AN OLYMPIC LESSON IN MOTIVATION

In this article we have some excellent examples of motivation.

This tells us about the successful people in the world in different
fields and how the others view point towards them. The common
people can only see the outcomes or achievements of the
victorious person but they don’t realize the scrupulous and
rigorous work put in to attain that fame. The article suggests that
anyone who is expert in any field must have started learning at
some point i.e. he was also an initiator. The example of
Olympians is given who represent the country by showing their
talent in different sports and make the country proud.

They never gave up trying, the motivation played

essential role in keep them going. The sky is the limit for these
people and they even cross that. The self motivation helped them
to keep trying for achieving their dream as it’s a very long
process and grab the right opportunities that came across as
‘opportunities knock very soft at the door’. These people had the
fire inside them to cross all the hurdles that came in between
them and their goals, and this spark is possessed by everyone
just there is a need to bring it out with the help of motivation.

Another example is given of the book authors. Most of the

people wonder looking at any book that they themselves can
never write a book as they feel it’s too much of a laborious task
and requires a lot of knowledge. But in fact it’s not like that
actually the authors who possess the ideas have to provide just
the words for their book so it is not as difficult as we see it.

In the end we come to a conclusion that everyone surely wants to

be successful in life but they need to have a clear vision for
meeting it and also need to have faith in oneself. So the crux is
that a motivation in one’s life plays an important role in meeting
their goals and with that positive attitude anything can be
achieved.

BUDDY’S SNACK COMPANY

CASE STUDY
SWOT analysis

STRENGTH
• The company has a lot of experience as it was started in
1951, so more than 50 years since it had been operational.

• Three generations had been in this family business i.e.

Buddy, Buddy Jr. and Mark who had completed his MBA in
marketing. They were certainly aware of the pros and cons
of their business by now.

• Lynda Lewis a very laborious employee of the company.

Gets herself fully involved in the work. Doesn’t hesitate in
seeking advice. She is always cheerful and focuses on giving
more than 100% output.

• Micheal Benjamin is satisfied with the company he is working

with.

• Kyle Sherbo had shown tremendous performance in the last

three years by being among the top salespersons in the
company. He had a good rapport with Buddy Jr. and was
helpful to Mark when he joined the business. Kyle possessed
the quality of being promoted as sales manager.

WEAKNESS
• The company is not able to maintain or grow its market
share. The employees show resistance for attending the
coaching sessions.

• Lynda Lewis though a good performer but failed to perform

due to slowdown in the market, finds it cumbersome to
attend the coaching sessions on weekends because of her
other obligations.

• Micheal Benjamin a lethargic worker of the company so

certainly feels more of a burden to attend the coaching
sessions as a result most likely would hinder his output. He
feels his hard work is not appraised. He is required to sell
twice to what he did so it’s all messed up.

• Kyle Sherbo felt the pinch of not being promoted, so as a

result showed a fall in his output. He lost faith in the
company’s working.

OPPORTUNITIES
• The company has the opportunity to come out of the bad
times the company is facing by implementing more of smart
work. It has potential employees, the requirement is
providing them with proper motivation. Mark has the
opportunity to give his theoretical study a practical shape.
The employees output can be judged very well during these
times.

• Lynda Lewis has the opportunity to prove that she can

manage her time well by attending the coaching sessions
attentively and showing desired results.
• Micheal Benjamin who is casual about his job has a tough
going as he has to work almost double just to maintain his
output, so he should be self motivated and has the
opportunity to prove that he can cope up and improve his
image.

• Kyle Sherbo who was shattered because his effort was

neglected. He has the opportunity to prove the company
that he is self motivated and capable enough to help the
company to come out of the bad times and also make the
company realize that they took a wrong decision for not
choosing him as the sales manager.

THREATS
• The competitors like Fritolays specially and other are the
threats of the company which are giving a cut throat
competition to the company and making hard for its survival.

• The employees of the company do not agree with the policy

of compulsory coaching sessions for the poor performance of
the employees. As such there are possibilities that
employees can leave or not perform well even in future
because of grudge, which is a threat for the company.

• Lynda Lewis who though a very motivated employee but due

this pressure of attending the sessions she might feel too
burdened and hence company has the threat to lose her.
