Individual Assignment Management Brief


Assignment 2 20% of semester marks
(Sunday 17th April, 2016)

Assignment Objectives
On completing this assignment, you will:
o Develop an appreciation of the business/project management/collaboration information systems
that are available for a defined market segment,
o Develop critical thinking skills, through identifying, analysing, evaluating and developing
arguments which illustrate thoughtful appreciation of business need for a technology and
information management system,
o Know how to search and locate literature (e.g. journal articles, trade magazines, product
reviews, etc.) using library and internet resources, and
o Analyse information found in the discovered literature and synthesise new knowledge into a
written report.

Assignment Brief
Scenario: You have completed the investigation into the information systems when Jim Coffee (the
firms chief construction executive and a member of the senior leadership team) says that following the
excitement generated at Board level by your previous management report he wants you to prepare
another management report for the senior leadership teams next meeting. Some members of the
senior leadership team have expressed interest in understanding more detail about particular
information systems.
Write a management report of around 2000 words explaining (with reference to the course
brief): (a) the business value proposition for the selected information system, (b) a detailed
explanation of the information systems features and functions and how they align to the
firms business functional areas/operations, and (c) how the information system will assist
the firms project managers in managing projects.

Remember the audience is the senior (executive) leadership team who are NOT technology literate so
you should use appropriate business language and refrain from using project management,
construction, or technical jargon.

Submission Requirements
o Ensure that the font size and style you choose can be easily read. It is recommended that if you
use Arial as your font, the minimum font size should be 10 point. If using Times New Roman the
minimum font size should be 12 point. Type your work using 1 line spacing.
o Author date (Harvard) referencing to be provided for all submissions as appropriate.
o The Report should be submitted as a pdf file. Include page numbers and student name in the
footer.
o Please ensure that the unit name and number and your name and student identification
number are stated clearly on the front cover.
o Include an assignment cover sheet.
