1. Introduction

1.1 Background
Employees are the core part of an organization. They are hired to perform specific duties which are
packaged into a job. It is important for an organization to maintain their employees satisfaction
level because it is related with the companys productivity and overall efficiency.

Employee satisfaction is a state where individuals are not only happy with their current profiles but
also look forward towards a long term association with the organization. No individual wants to
quit his/her job after every six months. But the moment monotony creeps in, people start looking
for better opportunities.

Similarly, Waves company also uses various methods to minimize the job monotony of the
employees. They care for their staff because they are the working backbone of the company.

1.2 Introduction of the organization

The organization was initially started as a desktop publishing office under the name New Waves
Company. It was established in 1990 A.D. with an objective to give language classes, tuitions and
training on computers. It had an initial investment of Rs. 10,00,000. There were four founding
members of the company: Mr. Suman Shrestha, Mr. Prabin Prasad Pradhan, Mr. Sujeet Kumar
Shrestha and Mr. Nirish Krishna Shrestha. It only started officially started dealing and trading

1.3 Current situation of the organization

The organization currently deals with supplying computer hardware and software to government as
well as private organizations. They deal in Information and communication Technology which
includes renowned brands of PCs, notebooks, network equipments and accessories backed up with
essential software. They also deal in trading medical equipments, software and accessories. Power
alternatives that includes solar panels and batteries. The company currently staffs around 20
employees and is located at Lainchaur opposite to British Council.

1.4 Issue/Problem of the report

While preparing this report, I had to face many difficulties. Some of them are listed below:

Due to the limited time schedule and tough college routine, there occurred many problems
when preparing the report.
The organization had a tight working schedule.
The organization members were hesitant to share the information they know, which made
it difficult to collect the necessary information required for the report.

1.5 Objective of the report

The objectives of this report are as follows:

i. To study the employees overall satisfaction while working in the company

ii. To find the pros and cons of working in the company
iii. To find various factors affecting their overall satisfaction

1
1.6 Project framework
The overall report is separated into three segments.

1.6.1 Introduction
In this segment I have tried to give brief introduction of the organization and their employees. This
segment is used to describe the current situation of the organization. Here the objective of the
report, issue related with the report, data and tools and techniques used to create report are stated.

1.6.2 Analysis
In this segment analysis of the data that were collected are done. Here the data are analyzed using
various analytical tools like mean, correlation, regression are used. These tools are used to analyze
problems and issues seen in the organization and to analyze possible solution.

After analyzing problems and solution this segment is also use report the findings.

1.6.3 Discussion and Conclusion

This segment is used to discuss about the possible solution of the problems and draw conclusion
accordingly. Here recommendations are also given for some problems solution.

1.7 Data and Information

The data and information gathered in this report are through:

1.7.1 Primary Data

Primary data are those data which are collected first hand for the purpose of the research or report.
These types of data can focus on both qualitative and quantitative data. It is more accurate and up
to date. But these data are hard and expensive to collect. The accuracy of data depends on the
respondents.

In this report I have used interview and questionnaire to collect primary data related to employees
satisfaction of the organization and other data related to the report.

In questionnaire there were all together 19 questions relating to employees overall satisfaction, the
positive and negative aspects of working in the company. The questionnaire was handed to 19
employees of the organization.

Another source of primary data used in this report was interview. From the interview process datas
related to the organization were collected. For this report the general manager Mr. Sunil Shrestha
of the Waves Company was consulted. He told me about the history and background of the
company.

1.8 Tools for data collection

To fulfill the objective of the report, quantitative methodology was implemented. The methods
helped to gather information about the employees satisfaction.

The various methods of data gathering involve the use of appropriate recording forms. These are
called tools or instruments of data collection. The consist of

Questionnaires
Interview

2
The tools of data collection translate the research objectives into specific questions / items, the
responses to which will provide the data required to achieve the research objectives. Information
gathered though the tools provide descriptions of characteristics of the organization. It is useful for
measuring various variables pertaining to the study. The variables and their interrelationships are
analyzed for testing the hypothesis or for exploring the content areas set by the research objectives.

1.8.1 Questionnaires
A questionnaire is a research instrument consisting of a series of questions and other prompts for
the purpose of gathering information from respondents. Although they are often designed for
statistical analysis of the responses, this is not always the case.

Questionnaires have advantages over some other types of surveys in that they are cheap, do not
require as much effort from the questioner as verbal or telephone surveys, and often have
standardized answers that make it simple to compile data.

However, such standardized answers may frustrate users. Questionnaires are also sharply limited
by the fact that respondents must be able to read the questions and respond to them. Thus, for some
demographic groups conducting a survey by questionnaire may not be concrete.

For this I developed a questionnaire with 19 questions which consisted of rating scale questions
and multiple choice. The format of my questionnaire is in the appendices section of this report.

1.8.2 Interview:
An interview is a conversation where questions are asked and answers are given. In common
parlance, the word "interview" refers to a one-on-one conversation with one person acting in the
role of the interviewer and the other in the role of the interviewee. The interviewer asks questions,
the interviewee responds, with participants taking turns talking. Interviews usually involve a
transfer of information from interviewee to interviewer, which is usually the primary purpose of the
interview.

For this report I sat down with general manager of the organization and ask series of questions.
These questions were focused to get information about the organizations history, background and
methods used for motivating the employees.

1.9 Techniques of project report analysis

Data analysis is an important stage of research process. Its main purpose is to change the data from
an unprocessed form to an understandable presentation. This is basically, transformation of data to
information. The different data analysis techniques used are:

1.9.1 Quantitative technique

Quantitative technique is the process of analyzing the data with the help of mathematical and
statistical tools and techniques. It is the mathematical operations to investigate the properties of
data. Quantitative technique includes statistical analysis, bar diagrams, pie charts, line charts,
tables etc.

1.9.2 Qualitative technique

Qualitative data consists of words and observations, not numbers. They are the theoretical data that
requires creativity, discipline and systematic approach. There are various method of analyze

3
qualitative data. Some of them are more general, while others are more specific for certain type of
data. But they all are based on textual analysis.

From the above pie chart we can see that out of 19 employees, only 5 were females which
represents 74% and 14 were male which represents 26% of the total employees. It seems that the
male employees are higher than the female employees in Waves company.

As we can observe, the company has a high male to female employees. The company is willing to
employ females as much as males in their technical team but because there seems to be low female
applicants who apply for the job, there is male dominancy in the company.

2.1.2 Age of the employees

age of 21 30 years and 31 - 40 years, both having an equal number of employees 8. Only 1
employee is between the age of 16 20 year whereas 2 employees are more than 41 years.

3. Conclusion and Recommendation
3.1 Conclusion
In conclusion, the study showed the following points:

Most of the respondents are male in comparison to female.

The highest age group respondents involve were 21-30 and 31-40.
Most of the employees working had worked there for more than 5 years.
Employees were somewhat satisfied with their salary but would be more motivated if the
salary was increased.
The factor which the employees liked the most are time flexibility, location and one selfs
work respectively.
Respondents are satisfied with the availability of office equipments and supplies.
Not all of the employees were satisfied with the companys awareness of their needs.
Most of the respondents preferred financial incentives as their motivational factor.

In general, employees working are satisfied at their current job. Employees seem to enjoy their
working environment and co-workers. They seem to have healthy communications among each
other and have good interactions but needs to work on communication with the upper management.

There are some fields where the company can improve to gain better feedbacks from the employees
like involving in more recreational and refreshment activities, providing better opportunities for the
staffs to develop professionally or help student employees advance in education.

For the smooth day to day operation at Waves Company, employees positive satisfaction is to be
credited.

3.2 Recommendation
After the overall study of the employees satisfaction in the company. I realized there are some
ways that can be adopted by the company to increase their employees satisfaction level and
efficiency. Some of the recommendations to the organization based on the study and report are
discussed below:

The company could use some additional incentive based motivation techniques to better
motivate the employees. As most of the employees stated salary increment, the company
should consider about it.
The company could provide the facility of bonus system for overtime.
Organization should give more importance to communication between employees & the
upper management which would gain more coordination.
The company could also involve in more recreational & refreshment activities so as to
reduce job monotony for the employees of the company.
