Dear parents, guardians, and students,

I am delighted to invite your child to join the Idlehurst Elementary School Chorus! Chorus will be open to any
student in 4th and 5th grade. Chorus students will have the opportunity to sing with others, be part of a team, try out for a
solo, make new friends, dance, perform, and have fun. They will also have the opportunity to perform at the winter gala,
winter concert, and spring concert. Chorus students will be exposed to a variety of choral literature ranging from classical
to contemporary pop. Students in this ensemble will learn about the components of good singing techniques such as
proper posture, breathing, vowel formation, volume, and vocal health. Being part of an ensemble gives children a sense
of pride, and provides them with the skills they need to work as part of a team. Music stimulates academic strength in all
areas and enriches a childs experiences at school and throughout life.

In order to achieve excellence, all students must come to rehearsal with a positive attitude and a willingness to
learn and grown as musicians. Chorus will meet every Monday and Thursday, 11:25-12:00. If your child signs up for
chorus they must come to every rehearsal unless they are absent from school or I have previously spoken with their
classroom teacher. It is expected that by joining chorus your child will attend both concerts during the year as well as the
Winter Gala/Parade in downtown Somersworth. Your child can be in chorus and band at the same time as they do not
interfere with each other.

If your son or daughter is interested in joining chorus, I ask that both parent and child sign and date the paper
and return it to me by Friday, September 22rd. Chorus will be starting on Monday, September 25th. Please do not
hesitate to call or email me with any questions you might have about the chorus program.
