DEFINATION:
Differentiation is an operation that allows us to find a function
that outputs the rate of change of one variable with respect to
another variable.
DIFFERENTIABILITY TEST:
Let f(x) be any real valued function, and let a be a value of x at
which f(x) is defined. We will define a
new function (x) by
()()
(x) =
()()
(a)=lim
||
lim =lim =-1
0 0
||
lim =lim =1
0 0
The left limit does not equal the right limit, and therefore the
limit of the difference quotient of f(x) = | |
at x = 0 does not exist. Thus the absolute value function is not
differentiable at x = 0.
