 About Us
BIM Academy was co-founded by Northumbria University and Ryder Architecture
in 2010 with the vision of creating an international centre of excellence for Building
Information Modelling (BIM), through the complementary activities of research,
education and consultancy.
Both organisations are leaders in the field and recognise the benefits which can be
delivered to industry through independent evidence-based innovation, research
and learning, ultimately leading to enhanced business value and growth.

Our Mission
We help transform our clients business in the built environment through
the intelligent application of digital modelling, coordinated data systems and
collaborative working practice. Our independent research-based expertise is
combined with practical experience from industry to deliver real value throughout
the project lifecycle. From briefing through construction and into operation, our
approach works for projects, regardless of type or size.
Our award-winning team has extensive experience from a diverse range of
commissions in the UK, Middle East, Far East and Australasia for industry and
government clients and academic partners.

With over 25 years practical experi-
ence in architecture and construction,
including BIM implementation for Ryder
on projects since 2005, Peter leads BIM
Academys consultancy service offering.
John has 40 years industry experience
as client, consultant, contractor and
sub contractor. A founder member of
HM Government BIM Steering Group
and former leader of the BIM strategy,
investment and implementation pro-
gramme for Manchester City Council.

Mark Stodgell Technical Director Graham Kelly Senior Project Manager

Mark leads client strategy development
and technical delivery of projects for
BIM Academy. Having studied Architec-
ture at the University of Wales, Mark
has 20 years of experience in IT and BIM
systems in the design and construction
sector.
Graham examines how BIM can be used
for the operational phase of buildings,
and the challenges involved. He is cur-
rently working in a consultancy role
developing how BIM can improve the
effective utilisation of buildings including
the Sydney Opera House.

Professor Steve Lockley Professor David Greenwood

Steve has completed EU research pro-
grammes; has recently worked in in-
dustry as R&D director of RIBA; has op-
erated as a consultant to industry and
government bodies; and has published
extensively on building and informa-
tion modelling over the last 25 years.
As Professor of Construction Manage-
ment, David specialises in construction
contracts and procurement, inter-
organisational relations and project risk
management, with particular focus on
how BIM can improve best practice.

We were impressed by their innovation and creative thinking and the use of multidisciplinary
working. BIM Academy is strong and of its moment with the BIM agenda.
