Class: III
Structures and vocabulary: can I have? a/an; some vs any; newspaper; chef; thief;
mushroom; bread; grapes
Ss learn to distinguish between any and some by filling in sentences with the two
words
Procedure:
2. Pre-listening: brainstorming: T writes Italy on the board and Ss try to come up with words
related to this country. Ss write in their notebooks. T then asks Ss to look at page 46 and say
which words from the board they expect to find in the text. Ss answer and T informs Ss about
the new lesson 5 minutes
3. While-listening: T asks Ss to pay attention to the text they will hear and tick the words
they hear in their brainstorming map. T plays the audio and Ss listen. T then checks. T then
plays again note before Ss look at exercise 2, page 46. Ss listen and then they fill in the two
sentences. T checks 5 minutes
4. Post-listening: Several Ss will be asked to read the text. T asks about unknown words and
invites Ss to look at exercise 3, page 46. Ss write the words in their notebooks with their
translation.
Ss also work on exercise 4: T explains the task and then checks (T will also ask for the
references in the text). Ss then fill in the sentences from exercise 5 with the new words. T
checks 10 minutes
6. Presentation: Before doing exercise 2, T explains the difference in meaning and use of the
words any and some.
Ss look at the sentences from exercise 2, page 48 and T asks Ss if they can understand the use
of the two words any and some. Then T explains:
We use some in positive sentences: There is some ice in the fridge./ We have got some new
books./I have got some new clothes.
We use any in negative sentences and in most questions: There isnt any ice in the fridge./
Have you got any orange juice?/ I havent got any orange juice.
Ss write in their notebooks and then do exercise 2, page 48 in their notebooks. T checks and
gives feedback 10-12 minutes.
7. Semi-controlled practice: T explains the task for exercise 3, page 48 and Ss work in pairs.
T offers help and guidance 7-8 minutes.
