manthras(Deva, Vratha and Prokta) hridayam=is the heart;
tasya=that(in this context it means that Ultimate); shaantyarthe=obtaining peace;
viniyujyate=used for;

The seed for this great manthra is “Amrutaamshoodbhava” the creator of the Moon(The
Lord). The power comes from (the words), Devaki Nandanah; The heart of this great
manthra is Trisaama(One who is glorified by the three types of Saama veda manthras. The
manthra is used for obtaining the Ultimate peace.

hrishikesha=(hrishika=senses+esha=lord)=Lord of senses;
padmanabha=one with the primeval lotus in His navel; amara
prabhu=Lord of Demigods; Viswakarma=One who created the

Humans; Twashta=one who disintegrates all materials into
fine particles at the time of final dissolution; sthavishta=One
who contains the entire universe within in Him and is thus the

The Lord is beyond any kind of measurement. He is the
controller of senses.He has the primeval lotus arising from His
navel. He is the Lord of all Gods. He is the architect and the
creator of the worlds. He is the lord of all Humans and is an
embodiment of Vedic mantras. He is the One who disintegrates
all material into finest particles before final dissolution.He
contains all the universes within Him and is thus the largest
Entity. He is most ancient and firmly changeless(motionless).

mind);saasvatah=eternal;Krishno=embodiment of bliss, (Lord
Krishna, One who is black in color;) Lohitaaksha=red eyed;
pratardanah=one who destroys everything at the time of final
dissolution;Prabhootas=one who has Supreme wealth and
knowledge;
Trikakubdhaama=(Tri+kakub+dhaama)=One in whom the
three worlds reside(earth, heavens and hells); pavitram=one
who is pure and purifies;One who wields the thunderbolt;
mangalam param=supremely auspicious.
Gross interpretation:
The Lord is incomprehensible by senses or mind. He is eternal.
He is an embodiment of bliss and known to us as Lord Krishna
who is dark colored; He has red streaks in the corners of His
eyes. He is the One to destroy everything at the time final
dissolution. He is the One possessing Supreme wealth and
knowledge; He resides in all the three worlds and the three
worlds reside in Him. He is pure and purifies everything. He
wields the thunderbolt. He is supremely auspicious.

within Him; One of the 8 Vasus, the Agni(Paavaka);
Vasumanaah=One with Supremely pure mind; satyah=the
Absolute Truth; samaathma=Equanimous to all;
asammitah=the Infinite; samah=One without change;
amogha=Ever useful;Pundareekaaksha=(red)lotus-eyed, One
who dwells in the hearts;Vrisha karmaa=One whose deeds
establish righteousness; Vrishaakritih=Embodiment of
righteousness.
Gross interpretation:
He exists in all beings and all beings exist in Him. He is also the Agni or fire, one of the 8
vasus called Pavaka. He has supremely pure mind and He is the Absolute Truth. He is
equanimous to all beings and is the Infinite, without change. He is ever useful and has eyes
like the red lotus petals, and He dwells in the hearts of His devotees. His deeds establish
righteousness and He is the embodiment of righteousness.

aasu=weilder;)=One with great arrows; maheebharta=Lord of
the earth;(one who lifted the earth); Sreenivasa=Abode of
Sree(Lakshmi); Sataam gatih=goal of the spiritual seekers;
Aniruddhah=One who cannot be obstructed;
Suraananda=bliss of the Demigods; Govindah=protector of
cows, earth, Vedas and speech and expression in all beings;
Govidaampatih=Lord of Vedic scholars.
Gross interpretation:
He is the weilder of great arrows and the Lord of earth who
lifted it from the waters of Deluge as the Boar incarnation. He
is the permanent abode of Goddess Lakshmi. He is the final
goal of the spiritual seekers. He has no obstructions in His
path; He is the bliss of the demigods, protector of cows, earth,
the Vedas and all kinds of speech and expression in all beings..

He is immortal and the is the seer of all(the past, present and
future). He is the destroyer of the evil and the effete.He is the
great correlator of individual and combined karma and the
regulator of the nature and natural events. He is also the
individual soul who experiences the fruits of karma. But yet
He is changeless. He has no birth and He is unassailable. He
is the ultimate ruler of all. He is known by innumerable
names.He is the destroyer of the enemies of the gods.

Gross interpretation:
Lord Vishnu is the one who turns the wheel of time, yet He is
free from all bondage and is unattached. He remains hidden
from the unenlightened and is the destroyer of the evil-minded
in the form of Rudra. He is the maker of the day in the form of
Sun and regulates time. He conveys the oblations offered to
various Gods in the form of Fire. One of His forms is air. He
bears the burden of earth and lifted the earth on His tusk in
the incarnation as the Boar(Varaha).

any means. He is supremely Unique in all respects. He is the
law maker and protector of the righteous. He is pure and
cleanses all sins. He is totally fulfilled of all desires and is

success. He is the One who shows the way to success..

Gross interpretation:
He starts the time cycles and runs the wheel of time. He is the creator of countless illusions and
swallows all the creation (and the illusions) at the time of final annihilation. He is invisible and

and endurance. He lifted the earth as the Bore-incarnation(Varaaha Avatara) and continues to

action that makes the worlds come out of the womb. He is the actual Doer and Deliverer of the
