Water Purification Process

By, Daven K., Garret E, Emily M, and Steven Z

The Problem
California is in a terrible drought and is in need of water. Scientists have come
to solution to our problem and have created a way for waste water to go
through purification enough times to become as clean as bottled water.
Something that has become a problem to the toilet to tap solution is the
perceived notion of water that is converted from wastewater.
There are also lots of desalinations plants popping up on the coast of
California, to convert saltwater to drinking water.
Our Question

What is the Process (How Does it Work)

We will explaining the most important
Water Purification Process
- Step 1: Filter Large Objects, Prefiltration
- Step 2: Filter Organics, Activated Carbon Filters
- Step 3: Filter Liquid Solubles, Active Guard Filter
- Step 4: Filter Inorganic Compounds, Reverse Osmosis
- Step 5: Filter Total Suspended Solids, Electrodialysis
- Step 6: Filter Brine & Salts, Brine Recycle Pump
- Step 7: Replace Undesirable Chem Ions, Ion Exchange Unit
- Step 8: Remove Bacteria and Organics, UV Sterilization
- Step 9: Add Chemicals / Minerals, Chemical Injection Pumps
- Step 10: If Passable, Water Is Sent To Storage Units
Desalination Process
The Desalination Process takes water from the ocean and filters it into clean
drinking water.

- Step 1: The water is filtered to remove impurities and solids that may interfere
with the next step.
Reverse Osmosis
- Step 2: The reverse osmosis process filters the salts out of the water.

Reverse Osmosis pushes water through a semi-permeable membrane using a high

pressure pipe which filters 95%-99% of the salts out of the water.
Step 3
- Step 3: Minerals and Chemicals are added to make the water up to health
standards.
Price
The desalination process is very expensive 1,000,000,000 spent in california.
Conclusion
After all of those steps this is a extremely long process.

From all of the filtering to adding chemicals.

It's very expensive
