- The queen of the Golden Bough

Support / Healing Soul / Equilibrium

This is the queen of all thing spiritual, of healing, and of transformation. If you choose the
Queen of the Golden Bough, you are calling on the help of one the true healing spirits of
faerie. You are seeking healing on a very ancient and fundamental level. You need to heal
and change may be so deeply embedded in your psyche that you may not even know it is
there.

This queen calls for the healing of world sorrow, and the sorrow that wells up inside of
you without having a specific cause that you can pinpoint. Listen to what the Queen of
Golden Bough has tell you. She asks you feel and over whelming sadness that takes you by
surprise, a sadness that seems to spring from the depths of your soul, meditating on this
card can help you rebalance your emotions. It may also be time to let go of emotions that
are stopping you from healing. These may be emotions that have a more tangible cause but
still overwhelm you at surprising times. Take a long look at how these emotions made you
you feel in the past, how you are feeling at this moment, and then let the card do its
transformational work to lead you into the future.

2.- The Queen of Bedlam

Responsibilities of Partnership / Frustation / Gift of Sanity

Who is the Queen of Bedlam? Wath is her purpose? It may not be as complicated or
extreme as it appears. She is an everyday queen. A queen of day-to-day life the keeper of
the little things that when added together become a madness of sorts. Have you ever been
doing something very ordinary, something that youve done a thousand times, when
suddenly it seems that if you do this particular thing one more time, youll go mad? It could
be as simple as packing your childrens lunch boxes, sewing a button on your partners
trousers (again), or cleaning up a mess your dog just made. These are all responsibilities of
partnership that must be dealt with over and over again. When the feeling dog Im going
mad, sweeps over you at these times, the queen of bedlam has decided to visit. She is
calmly siting in your kitchen, pulling the petals off the flowers in the vase on the table. She
is tearing your kitchen sponge into tiny pieces and cutting the sleeves off of your partners
shirts. She is doing this for you. She comes to take the feelings of total frustration, of just
not being able to continue living with any sanity at all, and envelops them in her immense
capacity to embrace everyday madness. It is her reason so existing, so give generously of
your small neuroses. Shell take care of them and leave you sane, to face another day.
3.- The Queen of the Night

Desire / Yearning / Inspiration

Behold the Queen of the Night: the embodiment of all longing. She is the endless night of
desire that never thinks of morning; but not just physical desire. She can inspire you to
write a poem, paint a picture, find a lover, all with the intensity of single focus. If you
choose to ignore her, you may be haunted by the spectre of what might have been. Youll
never know whether the fragment of poetry you had in your head would become something
complete or how the images in your mind would translate onto canvas or paper and you
may never know if the person you desire could become your one true love, but you will be
safe. If you choose to follow her, this queen will be your constant companion until you
have fulfilled your desire. Only then will you be free of her. However, her gift of
inspiration may not be what it seems. You may wake to find that the very thing you have
created with such passion has turned to dross in the light of day, the poem, mundane, the
lover a loser. Will you risk it. If you come into her presence, I suggest you draw at least one
more card to help you make sense of where she is leading you. If, for example, you draw
the prince of light, then her inspiration will most likely lead you down creatively healthy
paths. If you draw the prince of shadows then beware of what the night holds.

4.- The Queen of the Day

Grace / Beauty / Blessing

The queen of the day is a queen of blessings. She hold those blessing in the palm of her
hand, and she leaves peace, calm, and a sense of well-being as she passes. She is the
embodiment of what we sometimes call a state of grace. She is the light after darkness, the
sun and shadow of an awakening day. If you are lucky enough to draw this card, then you
are blessed. Enjoy the moment and enjoy the day. Be aware of the beauty around you, no
matter where you are or what situation you fing yourself in, for there is a beauty
everywhere if you have the eyes to see it. Stop and think about how this day, this situation
can be seen in a better light. Beauty and grace are there, but you must find them.
5.- The queen of passage

Surrender/ Transition/ Trust

All things change. All situations move from one phase into another. Sometimes those
transitions are difficult. Letting go and moving on, whether to a new life, a new love, or
perhaps just a new phase of a current relationship, can be painful, but the Queen of passage
is there to help with the keen sight of the kestrel and can see the future with the wisdom of
the raven. She holds a pomegranate, a sing of fertility. There is growth in the future. There
is a way ahead. The darkness comes as you step from one state to another. The moment of
passage between the past and future, between the world themselves, is a moment of
surrender. Trust this great queen to be your guide. Listen to what she has to tell you and
then take that step. She will by your side in the moment you move out of the past and into
the future.

13.- The Speaker of truth

Trust/ Acceptance/ Open Heart

In faerie, many of the individuals we meet can be tricky. They will tell you a lie as blithely
as tell you the truth; its in their nature. This beautiful man is the speaker of truth. Like
Thomas the rhyme, he cannot lie. When something needs to be told, when a question needs
a truthful answer, he will always speak, going to the heart of the matter and telling you
what he has found there. It may not be what you wish to hear, but it will be truthful. He can
be trusted when you need someone to trust. When the speaker of truth appears, ask him the
question you most need a truthful answer to and be willing to accept that answer. It wont
always be easy, but when he turns up, it means that somewhere within you, you are seeking
the truth. So open your heart to him as he opens his, heart to you and truly hear when he
speaks.

14.-The shape shifter

Perception/ Ilusion/ truth within

Who is this man? Well, thats the problem, really. He is everything and nothing. He can
change who and what he is to suit any situation and any relationship. In being all things to
all people, he becomes as insubstantial as smoke. If you place your trust in someone like
this, you may find yourself waking up with a stranger one day, not the person you thought
you knew at all. A relationship with a shape shifter is a frustrating experience. You will
never be able to really know who this person is, and the sad thing is, he may not know
who he is either. If you find yourself in a relationship like this, you could do worse than to
ask the speaker of truth to help you out. By doing this, you may be able to find a path into
the heart of this man and you just may be able to help him find the truth within himself.
You must ask yourself if its worth the effort, and if the answer is yes, then be strong and
courageous. Hold onto him as the shifts through his many shapes, and you may find
yourself with a true man at the end.

15.- The Elven Knight

Enchantment/ Call of Faerie/ Leadership

The Elven Knight summons us to heed the call of Faerie. This is the male energy that can
draw you deeper into the world beyond our own. Much of the energy in Faerie is female,
but there is a true balance of male energy there as well. The Elven Knight, the consort of
the queen, can rule equally in this land. Proud and powerful, he rides through this domain,
leading rhe faeries in a procession that can take them from their world into ours and back
again. The trooping of the faeries is dangerous to witness, but the lure of it is almost
irresistible, and we wish, nothing more than to follow the call of the Elven Knight deep into
his realm. The danger is that, one we have followed in the wake of the troop we will not
want, or even be able, to return to our own world, and will instead be lost forever in the
land of faerie.

What does it mean if the Elven Knight is drawn in a reading? If the card is alone, we must
be aware of what our heart is yearning for, is it something we can have? Is it a hopeless
yearning for something unattainable or something unwise for us to pursue? If the knight is
draw as a companion to other cards then it can be interpreted as a driving force in our life, a
need to accomplish something difficult but possible. The energy of the Elven Knight is a
powerful motivator to go forward, leading the way and taking others with us on our path.

18.- The thief

Excuses/ inaction/ lessons to learn

A thief of time, a thief of energy; this being steals the things that you thought were under
your control. How often have you put off doing something because you say to yourself, It
can wait. Ive got plenty of time to do that. You know you need to address certain
problems fix certain aspects of a relationship but just never get around to doing it. You
dont have the energy to face a confrontation or even to make the effort of being with
someone who needs your support. When you finally decide to do something about it, you
find its too late; the moment has passed, sometimes for good. The thief has stolen your
time and energy. The thief has another purpose as well. He can be a thief of love. He can
steal away the love you thought you had for another. Have you ever woken to find that you
simply dont love the person you thought you were in love with? This awakening can be a
blessing for it is a seeing of a truth you many not have been aware of. It puts a relationship
in perspective and helps you to clarify your feelings. It can be painful but it can also be
liberating. That is your choice. If you are lucky enough to catch the thief in a generous
mood, take back your time and energy from him and if he gives it back to you use it wisely.
He steals to teach it is up to you to learn.

30.- The green woman

Subtlery/ Beauty/ Fruition

Just as there is a balance of masculine and feminine energy in all of us, there is that same
balance of energy in all of nature. The green woman is the subtle greening of the world, the
gentle flow of energy, creativity, inner strength, full of moisture and the nurturing qualities
of plant life, she cradles us in her strong arms and soothes us with the healing energy of all
that is beautiful, rather than awesome, in nature. When you observe the delicate ivy
surrounding an ancient oak tree, when you smell a flower and marvel at the beauty of its
form and color, you honor the strength and the subtlety of the green woman. When she
appears before you in a reading, let her powerful, gentle energy surround and nurture you.
A relationship calls for gentle greening sometimes. Tread softly and gently to bring a
relationship to fruition in its tentative stages. Be strong in your convictions, but gentle in
the manner in which you present them, and you emulate the green woman.

48.- prick up your ears

jumping to conclusions/ listening with clarity/ appropriate meaning

Look at this lovely long eared faerie, shes literally all ears. It is very easy to listen without
really hearing and to hear without really understanding. Often things are said that are
perceived as hurtful or critical, when perhaps listening more carefully or in a different way
would have informed you that wasnt the intention al all. Rabbits and hares have very
sensitive hearing. They jump and start any unfamiliar noise, running for safety before they
see what made the noise in the first place. They literally jump to conclusions before getting
the full picture. Now in a rabbits case this is probably wise, since hanging around can often
lead to a very short life, but as a human, it is important to take the time to really prick up
your ears and listen to what is being said, and not only to what is being said, but to what it
actually means. You may be surprised at how often a meaning is quite different from what
you first supposed.

49.- Oh No

Just one of those days/ obstructions/ the unexpected

Look at him. Hes been waiting a log time to be picked, hes so eager to do his job, and its
easy to see what that job is. You guessed it. Its making sure that things arent going to go
the way you want them to go. You break your favorite cup and superglue, your hand to it
while trying to stick the handle back on; you burn the toast and remember that it was the
last of the bread that you were supposed to be using for a sandwich for lunch; your dog
chews up what looks like an important, letter from the tax man but might, have been a
notification of a huge lottery win. So what to do? You can go back to bed a really tempting
idea, but remember that your cat or dog has already taken the warm spot you vacated and
isnt going to give it up easily. Or you can just accept that sometimes life isnt what you
expect and certainly not what you think it should be. When Oh No turns up, be
philosophical about it. Its just going to be one of those days; all you can do is go with it
and try to keep your sense of humor.

54.- The leaving

Moving forward/ order/ directions

Everything you do, every new endeavor, means leaving something behind. This can be a
place, a person, or even a state of mind. You cant move forward without leaving some of
what you were behind you. This is growth. It is important to acknowledge the leaving of
things as you begin your journey. When you leave your house to go on a journey, be it long
or short, it is a normal thing to tidy up a bit before going. Putting things in their proper
places, making sure that the plants are watered and the dishes are washed, is a way of
ordering your mind an preparing it to go on to the next step. When you journey
psychologically, spiritually, or metaphysically, you will also do well to leave your thoughts
in order before you depart on that first step. Just as you would not venture into unknown
territory without a map, you would be wise to ask for directions before you leave. In a
reading this may mean taking another card to guide you on those first steps.

63.-The dreaming

Creative thoughts/ Imagination/ permission to dream

How empty life would be if we couldnt dream. I dont mean just nighttime dreams,
although they are important. I mean waking dreams. Imagination. Creative thought. That
sort of dreaming makes us who we are. Faerie itself is a world approached by our dreams,
seen with our inner eyes, and felt with our inner eyes, and felt with our hearts. In our
dreams we can be free to explore the other realms and get to know the being we meet there.
We touch Faerie with our dreams. The dreaming is a gift for you, to remind you to dream,
to be creative. No one is going to judge your dreams. Dont be afraid to imagine what you
wish for. By giving your wishes and need a voice in your dreaming, you can help to bring
them into the human world as well. Dream it first and see what happens. Of course, if
dreaming has consequences, then perhaps it would be a good idea not to dream of a huge
monster coming to eat your neighbor, though if this card is drawn with the faerie of
naughtiness, then feel free to indulge in a few small wicked thoughts.

64,. The gift

Wisdom/ gracious acceptance/ Recognition

We think of faerie gifts as perhaps not being what they seem. The three wishes you were
given are a trick and burden, the charming prince becomes a demon lover. Sometimes
however, a gift of faerie is a true gift, given freely and with good intent. And what will this
gift be? What it will most likely be is wisdom. The gift of wisdom comes from journeying
long within the realm of faerie.

Looking, listening, and being aware of the energies that surround you, prepare you for the
gift of wisdom. That is what this masked figure holds out to you. An egg containing all of
the wisdom you have acquired throughout you travels in faerie. This is a serious gift. She is
not a capricious sprite but a grave and majestic figure. If you are willing to acknowledge
the journey you have taken and the lessons you have learned, then accept her gift, freely
given and richly deserved.
If you draw the gift you may wonder what significance it holds for you, especially if you
are just beginning you journey into the realm of faerie. Dont worry. Think of all of the
steps you have already taken to get you to this space you are in right now. Right here. You
are already wiser and more learned than you can imagine. Take that wisdom from her,
receive it gratefully and carry it with you as you travel on.
