CYCLE TEST-I
Subject Name : ME 2251, Heat and Mass Transfer Class: II Yr / IV Sem
Date : Marks: 20
Answer all Questions.
Part A (2x5=10)
1. Define the term heat transfer.
2. What is conduction?
3. What is convection?
4. What is radiation?
5. State Fouriers law of heat conduction.
Part B (1x10=10)
6. A furnace wall is made up of three layers, inside layer with thermal conductivity 8.5 W/mK, the
middle layer with conductivity 0.25 W/mK, the outer layer with conductivity 0.08 W/mK.The
respective thickness of the inner, middle and outer layers are 25cm, 5 cm, and 3 cm respectively.
The inside and outside wall temperatures are 600C and 50C respectively. Draw the equivalent
electrical circuit for conduction of heat through the wall and find thermal resistance, heat flow per
square metre and interface temperature.
