PARTS OF SPEECH

There are 8 parts of speech.They are

Noun : It is a naming word.It is the name of a


person,place,thing,river,sea,ocean,process,continent,book,animal,etc. Its favourite place in a
sentence is the first place.

Ex: Ravi,book,Hyderabad,table,Tommy,The Pacific,The Asia,The Ganges,The Krishna,The


Ramayana,The Khoran,The Bible,evaporation,cat,dog,etc.

Common suffixes of nouns: --ness (clenliness,cleverness,laziness)

--ment (improvement,environment,development,contement)

--tion (evaporation,combustion,consumption,violation,depletion)

--ion (fusion,union)

--hood(childhood,neighbourhood,brotherhood)

--dom(kingdom,dukedom,freedom)

--er (teacher,preacher,carpenter,lawyer)

--or(doctor,conductor,governor,collector)

--ist (activist,geologist,biologist,ecologist,dentist,scientist)

--ian(musician,magician,electrician,physician)

PRONOUN :It is a word which is used instead of a noun. Its favourite place in a sentence is the
first place.

ADJECTIVE : It qualifies a noun or a pronoun.Generally,it comes before a noun .

Ex : clean,tidy,neat,nice,clever,intelligent,wise,foolish,able,strong,weak,hard,difficult,easy

Circular,round,elliptical

VERB: It is a word which refers to an action or a state .Its favourite place is immediately after a
noun or a pronoun.

Ex: give,gave,given,giving,gives

Has,have,had,having(have forms)

Do,does,did,done,doing(do forms)

Cancould,willwould,maymight,shallshould,must,ought(modal
auxiliaries)

ADVERB: It qualifies an adjective or a verb or another adverb.

ex: successfully,cleverly,wisely,foolishly

CONJUNCTION: It is used to join two or more words or phrases or clauses.

PREPOSITION : It shows a nouns or a pronouns relatioship with some other word in the
sentence.Its favourite place is before a noun or a pronoun.
Ex: in,into,on,onto,up,upto,till,until,before,after,since,for,along,along
with,according to,owning to,inspite of,despite,with,without,by,at,from,of,off,out
of,across,above,below,over,through,etc.

INTERJECTION : It is a word which is iused to express a sudden or a strong feeling.

Ex: Ah!Alas!Hurrah!Oh!Oops!My God!Ouch!Hist!
