6. a) Derive the performance equation for PFR. 5 Marks


b) The elementary gas phase reaction A3 3A is carried out in a flow reactor. The specific 6 Marks
reaction rate @ 50C is 10-4/ min and the activation energy is 85 KJ/mol. Pure A3 enters the
reactor at 10 atm and 127C, and a molar flow rate of 2.5 mol/min. Calculate the reactor
volume and space time to achieve 90% conversion in (i) CSTR and (ii) PFR.
