Chapter: 1
Introduction

1.1. Introduction:
In Reading habit we get two words reading and habits. Reading is an action of a
person who reads and habits is a product of this action or learning. Like all other habits,
the habits or reading in an individual develops during the course of time. Smith and
Robinson defined Reading as an active attempt on the part of reader to understand
writers message . Devarajan defines reading as an art of interpreting printed and
written works. Nowadays, a common allegation is raised that the reading habits is
decreasing. It is true that if we go to the reading room of a library, we find most of the
seats are dusty. It is really a matter of concern. So, I made a plan to study the reading
habits of the library and information science students. The purpose of the study is to the
reading babies of the library and information science student.
Reading is a precise process. It involves exact, detailed, sequential perception and
identification of letters, words, spelling patterns and large language units. More simply
stated, reading is a psycholinguistic guessing game. It involves an interaction between
thoughts and language. Efficient reading does not result from precise perception and
identification of all elements, but from skill in selecting the fewest, most productive cues
necessary to produce guesses which are right the first time. The ability to anticipate that
which has not been seen, of course, is vital in reading, just as the ability to anticipate.
What has not yet been heard is betel in listening. Today, the reading has social, academic,
economical and survival significance, because democracy of a country can survive when
people at large have reading competence. Reading is always a means to an end and not
an end in itself. Further, reading is the process of using over eyes our mind to
understand the literal as well as the hidden meaning of what the writer was attempting to
convey. Therefore, reading gives both power, and pleasure with understanding, by
reading the material as a unfired whole, by which one can expand the frontiers of
knowledge and scholarship.
There are different modes of reading viz. Comprehension, Interpretation, Criticism and
Reflexive reading. There are different methods of reading as well. The prominent ones
are method of Speed Reading, Sustained silent reading and slow reading. Habit is a
tendency or inclination towards an action or condition, which by reading becomes easy.
Spontaneous, or even unconscious, or an action/regular series of action, or a condition so
included. Reading Habit is a psychological aspect. It is developed during a course of
time as a part of personality of an individual. Reading Habit is the only enjoyment in
which there is alloy and it never lasts, even when all other pleasures fade out. Every
library professional must know the reading habits of its users. Reading habit has been an
area of active interest among the library professionals.

1.2. Need of present study:

In the present time, it is hard that most of the youth of today is not seriously
interested in reading books. Actually they don't have the time and patience to read.
They would rather prefer to waste their valuable time in unwanted activities. So we
want to know the reason behind it. It is also necessary to find out the usage of the
reading habit from time to time, so that necessary measure can be initiated for
better utilization of this service. The present study focuses on the use of Reading
habit Among LIS Student DAVV, Indore Colleges (M.P

1.3. Objectives:

This study reports the results of a survey of Library and Information Science
students addressing this question. The objectives were to determine:

1. To study the purpose of the reading services by the library users.

2. To study the frequency of use of different types of reading resources and services
in the LIS Students.
3. To examine the satisfaction of users regarding.
4. To find out the difficulties in accessing and using reading materials by the
students.
5. To suggest appropriate measures to improve the reading habits and services for the
users.
6. To find out the problem faced by the respondents while using the library.
7. To know whether the students spend time on various activities.
8. To know the activities interfere most with reading and studying.

1.4. Review of Literature:

Review of literature: There are many literatures published on Reading habits. I learnt
many literatures and found more related information to Study of reading habits among
LIS students of Indore city.(M.P)
Apeji, Eadeche(2009),1The Teacher Librarian plays a leading role in the learning
process a process that emphasizes inquiry discovery method. A clear point that has
emerged from this method is that student must necessary necessarily develop a love for
voluntary read cultivating in a reading culture. It is argued in this paper that the teacher
librarian is in good vantage position to help students to develop reading habits and skills
that will promote a reading culture the processers for developing such habits and skills
are also discussed. M.R, Ramesh(2012),2 The Paper explores the result of a study
based on public libraries in erode corporation, Tamil nadu. Totally 200 readers were
surveyed with the help of structured questionnaire to know it the public library users of
erode corporation, Tamil nadu have habit of reading or not. The results of this study
which aimed to find out the reasons for reading books and now the electronic media like
TV, CD and DUPS have influences reading habits of people has enabled us to reveal
some interesting findings given in results and discussions part of this paper. The findings
re worth for sharing with the LIS professionals. Partha, Sarathi Modal(2008),3 This
paper discusser the reading habit of the students of class seven and eight. This study is
based on real life survey of 205 pupils carried out at bard wan town. It shows the bobby.
Spending hours on text and non- text book I a day and their popular topic in magazine
and news paper .S, Nattar(2010),4 In the present study an attempt has been made to
examine the problems related to reading habits of the students in libraries and a few the
suggested remedial measures A total of 1212 students from 32 colleges were served as
the sample for the present study. The data was collected by structured questionnaire
which had components on various problems and suggestions to improve the reading
habit . Some the important aspects to improve the reading habit are reading more than
news paper (59.93) , Journal and Magazines (17.33), Reading more Journal books other
than text books (9.90), Respondents expressed that they are improving their reading
5
habits using the facilities in the library. Mondal, Parthasarathi(2008), A Modern
Saying Says todays Readers are tomorrows Leader. One should read books and ot
her materials to acquire knowledge. Unless one reads and get in touch with the mass
media, It is difficult to knowledge what is going around us- Not only that a student has to
read books other than his text books so that the area of thinking and acting will become
broader Reading to learn is an essential tool for life- long learning. Promoting a reading
culture among students is therefore one of the key tasks in the in the curriculum reform
with aim to strengthen students learning capabilities. Reading can definitely be taken as
the first button in the garment education. It is not the sole objective of school, But is is
almost impossible to think of education without thinking about what happens and what is
implied when a human being tries to get meaning out of the written o printed symbols.
LIS course material frequently. The show that the students overall responded (79.53%)
are interested in reading LIS course material frequently. The result show that the students
overall responded the work most often interfered with their reading and
studying.Thanuskodi, S(2011),6This paper aims to provide an introduction to students
reading habits and to present a study that authors have conduct in three universities in
Croatia, Austria and Slovenes. The primary objective of this research is an attempt to
explore the reading habits of LIS students and their attitudes towards reading of
professional and other literature. In this paper can be find existing literature overview,
results from authors research and conclusion about LIS students reading habits.Luka,
Bratovi(2010),7 Reading habit is an essential and important aspect for creating the
literate society in this world. It shapes the personality of an individual and it helps them
to develop the proper thinking methods and creating new ideas. At present, due to the
influence of the Mass Media, people could not show much interest in reading the books,
magazines and journals etc, Therefore, there is the urgent need to develop the reading
habit among the individuals in the society. In this paper, the author has discussed the
various methods and benefits in improving the reading habits.K.K, Palani(2012),8 The
aim of this research is to investigate reading habits and interests of students in the
faculties of education. The study is adescriptive undertaking in the scanning model. The
sample of the study was chosen from students studying in universities in the Turkish
Republic of Northern Cyprus. Determined by the convenience sampling method, a total
of 317 students with 62.80% girls (n=199) and 37.20% boys (n=118) constitute the
population of the study. Reading Interests Scale (RIS) and Reading Habit
Questionnaire Adults Form (RHQ-A) that were developed by Dkmen (1994) and
personal information form were used as a data collecting tool. In the analysis of the data,
f-test, t-test, Chi-square test and Scheffe techniques were used. The level of statistical
significance was accepted as .05 in the study. As a result of the research, it was
determined that reading interests of the students are at medium level ( =59.675+8.687)
and it was determined that there is a meaningful differentiation according to gender
(t=2.876; p<.05) and socio economic level (F=8.173; p<.05). In addition reading habit of
the students was determined very low. In this context, requirement of development of
reading habits and interest of the students was determined. Ahmet, Pehlivan(2010),9
This report, based on a recent survey of over 8,000 primary and secondary pupils in
England, explores why some pupils choose to read and others do not. The research
literature shows that reading for pleasure benefits children in numerous ways. Yet,
research also shows that young peoples reading enjoyment may be declining. Given
current political concerns about reading and the clear benefits that reading for pleasure
can bring, it is vital that more emphasis is placed on reading enjoyment both at school
and at home. The National Literacy Trust therefore conducted a survey for Reading
Connects in 2005 to collect evidence about childrens and young peoples reading
preferences and reading behaviors with the aim of supporting parents, teachers and other
literacy professionals in promoting wider reading. Childerns and young people
reading (2005),10 Teacher educators, classroom teachers, and reading researchers
generally concur that engaging in recreational (or free voluntary reading) and
academic (or school-related reading) reading is critically important for students
reading development and overall academic achievement (e.g., Krashen, 2004; Wu &
Samuels, 2004). Therefore, students at all levels, including adolescents and adults, are
expected and encouraged to engage in both of these types of reading. However, in light
of the emergence of the Internet as an exceedingly prominent new information and
communication technology, it is unclear whether the time college students spend on the
Internet and watching television displaces or interferes with the time these students
report spending on conventional reading for academic or recreational purposes.
Mokhtari, Kouider(2009),11 This paper reports the findings of a study of
undergraduate student use of, and attitudes toward, textbooks and other assigned reading.
More than 1200 students of various subjects at three Swedish universities were surveyed.
Most students said reading played an important role in learning generally and attributed
positive characteristics to their textbooks. However, students self-reported reading
behaviour was at odds with these attitudes, with many students reporting some degree of
non-compliance with reading assignments and a small group of students expressing
active resistance to completing reading assignments. Although textbooks were perceived
as valuable, students reported a preference for learning course content from other
resources, such as lectures and lecture notes. Textbooks were perceived as alternatives,
rather than complements, to attending class. Differences were found across academic
disciplines. Implications of these findings for educational administration and classroom
practice are discussed. Pecorari, Diane2012),12 This Study investigates the reading
and library habits among teenagers in Oslo, Norway using qualitative interviews and
survey. Interviews with four girls demonstrate individual variation in their literary tastes
and in the roles of reading they take on . The survey gives an overview of teenagers
library use and their literature preferences and detects that girls and boys differ in
preferences of reading media. Differences in literary tastes are also shown as gender
based. The survey indicates different patterns in reading frequency and reading materials
in the sense that students from the schools with the closest connection to the public
Library read more, as well as in a broader range of reading materials than students from
schools with no such connection. .K, Tveit(2012),13 This review of research
examines the constructs of reading motivation and synthesizes research findings of the
past 20 years on the relationship between reading motivation and reading behavior
(amount, strategies, and preferences), and the relationship between reading motivation
and reading competence (reading skills and comprehension). In addition, evidence
Schiefele, Ulrich(2012),14 Relating to the causal role of motivational factors and to the
role of reading behavior as a mediator of the effects of motivation on reading
competence is examined. We identify seven genuine dimensions of reading motivation:
curiosity, involvement, competition, recognition, grades, compliance, and work
avoidance. Evidence for these dimensions comes from both quantitative and qualitative
research. Moreover, evidence from previous studies confirms the positive contribution of
intrinsic reading motivation, and the relatively small or negative contribution of extrinsic
reading motivation, to reading behavior and reading competence. The positive
contribution of intrinsic motivation is particularly evident in relation to amount of
reading for enjoyment and reading competence and holds even when accounting for
relevant control variables. However, the causal role of reading motivation and the
mediating role of reading behavior remain largely unresolved issues.
Nathanson,Steven, John Pruslow nad Roberta Levitt(2008), 15 This article describes
a questionnaire survey of 747 students enrolled in a graduate school of education, who
are currently teachers or prospective teachers. The Literacy Habits Questionnaire,
developed by Applegate and Applegate, was administered in September 2006. Findings
suggest a high prevalence of aliteracy, the ability to read but a disinterest in personal
reading. Although graduate students acknowledge the importance of reading for teachers,
they do not themselves exhibit investment in personal reading. Also, the findings suggest
that professors of literacy and education need to do more to encourage personal reading
by incorporating strategies to promote reading among current and future literacy
professionals. Nor Shahriza, Abdul Karim(2006), 16 This study is an attempt to
understand the reading habits and attitudes of the Bachelor ofIT students and the
Bachelor of Arts students from the International Islamic University Malaysia. The study
also aims to explore these differences in terms of gender. Design/methodology/approach
The study used a survey approach in collecting the data. Thepopulation of the study
was the undergraduate students from two academic faculties at the university. The
faculties were Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology (KICT) (IT-
based) and Kuliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Science (KIRKH)
(arts-based). Based on the 400b sample drawn, 127 responses were received from the
survey. Findings The study finds that the web site is seen as an increasingly important
reading source. Significant differences exist between academic programs and types of
reading materials and reading resources particularly use the web sites. Some differences
in reading habits and attitudes were also observed between male and female
participants.Research limitations/implications Limitations in this study are related to
the small sample size, the inclusion of only two academic faculties, and the limited
amount of variables studied. Practical implications In general, the findings of the study
should assist the University authority, especially the library and the computing
department, to look into service matters pertaining to accommodating the reading as well
as the studying habits of the student. Originality/value The pattern of reading, as is
known from the past, may not be the same as reading as it is known today or in the
future. Research in reading habits needs to be further updated by including current
advancement in ICT, where the technology has enabled reading to be more timely and
somewhat non-linear by using devices such as computers, PDAs and wireless phones
without the presence of any printed document. Md, Sohail and Andleeb Alvi(2011),17
Study of data collected from 56 users by the administrating questionnaires among their
attitudes towards reading habits and purpose of the visiting of libraries at Delhi Public
Library, New Delhi, indicate that the, purpose of reading, preference of language, form
of library collection, assistance from the library staff in the use of resources and services
is necessary to help users meet their information requirements. Finds that people are
unable to visit the library regularly due to lack or shortage of time and literature being
mostly read by the users are magazines and newspapers S. M. Shafi and Fayaz Ahmad
Loan (2011),18 Reading has increasingly been the object of empirical and theoretical
investigation since decades being studied from different dimension by subject specialists
particularly Psychology, Sociology, Education, Media Studies and Library & Information
Science. The present study aims to investigate the reading habits of the college students
and their gender variability. Design/Methodology/Approach The survey method is
employed with a questionnaire for data collection following stratified random sampling.
The data is analysed using different statistical and quantitative techniques. The findings
obtained are correlated with earlier studies. Besides Z-statistic test is applied for the
testing of hypothesis. Findings The results reveal that the college students have positive
attitude towards reading with females being more dominant. The students, irrespective of
gender acquire reading habits mostly of their own and prefer to read in morning, at home
and in English language. The results discover that male read for information and females
for education more. It further reveals that the male students mostly read about Religion,
Politics and Literature whereas majority of female prefer Religion, Science &
Technology and Literature. Research limitations/implications Despite providing
meaningful insights on reading habits across genders, the limitation of the study is its
sample size and frame focussing college students. This makes it difficult to generalise the
results across different sections of the society. Originality/value The study confirms that
gender is the principle factor affecting reading habits of students and females are more
pre-dominant than males in reading culture M.R. RAMESH(2012),19 The paper
explores the result of a study based on public libraries in Erode Corporation,
Tamilnadu.Totally 200 readers were surveyed with the help of a structured questionnaire
to know if the public library users of Erode Corporation, Tamilnadu have the habit of
reading or not. The results of thisstudy which aimed to find out the reasons for reading
books and how the electronic media like TV, CDs and DVDs have influenced reading
habits of people has enabled us to reveal some interesting findings given in results and
discussions part of this paper. The findings are worth for sharing with the LIS
professionals. Ofodu Graceful Onovughe(2012),20 Within the Nigerian context, it is
worrisome to notice the way derogatory comments about the way students apply
themselves to modern technologies. Many people have attributed students non-challant
attitude to reading to the use of the Internet. The reason is that they do not seem to see
any correlation between the Internet and reading. The purpose of this study is to examine
the Internet use and reading habits of higher institution students in Ekiti State. The study
was conducted using a descriptive survey research method. The population for the study
consists of one state university, one private university and a federal polytechnic. The
simple random sampling technique was used to select the sample that was used for the
study. 266 higher institution first year students were randomly selected from the
population. This cut across all disciplines ranging from arts to science to engineering and
social sciences, inclusive of both sexes. The survey instrument was a questionnaire titled
Internet use and reading habits of higher institution students in Ekiti state. All data were
analyzed using simple percentages. Finding revealed that a large percentage of the
respondents generally enjoy reading and it could be safely said that the reading culture of
the students is favorable since the advent of internet. It also reveals that large number
respondents actually engage in activities that may not add value to their academic
performance. Devendra Kumar(2012),21 Reading is usually a private act, a personal
and individual relationship with a book; but then, it is the environment as long as it is
favourable, which according to Gault (1982: p 16) encourage the setting up of this
relationship. The school library must in this case serve as the needed environment. And
this it should do, by integrating itself completely into the educational system to achieve
the overall objectives of the school. And what, better ways are there to do this than to
stimulate the intellectual growth of the child through the provision of appropriate
instructional materials for teachers and reading materials for students. It should go
further by not only transforming itself into a research centre of some sort where students
are taught how to sift data through independent reading, but also by providing a
workshop setting for supervised studies of individuals and groups.
1.5. Scope and Limitation:

The study is limited to the students of the LIS Student DAVV Indore colleges
(M.P.). The sample was selected through the purposive method of questionnaire.
For this study it was decided to cover BLISc, MLISc. And MPhil Students.
DAVV Indore Colleges.(M.P).

1.6. Hypothesis:

1. LIS student preferred online reading.

2. Library is most preferred place for reading.

1.7. Methodology:
To collect the data a questionnaire was designed containing the questions relating
to the reading habits. The questionnaire was distributed among the respondents in
their classrooms during the vacant periods. Every question was explained to the
student for their better understanding. The questionnaire method has been used.
Accordingly the questionnaire was distributed among 83 students of School of
library and information science, IPS(Academy), Sri aurobindo institute of
technology & management science, Govt. Jija bai PG College, Govt. M.L.B.PG.

Chapter-4th : Its deals with Data Collection and Analysis.

Chapter - 5th: Its deals with Finding, Conclusion & Suggestions.

1.9. Definition:

The proposal writer must define all the important variable includes in study in
operational terms. These definitions provide a good background with which the
researcher approaches the problem. It is not easy to define the term information
precisely. It has many aspects by nature. According to the mathematical theory of
information, the amount of information in a message is related to the probability ratio
o9f the message. Information may be defined as data of value to decision-making.
Information Is the data which can be transmitted between individuals, can detach
individuals

2.3 Reason of Changing Reading Habit

2.4 Increasing effect of Information Technology

2.1. History of Reading habit:

Reading habit has been a subject of investigation in librarianship journalism. Education,
literature and history. Specially reading habit refer to the settled tendency or practice of
people to voluntarily seek-motivation to read is often provided by family members,
friends, teachers, librarians and society at large , because of the diversity of the concept it
is not surprising that many approaches or methods have been used to measure reading
habit of particular user groups, this includes questionnaire, historical records, detailed
diaries of leisure activities, library circulation date statistics of books sales, etc. The need
for information is a primary motivator of both children and adult, this need can not only
be satisfied by printed materials but also by instruction. People read material, which
might help them. Learn more about more their occupations or about their hobbies.
Together with television and radio, reading tends to be the primary source of information
on foreign issues, urban problem and culture values, reading satisfying intellectual and
political demands, student use reading to acquire knowledge which is related to
scholastic success; indeed young people view this as the primary motive for reading.
Reading also provides a source of pleasure. Studies have shown that preschoolers, old
people and adults read for the joy of reading. For many, especially characters. The basic
philosophy of librarianship is to provide the material to its user pin -pointedly,
exhaustively and expeditiously, so that the users can make use of the resource available
in the library, timely provision of information will greatly enhance the reading habit. As
such any service provided initiated by the declining reading habit. The response is
presented in below table. From the table it is clear that the reading the user belonging to
different categories have expressed the opinion that the reading habit are declining. For
various reasons described below. Father an afford has been made to find out the
seriousness of the problem with the problem with the declining habits.
2.2 Changing reading Habit:

It is hard that most of the youth of today is not seriously interested in reading books.
Actually they don't have the time and patience to read. They would rather prefer to waste
their valuable time in unwanted activities, rather than going through the books. Another
reason for the decline in the reading habit is that youngsters can't afford to buy the
exorbitantly priced book they prefer cheaper means of entertainment even the schools
don't encourage reading amongst student. However, some youngster still believes that
reading books is the best means of entertainment and pleasure. avoid young reading like
books on self-improvement because book help in shaping their overall personalities,
books help in shaping their overall personalities books are a great source of valuable
human being Gillian opined that the introduction of electronic media and the internet had
greatly reduced reading by students, Gillian, who is also a renowned psychologist ,said
broad cultural factors discourage healthy reading habit " Our approach is not based on
thinking, but on affiliations . Sentiments & emotions" he added .he said another reason
material. He said the material available was expensive and beyond the reason of common
reader.

As education is steadily penetrating, an ever increasing number of people, its quality and
the standard have been witnessing a gradual decline. Except for the product of leading
institutions, a good number of course. This is one of the major complaints of most of the
employers all over the world, to compete globally, we need to stress on the quality of
education as well, and otherwise the army of education and unemployed will only swell
in number. Another disturbing trend globally is the decline of reading habit with the
popularization of television. Reading habit is very important to keep up to date and
acquire knowledge. It also teaches patience and improves the comprehension and
analytical skill.

The information society has a negative impact of developing individualistic attitudes.

this negative trend along with the lack of stress on ethics and values in otherwise, we will
be churning out highly selfish and individualistic robot, this is already noticeable in
western nation with detriments effects on the society at large, there are the very
challenging times for all of us, who work in higher education, state support has declined
sharply in the past several years and perhaps even more alarming over the past quarter
century. At the same time expectation of user are greater and especially from students
and parents who bear the burden of rising tuition fees a product of declining state
support, in many areas of arts, humanities and social sciences, the scholarly books
remain the preferred vehicle for communicating the results of research. While rising
costs and deckling library budgets have combined to make scholarly books publishing
even more competitive. The declining state support for higher education has clearly
made our reading habit blow.

2.3. Increasing effect of information technology:

It is presumed that the collection of library will greatly influence on the reading
habit of the users. The opinion thus collected is presented in table .the same has been
presented in the graph and diagram etc. from table. which is clear that out of total
respondents has ranked improper collection or library as top most reason for declining
reading habit , here it is necessary to state that present day libraries are encircled with the
large number of problems. Financial resources being the main causes followed by
exponential growth of the information being published

University Teaching Departments (UTDs) are on the Takshashila Campus.

The policy change of 1990-91 i.e. globalization and liberalization of the Indian Economy
has created a demand for high skilled technical and managerial manpower. The
University, thus in 1990-91 diversified its courses and programmes and introduced many
innovative programs to fulfill the needs of the emerging economy on self supporting
basis. This has changed the structure of the University, which now has 35 University
Teaching Departments (UTDs) and Centres for providing in-campus teaching and
research facilities to almost 9000 students every year. University has a wide range of
courses spanning across 16 faculties. The University has 244 regular and 80 contractual

ensure smooth functioning of the entire system. The vacancies in the regular faculty
positions are being met by contractual appointments and visiting lecturers.
The University in addition to its teaching departments, boasts 270 Govt., Govt. aided and
private institutes as affiliated colleges, which serve around 1,60,000 students ever year.
University is now recognized as a brand name for our diversified course structure. This
diversified course structure has even motivated some of the private investors to spend in
higher Education in the city. In the recent times, Indore district has emerged as a hub of
Higher education in the state

5.4. Conclusion:
It is encouraging to know that the student community awakened to read which will
raise good citizens for the country. The role of Librarian in college is really
challenging. If the students in college start reading at a young age, it will create an
impact in every area of their life. The above findings of this study lead us to
conclude that LIS students need to improve their reading habits. It will be beneficial
to have a record of their reading habits in order to make predictions about their
academic success in the study. For effective promotion of reading habits, skills and
culture, reading must be made pleasurable and voluntary. All shades of opinion
must be catered for be well considered. It is such a demonstration of democratic
sensitivity that can turn even a reluctant reader to a lover of books. In a library there
should be adequate reading area and related facilities to accelerate reading habits.
There are still barriers in creating a reading environment that will inculcate good
reading habits in LIS students. The library is still the best place for quiet study.
This whole set up of activities pertaining to promotion of reading habits in college
libraries as mentioned above is an intricate task. It requires the cooperation of all
concerned; but with all eyes alert an the some goal and imbued with the high spirit
of service; success will not be that far. The journey may be overwhelming and
difficult, but the efforts should be continued. This is a challenge, and we need to
accept. The librarians must be dedicated, committed, and devoted to their respective
institutions, in order to uplift others by giving timely better service.

The innovative and resourceful teachers librarian can think of umpteen numbers of
activities to promote book reading and instill a constructive attitude for reading in
users. Lack of time and administrative pressure of managing a library, in many
cases with little or no help, are often the only hindrance to a wealth of reading
inspiring in the Library and information science college in Indore city. No doubt,
reading is a skill that make the librarians so important even in the era of information
technology. Reading habit plays a vital role I the mental growth and development of
an individual. Though these can be better inculcated in the childhood, but these can
be developed in the later stage of life too. The responsibility of developing reading
habits lies with the trio of parents. One of these can be by asking the questions to
the students from the books He/she is returning to the library after reading. If
answers are correct, there must be some incentive. The utility of library collection
will also increase as a byproduct by this method.
