TheEuropeanCreditsTransferSystem(ECTS)guaranteesthemutualacademicrecognition
ofstudiescarriedout.Suchrecognitionisensuredby:
Outline,priortogoingabroad,ofaprogrammeofstudiesbilaterallyapprovedbythe
homeinstitutionandhostinstitution,includingtheECTScreditsthatwillbegiven
afterrequirementsaremet(examination,assessment,etc.)
Establishmentofagradetranscriptclearlypresentingthelearningoutcomes
achieved,transferablefromoneinstitutiontoanother.Itindicatesforeachcourse
takennotonlytheECTScredits,butalsothegradesobtainedaccordingtothelocal
gradingsystemandinaccordancewiththeECTSgradingscale.Thecombinationof
thesetwosetsofgradesandECTSprovidesaqualitativeandquantitativesummary
oftheworkaccomplished.
TheECTSgradingscalefacilitatestheinterpretationofgradesobtainedinanother
institutionunderadifferentgradingsystem.Itdoesnotreplacethelocalgradingsystem.Its
useremainswithinthediscretionofthehighereducationinstitutionsconcerned.Subjects
taughtattheUniversityofParisVIIaregradedona0to20pointscale,witheachsubject
assignedacoefficientofimportanceinagivencurriculum.Thepassinggradeforasingle
subjectisusually10/20.Gradeshigherthan16/20areseldomawarded.
Astudentisconsideredtohavepassedtheyear(admis)whenthecombinedaverage
(moyennegnrale)ofgradesis10oraboveforeachsemester.
