Outplacement Services are in Great Demand as Redundancy Support Becomes the Big

Issue for Corporate and Not-For-Profit Sectors

With local government and the corporate sector making redundancies across the UK
and the support for Regional Development Agencies dwindling due to swingeing cu
ts, employers and employees could be forgiven for thinking they have nowhere to
turn for outplacement and redundancy support but one Nottingham company has seen
it all before...
Nottingham, UK, August 05, 2010 -- The Changekey Partnership have worked stoical
ly over the last 18 years to provide support to HR managers and those faced with
impending redundancy. Jeff Priestley, senior partner at The Changekey Partnersh
ip recently commented: "We've seen a distinctive rise in enquiries from both hig
hly skilled employees in niche management positions and also HR managers faced w
ith aiding the transition of large groups of staff, from positions they've likel
y held for years, to the prospect of returning to the job market."
Historically the cost of outplacement services has been prohibitive to many comp
anies, allowing them to offer support only to senior management and executives a
nd often the reduction of personnel staff within companies has meant that the re
sources required to assist the leaver are not available. Even the task of prepar
ing a simple CV, which by nature is very time consuming, adds an additional burd
en to the often untrained and overworked staff, resulting in increased workload
and associated stress. Itâ s at this time that professional, cost effective help is
required.
Jeff Priestley further commented: "The consequences to organisations that don't
support those being made redundant can be dire. Let's face it, those employees w
ho keep their jobs 'the survivors' are often expected to pick up extra work with
out additional pay and I often hear comments from these employees such as 'I may
have may have survived but do they really care?' which can lead to the loss of
highly skilled and essential staff at a critical time. He further stated: "Emplo
yers need to listen and take action early on in the redundancy cycle to prevent
this lowering of moral - since recent research has shown that employers, who hel
p their redundant staff get back into employment as soon as possible, maintain a
positive company image, whilst demonstrating to the remaining workforce that th
ey care." Jeff asserted: "A solution to maintaining positive survivor morale is
to do as much as practically possible to help redundant staff in their transitio
n into new employment, resulting in those remaining feeling confident and more s
ecure."
