Problem 1 (20%) Two bar truss: long hand solutions
For the 2-bar truss shown below,
(a) Find the displacement at node 3 by finite element method use
long hand solution. Try several large values of A1 and report
the largest A1 you can get a solution.
(b) Solve the problem by treating element 1 as a rigid element use
MPC.
(c) Validate the nodal displacement by the formula given in the

(b) Find analytical form of the shape function along the
