Frame/Cylinder Data
Cylinders and frames can be chosen and configured from the Frame/Cylinder data screen. Frames are chosen by
double clicking on the frame graphic and then choosing a frame from the list. Cylinders are chosen by right clicking
on the cylinder.

Frame Information

Double click on the frame box to choose a frame for the application or to change the current frame. Once a frame is
chosen, the frame box contains information on that frame. Please refer to the "Frame Data" topic for information on
frame selection and customization.

Cylinder Information

Right click on the cylinder box to choose a cylinder or to change the current cylinder. Once a cylinder is chosen, the
cylinder box contains information on that cylinder. Please refer to the "Basic Cylinder Configuration" topic for
information on cylinder selection and customization.

Clearance Pocket Information

Double click on the unloader box to choose a clearance pocket or to change the current clearance pocket. Once a
clearance pocket is chosen, the clearance pocket box contains information on that clearance pocket. Please refer to
the "Basic Cylinder Configuration" topic for information on clearance pocket selection and customization.

Driver Information Box

This box allows you to enter basic information about your compressor driver, such as type, Manufacturer, BHP,
RPM, etc. This information will be displayed on the print out and used in the compressor sizing calculations. Note

that a driver information table can be built for quick access to commonly used drivers, please refer to the "Driver
Selection" topic for more information. To access the driver selection table, double click anywhere inside of the
driver information box.

Auto Select

Auto Cylinder Select

The Auto Cylinder Selection box automatically selects cylinders based upon a typical cylinders per stage layout using
the number of availalbe throws and number of stages. The auto select process and will attempt to pick cylinders
based on balanced compression ratios and the required flow, while at the same time attempting to keep all cylinders
within the published limits of speed, working pressure, and side by side clearance. The program will keep cylinders
assigned to the same stage on the same side of the frame.

Note on tandem cylinders - the standard arrangement for tandem cylinders is for the low pressure cylinder to be
inboard (CE) and the high pressure cylinder to be outboard (HE). The auto cylinder selection allows the user to
reverse this by unchecking the "High Press (Outbrd)" box. This option is only valid where "SP" tandem cylinders are
being used (1-1/8" rod machines) or where custom cylinders are being used.

Weight Balance

Frame/Cylinder Data Tab Page 3 of 3

The Ariel 7.X performance program will attempt to weight balance opposing throws to within allowable levels.
Should a unit be configured such that opposing pairs of cylinders cannot be balanced, the program will flag this as an
error on the performance run.

The user has the opportunity of manually setting the weight balance of the unit using the same window. When
manually balancing, the "Auto" check boxes for the appropriate throws and components should be cleared. Once
cleared the user can then pick the desired crossheads and/or balance nuts from the drop down lists in the appropriate
cells. In addition, custom weights can also be typed in the appropriate cells. To allow the program to rebalance the
machine, recheck the "Auto Balance" box and click the balance button.

Use Available Parts - if the user is trying to balance a unit from parts they have on hand, these parts can be entered
into the program and then the program will try to balance the unit using only these on hand parts. First, use the
"Setup Parts" box to enter the weights of the on hand parts into the program. Then, check the "Use Available Parts"
box and press the "Balance" button to run the balance routine.
