In the past, I have experimented with making music using technology. From recording
an audition and turning it into a digital audio file to experimenting on a soundboard
making beats. My favorite experience was using a launchpad soundboard and creating
some sounds with my friend Alonso. We used it to pass time on the way to Chicago,
Illinois on a school trip. I enjoyed this because though I didnt have much knowledge in
using a launchpad, with Alonsos help I was able to transfer some of my ideas over to
the computer and create one-of-a-kind, unique, and original sounds that featured more
than just a solo clarinet. I see this falling under the peripheral devices category seeing
as it is solely an extension to a computer that creates and easier medium for the
transactions of your idea to the computer. My other experience was with a school
seating audition my sophomore year of high school. I didnt have much experience prior
to this using any form of recording technology. I acquired a Microphone and a well
equipped laptop to record my audition. The Microphone was definitely a peripheral and
what I created was a digital audio file that I was able to submit for my seating test. I
have enjoyed the few opportunities I have had to experience music using technology
and I am excited to dive deeper into the subject.

Technology mentioned and experimented with would shape my practices as a

community engager by providing me with hands-on time to get to know the technology
I am working with which would therefore enable me to reach out to others with my
creations and work. As a leader, the technology and experience would give me
knowledge to TEACH others about music and technology and further educate people on
the topic as well as create demonstrations using the technology aforementioned by
Bauer. As a musician, the technology would help me to venture outside the realm of
wind instruments and allow me to see other genres of music aside from orchestral and
band repertoire. Not only is technological music limited to just its genre, however, many
marching bands are incorporating sound boards and other electronics into the band to
create new sounds and idea that set them apart from other bands. As a scholar, this
technology will help me to create work and art for my peers and for other classes while
also further enhancing all the topics and ideas learned.

How might these technologies help your career as a music educator? How would you
apply them to the classroom and to your curriculum? In what ways would they be
beneficial/harmful?

Where do you see these technologies in everyday life? How are they incorporated into
our daily lives? What (if any) impact do they have on us?
