Job Description & Requirements
Medical Technologist - Clinical Laboratory Scientist - (Med Tech - MT - CLS)
StartDate: 06/06/2016Available Shifts: 8 D Pay Rate: $31.00 - 36.00
Medical technologists, or clinical laboratory scientists, are responsible for performing complex tests on blood and
other body fluids, such as: biological, chemical, hematological, immunological, microscopic, and bacteriological
tests. Medical technologists analyze samples for chemical content or reaction, determine concentrations of
compounds, and type and cross match samples for blood transfusions. They are also held responsible for the
accuracy of the tests they run and the results they find.
Required Qualifications
Must be ASCP. Techs do not draw blood as we have our own phlebotomists that work night shift. Blood Bank
Experience required. Would prefer someone who has worked with the Haemonetics / Wyndgate Blood Bank
Information System (also known as McKesson Horizon Blood Bank or HBB). We are a Level 2 Trauma Center
and do all sorts of surgery so it not unusual to prepare and issue blood during the night. Chemistry Experience-
most of our techs are generalists and work in all areas of the lab. We would prefer to train a temp in only a couple
areas of the lab. Chemistry analyzers are Beckman DXC, DXI 800 and 600 and Siemens Centaur. We generally
work two to three techs on our night shift (three on our busy nights). Along with two phlebotomists.bOur LIS is
Epic Beaker. It is a pretty new system so I wouldn't expect to find a tech with prior experience on this system and
I don't think it would be hard for a tech to learn. We would like someone with several years of experience so they
know their way around a lab and have good critical thinking skills.
