AIM:
Our projects aim is to display a image by using
LED'S

PURPOSE:
The main purpose of ower project displaying
information are data in different ways using LED
lights

Examples
Now a day's in railway station are using the LED
Lights to display the Train Names as show below

LED LIGHT
Led lights are available in different colors
which emmits red,white,green,blue,etc.
Explanation of LED Light
LEDs at their basic level are a lattice work of Si
(silicon). The
nature of
this atom when
combined
with other Si
atoms is to
form a network of non-
charged bonds between
themselves. This
non- charged state
makes pure Si non-
conductive
meaning it will not carry an electrical current.
Scientists have found a way to allow just a little
amount of energy to pass through the lattice of Si
by replacing a minimal amount of Si with other
materials and arranging them in a way that the
energy flow is controlled.

of different materials that does this and as a result

light is emitted. As electricity passes through these
materials the electrons in the compound become
excited and emit photons of light. The materials
used in the lattice work can control the different
colors and intensities of the light emitted.

Merits
The main reason LED lights are being used is
the fact that they are cheaper to buy as well as
maintain.
On average a LED sign or board will use up to
80% less electrical energy than a conventional
light bulb.
Besidesthe energy saving properties of the LED
lights and boards are also cheaper to purchase.
Another major benefit of the LED lights is their
flexibility properties whereby the LED light can
be shaped to fit practically any shape.
The replacement lights are also very cheap and
will last several years since the power source is
regulated thus providing protection from power
surges.

Theory

Most outdoor LED displays and some indoor

LED displays are built around individually-
mounted LEDs. A cluster of red, green and blue
diodes is driven together to form a full-colour
display.

Working of a dot-matrix display
LEDs are to be turned on to display the English
alphabet A. The seven rows and five columns of
the array are controlled through a
microcontroller.
You must have noticed that across each row one
pin is sourcing the current for only one LED at a
time, but a column pin may have to sink the
currents from more than one LED. For example,
column C1 should be able to sink the current
from six LEDs while displaying alphabet A. A
microcontroller has low sourcing as well as
sinking capabilities.
To obviate this limitation, external transistor
arrays or buffers are used. In this project, pnp
transistor BC558 (T1-T8) has been used for this
purpose. In the circuit an 88 dot-matrix has
been used.
Software
The source program for the display of EFY
INDIA is written in Assembly language and compiled
using Keil Vision4 compiler. The generated hex
code is burnt into the microcontroller using a
suitable programmer.
