System Introduction
NetNumenN31 ZTE integrated network management system is the
latest-developed network management system with completed in-
tellectual property and some patent technology.
This system adopts advanced and mature network elements
structure, providing a complete set of cross-platform develop-
ment tools, modules and API based on Java. It can integrate
with many third parties conveniently. NetNumenN31 following
the design principle from bottom to top, is a highly customized,
carrier-class and cross-platform integrated network management
system which provides overall solution in allusion to network
management.
For actual needs, NetNumenN31 manages various network ele-
ments promptly, smart and economically which brings carriers with
expansibility of better social and economic profits, and the sys-
tem high expansibility ensures the system upgrading smoothly and
least strike under the conditions of expansion or adding new net-
work devices.
System Principle
Distributed NetNumenN31 network management system which adopts three-
Processing layer customer/server structure is a typical distributed application
Structure system. It divides into three parts, database server, network man-
agement server and network management client. Refer to Figure
1for details, the network management client accesses database
information and exchanges information with network elements via
network management server.
System Architecture
NetNumen N31 adopts three-layer structure: database server,
server and client. Refer to Figure 2
Networking Mode
Figure 3 shows the networking mode regarding NetNumenN31 ZTE
integrated network management system.
Function Features
System Functions Most functions of NetNumenN31 ZTE integrated network manage-
ment system are as follows.
1. Topology management
5. Strategy management
Strategy is a regulation pre-defined in NetNumenN31, which
prescribes the behavior mode of NetNumenN31 under certain
conditions.
Through the management view, strategic management pro-
vides strategy creation, strategy modification, strategy query
and strategy deletion. This enables users to easily manage the
strategies.
6. Alarm management
Alarm management function, a functional group, is used to
manage faults occurring in various operating network devices
under the control of NetNumenN31. This function enables cen-
tralized management and monitoring of alarms, events and no-
tifications in network.
Alarm management can be used to:
i. Manage alarms from network devices
ii. Manage system alarms generated according to some run-
ning operator thresholds predefined in NetNumenN31, such
as performance alarms, and system management alarms.
iii. Monitor and manage events and notification in network.
Any of the following operations may be performed once alarms
occur.
Displays the alarm in an intuitionistic way, such as sound,
light or alarm box, to the network maintenance personnel.
Filtrates alarms according to some specified conditions.
Acknowledges/Unacknowledges the occurrence of the
alarm.
Deletes alarms.
Informs relevant persons through emails or short mes-
sages.
Queries the detailed information or events regarding
alarms.
Search the alarm handling suggestions in the correspond-
ing database (if stored when each kind of alarms occur)
when similar alarms take place.
7. Auto-detection and configuration
As an internal service, auto-detection and configuration auto-
matically operates in NetNumenN31, unnecessary for manual
startup and configuration.
NetNumenN31 can identify the specific types and attributes for
each device using SNMP, and then import concerned nodes into
the database using the filtering rules.
Auto-detect and configuration module provides user-friendly
man-machine interface for manual configuration of auto-de-
tected parameters.
System Features 1. Standard compliance
NetNumenN31 strictly follows TMN-series suggestions and
RFC-series NMS protocols instituted by ITU-T.

Requirements
Software OS: Windows XP professional English version or OS installed before
Requirements delivery (generally, windows server 2003). Additionally, the latest
key patches must be downloaded and installed through Windows
Update.
Note:
About 1G space should be reserved for the installation directory
of NetNumen N31 client.
Some temporary files are generated during the boot process of
NetNumen N31 client, which are stored in C:\temp by default.
Therefore, at least 150 M available space should be guaran-
teed.
During the initiation process, at least 600M space is required
for data files, and more space is required as the operation
process continues. Hence, sufficient space should be guaran-
teed for the data storage directory (generally in the installation
directory of the database). For example, for sql server, after
the installation completes, the storage directory for data files
is %SQL Install Dir%\MSSQL\Data.

Caution:
Check that there is the computer with the same name. When de-
ploying an office, directly use the new computers with OSs installed
in advance to perform networking. The possibility that computers
share the same name is great. If the local computer share name
with other computers, one cannot boot the network management
system.
Caution:
The number of files and their names in the directory change
depending on the NetNumen N31 software version.
Caution:
The name of the installation path of NetNumenN31 cannot
contain the following characters: Chinese characters, +,
blank, [, ], (, ), %, =, # and !. The installation folder can-
not be wrapped two much. The path length cannot exceed
240 characters.
Caution:
If the sa password of currently installed SQL Server data-
base is not the default netnumen, use the SQL Server
owned tool to modify the sa password to netnumen or
double-click the Value column of Database System
Administrator Password to modify the sa password of
the current SQL Server.
Initializing Windows-Pla
tformed NetNumen N31

Prerequisites Before initializing the NetNumen N31 database, meet the following
requirements:
Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2003 Server is already in-
stalled. Meanwhile, the latest key patches have already been
downloaded and installed from the Microsoft website through
Windows Update.
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 is installed, patched with sql2ksp3.
NetNumen N31 server software is already installed.
Steps 1. Select Start > All Programs > NetNumen N31 > Tools

/usr, /var and /tmp).
Caution:
The following comments must not be added to the file.
Note:
For the initial installation, the Inventory Locationinterface

Note:
The rest parameters of the initipms.ora file should remain
unchanged, still using the default values.
Caution:
For other UNIX hardware configuration, operators other than
Oracle engineers should not modify the initial parameters re-
garding Oracle database. Otherwise, the system may work
improperly.

Installing SUN-Platformed
NetNumen N31
Prerequisites To install NetNumen N31 software, meet the following require-
ments:
For NetNumen N31 server,
Operating system: Solaris 9i with the latest key patches
Oracle database is installed with latest patches.

Caution:
If the IAD is used, for the 34.31 version, the ums-
svr\zxnm01\cpe\cpe-base.par\hibernate-service.xml
file uses the default configuration which is the same as
sqlserver . Under the same directory, the hibernate-ser-
vice.xml.sql.oracle file, if in Oracle environment,
should be renamed to hibernate-service.xml.sql
Caution:
If the system password of currently installed Oracle
database is not the default netnumen, use the Ora-
cle owned tool to modify the system password to net-
numen or double-click the Value column of Database
System Administrator Password to modify the pass-
word according to the system password of the current
Oracle database.
For the dual-system, IP Address must be modified to
the float IP of the database and Database File Path
must also be modified to /home/oracle/oradata/
usually.
Optimize is not fit for the Oracle database.
Caution:
For Solaris operating system, it is mandatory to create a
ftp user. Access the netnumen/docs/ZXNM01/zxss di-
rectory and run the script: sun-addftpuser.sh.
Initializing SUN-Platformed
