Introduction
During the last two weeks, members in the group 48 have learned
and discussed how to define the project including defining the project
scope, creating the work breakdown structure (WBS), integrating the
WBS with the organization and coding the WBS for the information
system.
And this report is about developing a WBS for a Software solution.
This software is an online booking tickets software for flights. Customers
can book tickets through smart phone or the web.
In this report, team members all make a significant contribution
through the discussion on the Moodle. Basing on the results of discussion,
project managers collate and write this report.
In the first part of this report, a series of questions will be answered
about defining the project. And in the second part, the performance of
each team member will be evaluated due to the criteria. Finally, the
conclusion will summarize the advantages and disadvantages of our
work.

3
Project description
This is a creative project which develops a WBS for a new piece of
software to use for booking tickets. So, under our imagination, we choose
to design an online booking tickets software for flights. Customers can
book tickets through smart phone or the web.

Task 1
Defining the project scope
Our initial task is to define the project scope. Project scope is a
definition of the end of result or mission of the project. This is often in
the form of a product or service for a customer. Project scope is always
employed by a project scope checklist, including project objective,
deliverables, technical requirements, limits and exclusions in this project.
And here is the scope statement:

PROJECT OBJECTIVE
To develop a high efficient, reliable and convenient online booking
tickets software for Australian domestic flights. The project needs to
finish within four months at a cost not to exceed A$ 450000.

DELIVERABLES
1. A list of specifications
2. Software coding and a technical manual
3. Test prototypes
4. An approved booking tickets software for flight both on web and
smart phone.
5. User manual documentation

4
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. This booking ticketing software must meet all the requirements in
Apple store, Android market and website regulations
2. This booking ticketing software must include all the flights.
3. This booking ticketing software must fulfill multiple online payments.
4. This booking ticketing software must provide up-to-date and detailed
flight information.
5. This booking ticketing software must be able to store private
Information secure

LIMITS AND EXCLUSIONS

1. Flights of some airline companies would not like to join our software.
2. In this software, function of seat selection could only be possible
during stipulated time
3. The customers cannot access to internet will unavailable to this
software.
4. Only online payments are permitted in this software.
5. Tickets which have been booked must be completed payment in
limited minutes or else tickets will be got cancelled. And additional fee
may be billed when customers are willing to reschedule or cancel flights

Task 2
Creating the Work Breakdown Structure

Our next task is the most important task of all. That is the creation
of the WBS. Work breakdown structure (WBS) is a hierarchical outline
that identifies all the products and work elements involved in a project.
It defines the relationship of the final deliverable of the project to its
5
sub-deliverables, and in turn, their relationships to work packages.
Through extensive brainstorming and discussion, we finally reached
a conclusion and produced the WBS. It is shown in the figure 1.

Figure 1 WBS

Task 3
Creating the Organization Breakdown Structure

After the creation of the WBS, it is time for the team to create the
organization breakdown structure (OBS) to know how the company has
organized the distribution of work responsibility.
The OBS depicts how the firm has organized to discharge work
responsibility. And it is presented in the figure 2.

Task 4
Integrating the WBS with the Organization
After the creation of the WBS and OBS, it is time for the team to
integrate the WBS with the OBS to know how the company has
organized the distribution of work responsibility.

Task 5
Developing the work package
This is the last part of the process to develop the work package. And
the work package is the lowest level of the WBS.
According to the instruction provided we have taken only one WP
and discussed in detail. And usually the numeric identification is
commonly used and we have tracked the same scheme.
Here we have divided the U.I Development (1.2.4.1) into three
packages and taken one i.e. Graphics development (1.2.4.1.2.1) as
showed in the figure 4.

Summary
Basically, what we came to know after doing this project is, to
develop project scope, WBS, OBS and integrating WBS and OBS to
generator the cost account and work Packages (WP). It will help us to
tackle projects in the future when we will be working on projects in the
industry. It made the complex project simple to manage and made it quite
easy to handle the individual section of the project.
This discussion on the Moodle is beneficial for each member of
group 48. It is an interesting way for members to study and use of
concepts about defining the project. It helps us rid of the boring study of
concepts.
Also, as a team, we need to communicate and cooperate between
each other. On the Moodle, we can discuss peaceful and accept others
different opinions. It is quite stimulating to see new ideas which can add
more possibility.
At the same time, through specific reference and reasonable reasons,
we can convince others instead of ignoring and quarrel.
In addition, as the project managers, we need to pose questions and
manage the Moodle discussion. It improves our leading skills.
