This was a very hard assignment for several reasons:
1. I had to think really hard to find the time in my day for teaching science consistently. 2. I needed to have a deep understanding of the science concept before teaching it because I did not want to cause any misconceptions. 3. I am teaching science this way for the first time so I am still trying to understand the 5 Es and I am still looking for resources. 4. I had no one to collaborate with. 5. There are very few lessons for pre-k and special needs. Although this was a very hard assignment, I learned so much from it: 1. Now I know how to create a lesson with the 5 Es. 2. I found some good resources to go to when needed, such as, sesame street/STEM and Brainpopjr. 3. My students fully enjoyed all the activities and explorations. I learned not to think of science as a segment and use science words only during the lesson. I started using words, such as, force and motion during our routine activities. For example, put more force on the faucet to make it work, your car went a long distance when you pushed it harder. I realized during this unit that there are many basic skills that I need to teach my students because they did not know them, such as, drawing, making comparison, or recognizing numbers. I need to have visuals ready for my students to support their learning. Now that I have done this lesson, I know which visuals to have ready for this lesson next time.
