AVIATION RESOURCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM VERSION 2.0
BRIEF TECHNICAL INFORMATION (R6d)

FLIGHT INFORMATION BOARD (FIB):

ARMS FPDS FIB is a real time Situational Display Board which updates the Flight Dispatchers on the
status of the Flights and the Flight Planning & Dispatch related tasks. The up-to-date flight status is
received from ARMS FOSS when integrated. Else, this data can be imported/ integrated with other
3rd party systems.
FIB is ideally suited for use at Centralized Flight Dispatch Departments of large Scheduled Air
Operators, wherein the entire fleet situation and preparedness is viewed and controlled through a
unified and user friendly interface.
The module proactively warns/ alerts the Flight Dispatchers whenever there is an adverse event,
triggered by NOTAMs, Weather or MEL/CDLs.
FIB provides live status updates on the flights, based on the aircraft movement data (OOOI timings/
Ops messages) received from ARMS FOSS.
Names of the Aircrew rostered for the flight(s) along with the multiple sectors being operated by
the same aircrew are displayed. The list can be filtered by base, fleet, crew name, etc.
Some of the other information displayed is:
EZFW for the flight (based on defaults, DCS/CRS inputs)
Status of CFP; whether generated for the flight, if yes, revision history for the same
Proactive warning based on Weather & MEL/CDL for the assigned tail number.
The Flight Dispatcher can directly generate CFPs from FIB and print/ publish the Trip Kits.
The FIB also offers a view of the following for each flight:
ETOPS map and summary (ETOPS flights are color coded for easy identification)
Route Display on a GIS Map, with all associated info.
Flight Following on a GIS Map with enroute alternates and ETOP circles where applicable.
Weather in the area of operation/ enroute, at destination and alternates.

ROUTE BUILDER (RBL):

This module assists Flight Dispatchers/ Aircrew to string valid routes based on the Navigation
(enroute points, navaids and airway segments) and Airfield data provided by the ARMS Team. The
data is based on AIPs and NOTAMs, which is updated regularly. The database also includes Flight
Level Restrictions, MEA and MORA data for each ATS route segment.
RBL also includes SIDS/ STARS data. If the user so desires, the longest SID/ STAR routing can be
included in a route, else the computation is done for VOR to VOR. SID/STAR can always be added at
the time of CFP computation for a specific flight on a particular day.
RBL strings routes automatically, based on standard logic. All the available options are ranked by
distance and presented to the user. The user can select any of the strung route and save it with a
unique name. The route is then saved in the Clients private database.
Routes can also be strung manually by the user selecting the subsequent ATS route segments. In
this option, the user can also add Direct Routing Points (DCT) and include the same in the route.
An option exists to view Enroute Airfields, Restricted Areas, FIRs, etc. Users can opt to force-exclude
an FIR or enroute point(s) to override the auto-stringing logic.
When routes are strung by the ARMS Team (as an optional add-on-service), they also audit the
route for restrictions and NOTAMs that may affect the validity of the route.

COMPUTERIZED FLIGHT PLANNING MODULE (CFP):

CFP Module is the heart of the FPDS. By default, it computes fuel consumption at all applicable
flight levels for the selected route through iterative/ recursive calculations and suggests the
optimum cruise flight level, based on minimum fuel consumption, taking into consideration the
forecasted upper wind and temperatures (Altitude Optimization).
Accurately calculates enroute timings and fuel consumption based on all permissible cruise speeds.
Cruise speed can be defined by user or dynamically calculated as a function of user-defined Cost
Index. This results in precise computation of trip fuel, thus ensuring that air operator can exploit full
ZFW potential.
CFPs can be computed based on;
Existing commercial schedules, when integrated with ARMS FOSS.
Predefined Company Routes stored in the Navigation Database.
New OD pairs for planning, costing and route evaluation purpose.
Nav Log for primary and up to two alternate destinations can be outputted in the same CFP. To
cater to more than 2 alternates, additional option to include up to 4 destination alternates (if
required) can be configured. Sector Fuel is computed based on the furthest of the alternates.
When integrated with ARMS FOSS, CFP generation can be auto-triggered based on STD using user
defined policy defaults. The Trip Kits can then be centrally stored on the server for access from
remote bases or pushed to Aircrew through the Aircrew Self Briefing Portal (ASB).
Currently under development is the new feature for 4D optimization of the flight trajectory. In this
Operations Research techniques are applied to compute the optimal flight path/ trajectory catering
to the following:
Optimum Altitude as a function of aircraft weight, forecasted winds and temperature. This
includes the option to enable auto Step-Climb: Minimize Fuel Burn
Optimum Route minimum air distance and minimum Over flight Charges: Minimize OFC Cost
Optimum Speed based on dynamically computed Cost Index: Tradeoff between fuel cost and
aircraft operating cost.
Optimum STD to make good a target STA/ slot timing at destination: based on the above
three optimized factors: Minimum cost per flight and/or maximized payload carried.
The module auto generates the Trip Kit i.e., all the documentation required for a valid flight
Dispatch (See Pre-Flight Documentation (PFD) Module below for details on content of the Trip Kit).
Trip Kit can be composed in 2 formats, viz., (a) Legacy format - fixed width text (b) Contemporary
Format in table format, with lines.
The Trip Kit can be outputted (a) directly to a printer (b) as a combined PDF file (c) as a combined
HTML file. The PDF/ HTML files can be uploaded/ sent directly to a EFB device.
Other features include:
Use of fleet/ aircraft specific performance data to ensure accurate fuel, time and distance
computations.
Up to 4 destination alternates and 1 departure alternate can be selected.
Enroute alternates can be defined for reduced contingency dispatches, ETOPS and LR Ops
flights. Enroute alternate can be kept under NOTAM and Weather watch, during the affected
time window.
CFP module gets proactive warnings based on adverse Weather, critical NOTAMS and MEL/CDL
invoked on the assigned aircraft. The thresholds for the cautionary/ warning notifications are
user-definable.
Flexibility to enter aircraft starting weight as: ETOW or ZFW. ZFW can be calculated based on
(a) Actual Pax, Baggage and Cargo Load (b) Booked Pax + Cargo Load or (c) expected Load
Factor. For sector analysis purpose, CFP can be generated at MTOW, RTOW or MLW, this
functions is especially useful for planning Cargo Flights.

The Module permits users to define key words which are then automatically highlighted on
screen and during print outs included in the Trip Kit.

WEATHER BRIEFING PORTAL (WXD)

This centralized module collates Weather and Meteorological data from a plethora of official data
service providers, e.g., WMO, WAFC, NOAA, IMD, etc. The data is polled and downloaded onto the
ARMS Aviation Data Warehouse Servers, parsed, processed and sanitized as per the needs of the
ARMS users.
WXD provides a unified interface for accessing all weather related data, charts, graphs, which can
be filtered by the users for monitoring weather and briefing of Aircrew. Flight Dispatchers and OCC
staff can use this utility to monitor inclement weather that could adversely affect the schedule.
The CFP engine reads the upper atmospheric winds and temperature data from the WXD Database,
which is updated every 6 hours. The forecasts are valid for intervals of 3 hours up to a duration of
24 hours. Option for forecast up to 8 days is also available.
Route/ sector/ time specific data is filtered and included in the Met Briefing Folder of the Trip Kit
generated by ARMS FPDS.
METARS, TAFOR, SIGWX Charts and latest satellite images are downloaded from WMO authorized/
official websites for inclusion in the Trip Kit/ Nav Log.

LOAD & TRIM MODULE (LNT):

ARMS FPDS LNT Module is used for Weight and Balance computation. It comes with a Load
Planning function and outputs a Trim Sheet in industry standard formats. It deals with all types of
payload (i.e., passengers, cargo, baggage and miscellaneous) and its distribution required to
maintain the Center-of-Gravity (CG) of the aircraft within safe operational limits.
The Load Planning solution ensures computation of optimal CG positioning, which in turn improves
the fuel consumption due to reduction in trim drag. This automated tool helps the Load planners to
plan more efficiently while saving time.
The module can be deployed as a stand-alone application or as an integrated module, part of the
ARMS Suite.

AVIATION RESOURCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM VERSION 2.0
BRIEF TECHNICAL INFORMATION (R6d)

Crew Management Sub-System (CMSS)

Crew constitutes the second most expensive resource in aircraft direct operating costs. When it
comes to reducing crew related costs and optimum utilization of crew, the complexity and
adversities are maximum. Issues that need to be addressed are; flight safety, motivation,
proficiency, skills, knowledge and professionalism. Statutory/ Regulatory bodies mandate a
multitude of rules, regulations, variables and limitations governing utilization of crew, leading
to a large number of permutations, making the task of managing crew even more challenging.
Therefore, in ARMS the CMSS plays a pivotal role for efficient resource management,
especially since it is integrated with all other Sub-Systems of ARMS. CMSS is available
separately for Flight Deck Crew & Cabin Crew. It comprises the following modules which cover
all aspects of effective & efficient crew management:

CREW RECORDS MODULE (CRM)

To-Do List and aide memoir function constantly remind the Crew Records Manager on the currency
and validity status of various crews, which if expired could render the crew non-usable for flight
duty, hence ensuring strict statutory compliance.
All mandatory and necessary Personal & Professional Records are maintained in a central database,
which can be update by crew via the Crew Portal.
Crew Documents: Scanned digital copies of various documents (e.g., Licenses, Passport, Visa, etc.)
can be and attached to Crew Records.
Tracking of Medical Records and Register of Sick Reports.
Conflict Management: Crew-pair barring for CRM or relationship restrictions.
All Training Records towards Ground, Simulator & Flying training, whether initial, recurrent or
revalidation are maintained, while continuously tracking validity and due dates.

BRIEF TECHNICAL INFORMATION (R6d)

Leave Policy, Rules and Records for each crew are maintained, with a facility to define different
rules for various categories of Crew or contract types.
Unified Log Book Entry (from Tech Log/ Pilots Sector Report/ Voyage Report) which updates all
Crew Log books with a single entry; this automatically triggers the FDTL audit engine and transfers
data to the Crew Pay & Allowances Module.

CREW TRIPS OPTIMIZER (CTO)

Crew Trip Optimizer (CTO) automatically generates the minimum cost crew trips/pairings for a
given flight schedule. These crew trips/pairings necessarily comply with the statutory regulations,
operational requirements and company policies/ union agreements, considering crew quality-of-
life.
The "Minimum Cost Crew-Trips" are generated by maximizing crew productivity while minimizing
layover, deadhead and transport costs.
Trips can be created manually that can be validated using the legality feature. The optimized trips
can be edited manually overriding the optimized results. It is also possible to manually define a few
trips and ask the optimizer to compute optimized trips for rest of the flights.
Benefits:
With features to manage multiple union rules, multiple crew bases, hotel bases and flying hour
equalization crew base-wise, the crew trip optimizer generates cost efficient pairing even for
operations with large number of flights, many aircraft variants and crew ranks.
Plans long-term budget of crew cost of operations, to accurately forecast crew manpower,
hotel facility required and positioning of crew. Estimates flying crew required base-wise and
date-wise supporting precise long term planning of the recruitments, the trainings and the
leaves.
A flexible optimizer with customizable features, which are not just limited to business rules,
cost rules and reports, can easily be controlled. This helps the user in planning the trips
effectively and efficiently.
With ability to create scenarios, planner can perform what-if-analysis for various criteria like
hotel count, crew base and union Rule negotiations to arrive at the most efficient schedule
possible.
Trial run of optimizer on actual airline schedule with all business rules incorporated, is available
for benchmarking. Also, as an after-sale offering, 24x7 support benefits the user to utilize the
system to the core.
CTO is a current generation Optimizer Solver based on Operations Research technologies, which
addresses the complexity of minimizing crew cost of operations. The CTO operates on the Cloud;
equating to a cost-effective solution which can also be made available on a SAAS (pay-per-use)
model. Therefore, unlike traditional solvers, investment in high-end Servers and super-computing
power is not required, as no local computing is done.

CREW SCHEDULING AND ROSTERING MODULE (S&R)

Scheduling of predefined Duty Patterns for different categories of Crew, bases, aircraft type, etc.
Duty Pattern can be published and circulated for a period of time before the Roster is prepared and
published.
The Crew Usable and Available Monitor:
Takes into consideration Duty Patterns, Training, Renewals, Leave Requests, etc., and tracks
the Crew available and usable for each day, which can be filtered on base and aircraft type.
Based on this, the important milestones are indicated on a timeline interface for easy
assimilation by crew planners.
This function provides a daily summary of manning level for the Roster period, so that the Crew
Planner can see shortfall/ surplus in crew and accordingly decide on temporary positioning/
postings of crew.

CREW CONTROL MODULE (CCM) WITH SMS NOTIFICATION MODULE

This Module is an integral part of the Crew Rostering & Schedule Module, which deals with the day/
week of operation. Any changes/ disruptions to the flight schedule or non-availability of crew,
causes the published Crew Roster to be out of synch with the real operational situation.
This module assists the "Crew Controllers" to reassign the crew resources, without causing FDTL
violation while minimizing disruptions to the published roster and flight schedule. Thus ensuring
"schedule adherence" and "roster stability".
Once a change/ reassignment is made, the module tracks the changes and provides tools to notify
the crew through SMS, email and/or telephone with an option for enabling acknowledgements. The
module also has a function of adding remarks as tags, which can be used as reminders or notes for
the person on the next shift.
While the Crew Controller has full rights to modify the Roster that has been released/ published,
s/he cannot make changes to future assignments (unpublished/ unreleased Plan), but can view the
same in order to minimize downstream telescoping effects.
The "Flight Duty Bars" are updated real-time by ARMS FOSS, thus providing a decision support tool
which is live and concurrent at any given point.
The CCM continuously scans the duty assignments and flight timings to trap any potential FDTL
violations or roster inconsistencies that may crop up as the operations proceed. If any violation/
inconsistency is spotted, a "pop-up" warning with an audio alarm shows up, cautioning the Crew
Controller of impending problems.
The "Crew Reporting Monitor" displays the reporting-on-duty status of the Crew triggered from the
"Crew Reporting & Briefing Kiosks".

CREW LEAVE MANAGEMENT MODULE: (CLM)
