    Mill speed is expressed as a percentage of critical speed, which is the speed at which centrifugal force causes all media to stick to the mill wall preventing grinding. Normal operating speed is about 75% of critical speed, as critical speed represents 100% where no grinding occurs and maximum speed operates around 75% of critical speed for optimal grinding.
