When I Fall In Love

Ricardo Saúl LaRosa

Gentle is a heart; who has waited an eternity; enduring loneliness’ sorrows,

Unbearable as an iron sword penetrating deeply into the flesh; raw, merciless,
Ripping apart not just his flesh, but, the hallowed soul that dwells within him,

Sweet are her kisses; bestowed in vain; in falseness that deceived this coy heart,
A naiveté from a mind born unto a pure soul; believing a goodness in everyone,
Blinded by his enthusiasm for life; an endless zest for compassion to a fault,

Passionate is her loving; as only womanly possible; scratching his back with lines,
Carved with her long, exotic nails of desire; carving beyond his skin into his soul,
Disenabling his spirit’s super soul; imprisoning his heart in her tantalizing smile,

Blind is his heart; imprisoned in love’s illusionary spell; her mystifying beauty,
Her lips slightly ajar; painted a rosy red with a slender hue of womanish pink,
Puckered innocently as little girl’s tender kiss; but, she is a little girl no more,

Hell bound is his soul; for loving one who does not love him; deceived once again,
By those passions brewing in a poet’s heart; fervently loving whom he ought not,
Sightless not seeing nor accepting that this romance, his love, is not a true love,

Insane are his desires; planted by the vanities of his own imaginations; tragedies,
Looming all about, waiting to manifest when his soul is sleeping, dreamingly,
To attack his unguarded heart and slash its deadly blow piercing his life’s hopes,

Wretchedness was his destiny; but, not anymore; for this poet has learned to love,
First and foremost himself; above all else on this Hell we call Earth; his eyes opened,
For the very first time in his life; eyes tired of crying; heart tried of dying over and
over,

Not anymore; not anymore; for this torment ends today; now and forevermore,
He has forgiven himself; for betraying his heart, his soul; his spirit; his dreams,
Dreams precious and blossoming as are the first flowers of the Eternal Spring,
When I fall in love; it shall be genuinely; blessed by the stars themselves; joyous,
Sanctioned by Providence itself; anointed with sweet oils from the Himalayans,
A blending of rose buds, jasmine, gardenias, daisy, ginger all in one sweet kiss,

From her womanly lips to my willing anticipating lonesome lips awaiting no more,
Love’s sweet surrender; my heart cherished, protected, enshrined upon her soul,
Love! This love! This heavenly love that had eluded me for eons will finally come,

Love knows no sorrows; but, the sorrows that drove him to the point of madness,
Exiled on Mars; banished from his land of birth; loneliness his only companion,
Glazing at celestial skies; praying; wishing; crying; claiming his birthright; today,

I need you! I need you! My heart cries out for the warmth of your touch, sweetheart,

When I fall in love,

It shall be with you,

My dearest,
My beloved,
My only true love…
