Exercise 3

There are several possibilities to design a configuration for a

terminal:

1) Start from scratch

2) Insert an example configuration and adapt it to users needs
(insert a template)
3) Upload the configuration from a terminal
(only for terminal versions >=2.3)

Exercise 3

Insert a template
1) Open your project from CAP 540, insert a new terminal REL 511
*2.3 in line_bay, start CAP 531.
2) Insert the template TRAINING
3) Communicate with the terminal and run Upload Options
4) You will get an error list
5) By double clicking on each error of the list and fix the error.
After you have fixed one error, run Make / Update version
(this will refresh the error list).
6) When the error list is empty you can continue, otherwise go
back to step 5)
7) Run Function Selector / Uploaded Data
8) You will get an error list, this time related to I/O cards.
9) Fix the errors by double clicking on each one. After you have
fixed one error, run Make / Update version (this will refresh

the error list).

Exercise 3

11) Compile your configuration

12) The compiler might generate an error list. Fix the errors as
before. Run compile again until no error list will be generated.
13) Download your configuration

UPLOAD OPTIONS and ERROR LIST

Upload options generated an error list.

Some functions included in the template you have inserted ARE NOT
installed in the terminal or are different:
TRIP function used in the template was single phase:

In the terminal it is three phase:

By double-clicking on the function block you had
the possibility to REPLACE
it with the three
phase function block:

This could create problems in the configuration and you have to take

care about the signals that maybe were used in the original template.

Impedance protections had single phase signals. Since the terminal has
three phase trip, also impedance protections are missing the single
phase information.

ZM function used in the template was single phase:

TEF function used in the template was not included in the terminal.

- You had to delete it from the work sheet.

- This can create problems in the configuration and you have to take
care about the signals that maybe were used in the original template.
For instance in this case:

- Trip from TEF cannot be issued anymore

- Directional signal used to send PERMISSIVE carrier for
communication scheme is not available anymore (such
scheme cannot be performed by the new terminal).

FUNCTION SELECTOR / UPLOADED DATA

Function selector / uploaded data generated an error list.

In the template one BIO card was foreseen, but in the terminal
one BIM and one BOM are installed.

FUNCTION SELECTOR / UPLOADED DATA

- You had to delete the BIO function block and replace it with the
BIO and BOM.

- Signals previously connected to the binary inputs of the BIO card

have to be connected to the binary inputs of the BIM.
Signals previously connected to the binary outputs of the BIO
card have to be connected to the binary inputs of the BOM.

function blocks.

COMPILE
The command compile generated an error list.
When you have fixed all the errors related to UPLOAD OPTIONS and
FUNCTION SELECTOR you have fixed all the errors related to
functions and cards which are not present or are different in your
configuration.
Errors detected by the compiler are configuration errors I.e. inputs in
function blocks not connected to any signal, variables not
defined because they had origin from function blocks which have
been deleted etc.

When the compiler detects several errors, it cannot continue the

compilation work and interrupts it, thats why when you have
fixed some errors and compile again some other errors will
appear.

When the compilation is succesfull, you can download the

configuration into the terminal.

IMPORTANT!

EXAMPLE CONFIGURATION

Together with CAP 540 you get a set of Example Configurations for
all REx 5xx terminals, in form of templates.
The configurations contain all the functions which can be
included in the terminal, and mainly it is easy to adapt an example
configuration from ABB Automation Products to your terminal,
because you have to delete some functions and not add them.
The job to carry out is the same as the previous exercise.

When in your company you have built-up a library of configurations,

the engineering job will be always easier and easier, because you
will always be able to create a new configuration by using a
similar one used for another customer.

YOU CAN ALSO GENERATE TEMPLATES!

IS EVERYTHING CLEAR?

Repeat the exercise 3.

Delete REL 511 *2.3 terminal 3, insert it again.
This procedure is very important. The first time you maybe have
not got all the points, now after your first attempts and the
explanations you MUST be able to successfully carry the
exercise.

When you have downloaded the configuration:
