The Netherlands is constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands

An area of Netherland is 41,526 km2 and has more than 16.5 million
inhabitants.
The European area of the Netherlands lies between latitudes 50 and 54 N, and
longitudes 3 and 8 E it has very important geographical position because of
its border to the sea.
Thanks to its 450 km bordered by the North Sea along the north and west, the
country had the opportunity to develop maritime trade. Other Dutch border
stretch to the east where the border with Germany is 568 kilometre long, and to
the south where border with Belgium is 449 kilometres long.
The Netherlands is geographically very low country and over 26% of its territory
is below sea level while only 50% of the country's territory is approximately one
meter above sea level.
The estuaries of large European rivers formed most of the country: the Rhine,
the Meuse and the Scheldt and their tributaries. The south-western part of the
Netherlands is to this day a river delta of these three rivers, the Rhine-Meuse-
Scheldt delta.
The capital of the Netherlands is Amsterdam but Den Haag, which is almost
uninterrupted seat of the government and the monarch since the sixteenth
century.

Politically

Kingdom of the Netherlands is a country consisting of the Netherlands, the


territory in Western Europe and the Caribbean territory of Bonaire, Saba and
Sint Eustatius (belonging to the Netherlands), and of the countries of Aruba,
Curaao and Sint Maarten. Although all four countries of the Kingdom are equal
parts of the territory of the Kingdom, the political status is somewhat different.
The European part is divided into twelve provinces while the Caribbean islands
are considered special municipalities where any of them directly managed by the
state government.
The Netherlands is a constitutional monarchy and has parliamentary democracy.
In the political history of the state important amendments to the Constitution of
1848. which among other things puts an end to power of the King, introduced
the royal inviolability and ministerial responsibility for political decisions, and
the parliament gets much greater impact, while its important to mention that
universals suffrage was introduced in 1919.
The head of state since 2013., after the abdication of Queen Beatrix, Willem-
Alexander was crowned as a King and formed the government of the Netherland
along the Ministry. Chairman of Ministers is Prime minister who is currently
Mark Rutte.
The most important advisory body of the government, the National Council
together with Parliament shares legislative power. Parliament Staten-Generaal
and consists of two chambers: Eerste Kamer which is first chamber and the
House of Lords and the Tweede Kamer which is second chamber lower house of
the Parlament.
Judicial power is chosen by the monarchy whose position is held for life. Current
judge for law and criminal law is Hoge Raad der Nederlanden, while the
administrative law is the highest court Raad van State.

The political system can be divided into three blocks: Democrats, the Social-
democratic and Liberal democratic.
Due to the multi-party system and the large number of parties there has never
been any party, which had an absolute majority in Parliament, and it hasnt
changed since the 18th century

From the international perspective, the Netherlands is known for its liberal
politics in the field of drugs, prostitution, euthanasia and same-sex marriage.

The Netherlands is one of the founders of the European Union, NATO and the
World Trade Organization.
Together with Belgium and Luxembourg constitutes Benelux. Den Haag plays a
major international role in the field of justice as a location for international
tribunals and the home of Europol.
