For this project, you and your group will demonstrate your knowledge of the basic parent
functions and their transformations with a focus on the linear and quadratic function families as
well as the use of restricted domains and range through your own artistic piece.
Project Activity: Create a picture using parent functions and their transformations:
1. On a sheet of graph paper (must be turned in), draw x- and y-axes that fill the entire page.
2. Number these axes.
3. Draw a face on these axes, using ONLY straight lines and curves that look like your parent
graphs. Make it interesting!
4. Use at least seven different basic graphs from the class list (you may use more). Using other
equations is also permitted, but these do not count toward the seven needed from the list
above.
5. Use transformations for at least 90 percent of your equations.
6. Use restricted domains (piecewise functions) for at least 80 percent of your equations.
7. You must have a minimum of 15 equations.
8. Use at least one inequality.
9. On a separate sheet of paper, write the equation for each expression or feature that appears in
your face project.
10. Be sure to identify the part of the face represented by that line.
11. State the domain & range of each line. Use interval notation.
12. Your equations must be in point slope and slope intercept form for lines, standard form or
vertex form for parabolas.
13. Projects will be graded on originality, creativity, and attractiveness. Neatness counts!

Who Are You Calling Math Face? Algebra II, Desmos Function Transformation Project
y = logx logarithmic
y = sinx sine curve
y = tanx tangent curve
Inequalities
y 2x + 1 will shade below the line
2x 1 y 2x + 1 will shade between two lines
Restricted domains
2x + 1 {3 < x < 2} will graph a line segment between two x values
2x + 1 {x > 5} will graph a ray

Check Points:
1) Tuesday, Sep 19 Finalize and share image or idea that you plan to create using
functions on Google Classroom using the link on the website. List any
questions that may be helpful in working on this project. Start writing
down equation, function name, domain and range for each feature.
2) Tuesday, Sep 26 Share Desmos image and graph paper art in progress. Ask any
questions that may be helpful in working on this project.
Share equations, function name, domain and range for each feature (in
progress)
3) Thursday, Sep 28 Share final Desmos image and graph paper art. Ask any questions that
may be helpful in completing this project.
4) Tuesday, Oct 3 Turn in rubric, completed graph, table of equations, function name,
domain and range for each feature and a print out of the Desmos
image with equations all stapled together.
