The theme: A very long bike ride
The aims of the lesson:
Educational: To introduce students with new theme, to organize works on students oral and
written speech.
Developing: To develop logical thinking, speaking and grammatical skills, motivation of
studying of English language, interest of students to studied language.
Upbringing: To bring up students to be cultural, educational and clever person. Stimulate to
independent work, ability to work in collective.
Practical: To practice their speaking and reading, to check their pronunciation by using texts
and dialogues. Doing lexical tasks.

I. Organization moment (5 min)

II. The basic part of the lesson


a) Presentation (5 min)
T: The theme of our lesson is A very long bike ride.
How many different ways of travelling can you think of?
Imagine youre going on a long journey. In your opinion, whats the best way of travelling,
and why?
b) Work with vocabulary. (3 min)
T: Before we start our lesson lets read the new words according to the theme. Look at the
pictures in the whiteboard and repeat after me.

A very long bike ride


1. When Richard Gregg left the UK on a cycling trip, he planned to spend two or three
years abroad. But, in the end, his trip lasted 14 years. There was so much to see.
He said. I decided to take my time.
2. First he cycled to the south coast and took the ferry to France. He rode across
Europe to Italy and he sailed from Venice to Alexandria in Egypt.
3. He cycled along the banks of the River Nile to Aswan, and then he caught a train
south across the desert, because there werent any roads. While he has travelling
through East Africa, he was chased by rhino, but he arrived safely on the coast of
Kenya. From there he flew to Pakistan.
4. He rode through India, where he hurt his knee and had go to the hospital. When he
was better, he crossed the Himalayas, travelled through the Nepal and Tibet and
then into China. He saw the Great Wall of China on his way to Beijing.
5. Next, Richard took a boat to Japan. Then he ran out of money, so he had get a job.
For two and a half years, he worked as an English teacher.
6. He met his Japanese wife, Haruyo, in a backpackers hostel in Laos. She rode with
him for the next part of his trip through Southeast Asia and Australia. They got
married in New Zealand.
7. After that, Richard continued on his own. He went to the USA and Canada, where
he saw the Grand Canyon and Niagara Falls, and then into South America. But,
suddenly, his journey came to an end. He fell off his bike and broke his leg. A few
days later, he and his bike were on a plane on their way to the UK.
