Teaching Scheme Examination Scheme Lectures 3 Hours/Week Theory paper 50 Marks Practical 2 Hours/Week NOTE Only FIRST ANGLE METHODS OF PROJECTIONS ARE TO BE USED IN ALL THE UNITS. SECTION I UNIT I Fundamental of Engineering Drawing: Introduction to drawing instruments & their uses, Engg lettering, Drawing sheets- Layout of drawing sheets, sizes of drawing sheets, different types of lines & their applications in mechanical Engg Drawing, Dimensioning linear, angular, aligned system, unidirectional system, parallel dimensioning, chain dimensioning, location dimension and size dimension. Projections of Point and Line Theory of projections. Projections of points only in first & third quadrant with all possible positions. Projections of lines (by first angle method only), lines inclined to one reference plane, lines inclined to horizontal plane, frontal plane &both i.e. oblique lines, on reference & auxiliary planes.True length of a line by rotation of view & rotation of plane methods, Traces of lines (to locate only HT & VT only). Projections of Planes Projection of planes on reference & auxiliary planes ( by first angle method only), Projection of planes (triangle-all cases, Quadrilateral, pentagon, hexagon, circle) by reference & auxiliary planes methods, inclination of the plane with HP, VP & oblique planes, True shape of a plane surface. Angle made by the plane with principal reference planes(no combination of planes & no HT, VT of plane). UNIT III Projections of Solids Introduction to solids. Types of solids, Projections of solids inclined to one & both the reference planes, projections of cube, right regular prisms, right regular pyramids, right circular cylinder, right circular cone, tetrahedron (no combination of solids & their frustum of solids. Projection of solids resting on H.P. only). UNIT IV Engineering Curves [ 15 Marks ] Conic section - Ellipse, Parabola, Hyperbola by focus diretrix & rectangle method, Helix on cone and cylinderInvolute, Cycloid, Archimedean Spiral .[Construction of normal and tangent is not expected in examination]. Development of Solids: Development of prism( max 6 sides), Development of cone ( no combination of solids). UNIT V Orthographic views [ 20 Marks ] orthographic projections of given pictorial view by First angle method only, Study of different sections, Sectional orthographic projections only full section. UNIT VI Isometric Projections [ 20 Marks ] Introduction of Isometric view with the example of cube, Isometric axes, scale, Isometric view & Isometric projection, construction of Isometric, Non-Isometric lines, angles, circle, sphere, arc etc. Drawing isometric view of simple solids & objects, Dimensioning only length, width & height of isometric views.
