Parameters that define accuracy in micro-EDM

The parameters, their level for this study & experimental conditions are listed below:

Conclusions:
The diameter accuracy, roundness and re-solidified material around the hole all together
represent the quality of a drilled hole.
The increase of ignition voltage results in reduction of the re-solidified material area while using
negative electrode polarity & the positive polarity has the opposite effect.
In case of negative electrode polarity, the lowest pulse duration & the highest ignition voltage ,
the best quality of hole can be achieved. But pulse duration which is greater than 1s
dramatically reduces the quality of the hole.

With negative polarity in the range of high ignition voltage (120V) and pulse duration lower than
1s, the optimum technology for erosion of SiSiC is found. There was actually a minimal
difference between drilling and shaping parameters of SiSiC.
For quality & speed erosion of SiC & SiSiC, the optimum condition is negative polarity, low
pulse duration & high ignition voltage.
