CURRICULUM EXPECTATIONS:
D1. Creating and Presenting: apply the creative process (see pages 1922) to produce a
variety of two- and three-dimensional art works, using elements, principles, and
techniques of visual arts to communicate feelings, ideas, and understandings
Elements of Design Colour: mixing of primary colours (red, yellow, blue); identification
of warm (e.g., red, orange) and cool (e.g., blue, green) colours
SPECIFIC EXPECTATIONS:
D1.1 Create two- and three-dimensional works of art that express feelings and ideas
inspired by personal experiences
D1.2 Demonstrate an understanding of composition, using principles of design to create
narrative art works or art works on a theme or topic

LESSON SEQUENCE

Activity 1
Ask the students what colours they think of when it is cold outside.
Why do they think that these are cold colours?
Cool colours:
Blue
Green
purple

The water/colour experiment is a visual aid so that students can see what is happening as the
colours mix.
Blake and Colten could fill out only two of the sections.
D) CULMINATING ACTIVITY:

On a blank piece of paper have students create another picture with all of the colours.
Have them try mixing their own colours to see what colours they can make.
