Month 1 Week 1

Test out Internet Safety icon on Student Learning Links PDF and make sure it
works on student computers.
Print out posters and keyboard reference sheet. Create enlarged versions of
the posters to post on the wall for easier recognition or small versions to
post near the student computers.
Create a seating chart for students. Use an app like TeacherKit or Scholastics
Class Set-Up web tool.

1. Welcome students to technology class. Review class rules and procedures

referencing the posters. Post the posters where they are visible to the
students.
Tip: Make sure to continue to draw students attention to the posters in the
coming months so that they will naturally start to reference them on their
own.
2. Model how students will access the class webpage, go to the Brainpop Jr.
website and find the video. Students will take the easy quiz.
3. Dismiss students to their assigned seats. Assist them in navigating them to
the video. If students do not score a 4 or better, have them re-watch the
video and redo the quiz. Some students may need assistance with
vocabulary or review. Partner students who are having difficulty passing the
quiz.
Option: Students raise their hands when they finish the quiz, record their
score and give the quiz at a later date.
4. For early finishers, have students click on Write about this and type their
answers to the question. If allowed, have students print response and keep
as a portfolio piece.
5. Before students leave class, make sure any browser windows are closed,
equipment is put away and chairs pushed in to get ready for others to use
the computers. This helps develop important habits when sharing
computers with other students and saves time.

student computers.
Print out Creating a Picture Checklist. Laminate for students to reuse or pair
up students to save on paper.

1. Model how students will access the link Drawing link on the Student
Learning Links webpage.

special tools that help them draw the picture. Let them share their
experiences.
3. Explain that making pictures online is called digital storytelling, just pictures
in a book tell a story, so do pictures online. Let them know that today they
will create a picture all about themselves! Everything they include has to give
us a clue about themselves.
4. Invite students to help create a picture about themselves. See Creating a
Picture Checklist and include those things in the picture.
5. Show students the checklist and make sure they know where to find all the
tools.
6. Dismiss students to work on their picture.
7. Students can print out their picture to create a class book, save their picture
to gather in a digital book or share with a partner.
