IV. RATIONALE

The Philippine economy continues to boom in the past years. Together with this

growth is the increase in supply and demand across sectors including power

consumption. Electricity remains as the most common source of energy used by

households in the Philippines according to Department of Energy (DOE), from the

results of the latest Household Energy Consumption Survey (HECS). Several factors

such as the increase in temperature and utilization of cooling equipment, increase in

economic growth, and other power demands resulted in substantial increase in

electricity consumption according to DOE as cited in their 2016 Philippine Power

Situation Report.

Power consumption is priced to an overall rate of PhP9.89 per kWh as Meralco

announced in April 2017. This amounts to a PhP45 increase in the total bill of a typical

residential household consuming 200kWh.

The first step on finding ways to decrease energy consumption is by measuring it

and monitoring it. Every residence has an electric meter that shows only the overall

household energy (kWh) consumed. The meter is usually placed where it is convenient

for the utility, not for the user to read.

The focus of this proposed project is to develop a (INSERT PROJECT TITLE

HERE) where every single one conservation-minded users or renters can measure their

own electric consumption individually. The project was ideal to be used in

establishments like dormitories or boarding houses where every single consumer will

be charged of their own power consumption.

The proposed device is RFID-based, basically a modified electrical outlet, that can

only be turned on if a power socket adaptor equipped with a RFID tag is plugged into

it. The device will compute for the total electricity consumption on a per-user basis,

showing it on a LED display, and finally storing the data on a SD card.

V. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The primary objective of the study is to design and develop a (INSERT TITLE

HERE).

Specifically, it aims to:

1. design and construct the circuit of the system;

2. design and fabricate the device;

3. compute for the total electricity consumption on a per-user basis;

4. test and evaluate the performance through method testing; and

5. conduct a cost computation.

2. Design and fabricate the machine

3. Compute for the total electricity consumption on a per-user basis

4. Test and evaluate the performance through pilot testing; and

5. Conduct a cost computation.

VII. EXPECTED OUTPUT

Figure 1 and 2 demonstrates the expected output of the system. The device consists of

temperature sensor, moisture sensor and gas sensor which detects the temperature, moisture

and oxygen level of the food fertilizer machine. Servo motor for the control of the turning of

the composting material. It also has an LCD which will display the temperature, moisture, and

oxygen to determine the condition of the composting material.

VIII. SYSTEM DIAGRAM

Figure 3 shows the system diagram of the scheme. The process of the system is to sense

the temperature, moisture and oxygen level of the food fertilizer machine, and will be process

by the Arduino Microcontroller which varies the composting of the food. The temperature

sensor, moisture sensor and gas sensor will determine if the composting material are in good

condition. Temperature, oxygen and moisture by the system will be displayed on the on the
LCD Display. The temperature of the compost material must maintain between 55-65 oC. The

oxygen content inside the machine should ideally range from 16.5% to 20.9%. The good

moisture content in the soil is approximately 50% to 55%.
