ROLE OF MEDIA IN A FREE NATION

Kenyans are once again heading to the elections. The electoral governance tools
borrowed from the west and Africa have yielded greater exclusion of citizens.

Political mobilization along ethnic lines results tyranny by those either in power or out
of

power. It takes organized groups, visibility and money for the centre to respond to the
periphery.

Therefore, the media must come out in 2017, fighting against tyranny whenever it raises
its ugly

head.

In 2012/2013, the media spearheaded prayers for peace, but ignored to expose Kenyans
to the use of reason in electoral processes. The result is that the country was split down in
the middle between the hash-tag wearisome and we are not one.

The government has been pushing several Media Bills that seek to impose strict control
on radio and TV broadcast and fines against journalist and media houses that violate the
governments set code of conduct.

The countrys 53rd anniversary of independence has presented great challenge to the
media due to the mind type of reporting short after the March 4th 2013 election and the
unfortunate incident of the Westgate terror attack.

In both cases, Kenyans were subjected to static images and MPs are keen to formalize
these very acts of disinformation. In a world driven by reason, Kenyans, and by extension
Africans, will realize they need a free press to drive state unification, authority and
political equality.
A unified state protects individual rights, safeguards its citizens and its authority drives
political equality, unlike a disunited and captured state.

The media has demonstrated that organized groups can fend off onslaughts from the
tyranny of numbers. Individuals should emulate the media and organize to pen Kenya for
all Kenyans. A divided Kenya will have a difficult time navigating the rough global see
as present by competing interest from East and the West. Division will re-enact the lives
of the countrys ancestors who had to surrender to outsiders in order to survive tyranny
from their own leaders.

The media should be in the frontline as we head to August 2017 to drive the voice of
reason amidst emotions and bigotry. The Kenya Broadcasting Corporation should be
subjected to the independence enjoyed by other public commissions so as to rely less on
advertisement revenue in exchange for objective news coverage. It must borrow a live
from the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and the South African Broadcasting
Corporation (SAB).

CLINTON

ROAD TO TRUMP PRESIDENTIAL VICTORY

Two days to a united presidential election Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton packed
their schedules with last minute campaign with the latest measure campaign and NBC/

Washington post tracker giving Clinton a 5% point 48/43 lead on polls. The final 48 hour

programmes of both campaign suggested that the race is closer than either side admits.

Miss Clinton banking on star power to lock her narrow poll lead was hosting back to back
weekend pop concerts with Beyonce, Ketty Perry and also booked a date with President

Barak Obama.

For his part, Mr. Trump embarked on a cross country odyssey through Lowa,
Minnessota, Michigan, Pennsylevenia, Virginia, Florida, N.Carolina and New
Hampshire. In the latest sign of mounting tension and ugly mood, Mr. Trump was briefly
hustled offstage in Rino Nevada, on Saturday, on a false gun scare.

The unrest broke out when a protestor tried to hold a republican against Trump sign,
was wrestled on the ground. Mr. Trump was unruffled although the secret service agents
said they found no weapon. His son retweeted that it was an assassination attempt.

Ms Clinton camp mocked the 70 years tycoons scattershot approach to the electoral map

as a sign of panic.

At his campaign stops, the billionaire remained triumphalist. In the great state of

Colorado, Trump was sure he is winning. In three days we are going to win, the

billionaire remained triumphalist. We are going to win back the white house, he

promised.

He urged voters to cast ballots in person to avoid the risk of fraud in postal voting. Mr.

Trump hit his key themes promises. He promised to tear up free trade, expel

Undocumented migrants rebuild an allegedly depleted US military and purge Washington

Of corruption.

Miss Clinton late decision to head to Michigan with president Obama and add a midnight

rally in North Carolina as Election Day begun raised eyebrows. This was however
dismissed by campaign manager Robby Mook, of her trying to shore up her crumbling

northern firewall.

If we win Pennsylvania and Florida Donald Trump has no path, said Mr. Mook.
