Activating and testing Satellite Abis http://127.0.0.1:43231/NED/NED?service=printview&library=a25003...

Activating and testing Satellite Abis

The procedure is basically the same as for normal terrestrial BSC - BTS circuits. These instructions only show
actions which are needed for satellite circuits.
Satellite Abis is an application software product. It is not included in the standard BSC software.
Note also that it is recommended to use the default values in GSM (BSC and MSC) system timers. Lower
values than the default ones may be inadequate for handling the delay of the satellite connection.
For deactivation instructions, see Deactivating and testing Satellite Abis.
For an overview, see Satellite Abis.

Activating Satellite Abis

You can control the use of the optional Satellite Abis functionality BCF by BCF with D-channel settings
(D-channel parameter sets).
The PRFILE parameter SATELL_ABIS_IN_USE can be used to toggle the Satellite Abis on or off as needed. If
BCF use D-channel parameter set 0, it is defined as satellite Abis if SATELL_ABIS_IN_USE is TRUE (setting
ZWOC:10,31,FF; and checking ZWOI:10;).
This is used for old satellite configurations after upgrade and is used for old satellite Abis configurations after
update from older BSC software release. You can define terrestial Abis connection with parameter set value 8
in this case. Preferred way to set satellite configuration for new satellite Abis connection is to set right
D-channel parameter set on D-channel creation.
You can control the use of the optional Satellite Abis functionality PCU by PCU configuring PCU Abis
connection type. All PCUs in one pool have same PCU Abis connection type.
BSC increases T3101 timer value automatically for satellite Abis connections according to the selected
D-channel parameter set. Timer value is increased by 2 x one way delay in the link i.e. either 2*280 = 560ms or
2*420 = 840 ms. T3101 supervises SDCCH establishment procedure on CCCH.

Steps

1. Modify PCU Abis connection Type.

1 Modify PCU Abis connection Type.

Modify PCU Abis connection type to support satellite Abis:
ESN:BCSU=<bcsu number>,PCU=<pcu index>:AIT=S;
Or Modify PCU pool Abis connection type to support satellite Abis:
ESN:PSEI=<packet service entity identifier>:AIT=S;
Note that the PCU pooling case whole PCU pool shall be modified for satellite Abis
Check PCU Abis connection type:
ESP:BCSU=<bcsu number>,PCU=<pcu index>;
Or check PCU pool Abis connection type:
ESP:PSEI=<packet service entity identifier>;
Note that for EGPRS, create DAP and attach DAP related to satellite Abis BCF to satellite Abis PCU or PCU pool

2. Create OM U and te lecommunication signalling channels for BCF and TRXs

2 Create OM U and telecommunication signalling channe ls for BCF and TRXs

Create D-channel and set parameter set according Abis connection:
ZDSE:<D-channel link set name>:
<unit type>, <unit index>:
<service access point identifier>,
<terminal end point identifier>,
<bit rate>, <PCM-TSL>, <SUB-TSL>;
[D-Channel type | N def],
<D-channel parameter set>;

D-channel parameter sets:

0 terrestrial (if the PRFILE parameter SATELL_ABIS_IN_USE is TRUE, parameter set 0 is overwritten with parameter set 1)
1 satellite Abis (delay supported up to 280 ms)
2 terrestrial BTSplus
3 satellite BTSplus
7 enhanced satellite Abis (enhanced delay supported up to 420 ms)
8 terrestrial Abis
Note that to Use same D-channel parameter set for all Abis signalling channels of one BCF and TRX of the BCF
Note that for BCFs using D-channel parameter set 0, satellite Abis can be activated setting SATELL_ABIS_IN_USE is TRUE (setting
ZWOC:10,31,FF; and checking ZWOI:10;). This is used for old satellite Abis configurations after update from older BSC software release.
Preferred way to set satellite configuration for new satellite Abis connection is to set right D-channel parameter set on D-channel creation
Check signalling channel parameter set:
ZDSB: NAME=<D-channel link set name>;

3. Activ ate Acoustic Echo Cancellation (WOA).

3 Activate Acoustic Echo Cancellation (WOA).

ZWOA:2,371,A;
Note that the Acoustic Echo Cancellation is not recommended, if there is configured BCF with enhanced satellite delay. Acoustic Echo Cancellation
is not recommended, if there is configured BCF with terrestrial Abis connection and BCF with satellite Abis connection to one BSC.

4. Check that the activation succeeded (WOS).

4 Check that the activ ation succeede d (WOS).

ZWOS:2,371;

5. Configure sufficient SDCCH capacity.

5 Configure sufficient SDCCH capacity.

a) In TRX1, two time slots are defined for signalling: a combined BCCH and SDCCH/8 (six others are defined as TCHs). Use the following
commands to configure SDCCH capacity.
Lock the BTS (EQS).
ZEQS:BTS=<nbr>:L;
Lock TRX1 (ERS).
ZERS:BTS=<nbr>,TRX=<trx1>:L;
Modify the time slots (ERM).
ZERM:BTS=<nbr>,TRX=<trx1>:CH0=MBCCHC;
ZERM:BTS=<nbr>,TRX=<trx1>:CH1=SDCCH;
b) In other TRXs, one time slot is defined for signalling (SDCCH/8, preferably timeslot zero) and seven others are defined as TCHs. Use
the following commands.
Configure SDCCH capacity (ERS, ERM).
ZERS:BTS=<nbr>,TRX=<trx>:L;
ZERM:BTS=<nbr>,TRX=<trx>:CH0=SDCCH;
Unlock all locked TRXs (ERS).
ZERS:BTS=<nbr>,TRX=<trx>:U;
Unlock the BTS (EQS).
ZEQS:BTS=<nbr>:U;

Other parameters which minimise the SDCCH reservations:

number of slots spread trans (SLO) = 32
max number of retransmission (RET) = 2
max number of repetition (NY1) = 5
To set these parameters, use the command
ZEQM:BTS=<nbr>:SLO=32,RET=2,NY1=5;
Here <nbr> identifies the remote BTS.

6. Configure the TCSM.

6 Configure the TCSM.

You can configure the TCSM either locally or remotely. Remote access is recommended. The following instructions give the commands for remote
access.
There are no firmware requirements.

Steps

1. Create the remote session (DDT).

1 Create the remote session (DDT).

ZDDT:TCSM,<nbr>;

Username EXPERT
Password SYSTEM
Here <nbr> is the address of the transcoder.

2. Disable TRAU frame alignment in the TCSM (ZRS).

2 Disable TRAU frame alignment in the TCSM (ZRS).

ZRS:ALL:OFF

Do you want configuration changes to be

permanent by saving them in flash memory?
Please answer (Y/N) Y
The TCSM is activated by enabling the parameter on/off per BSC. In the TCSM the time alignment can be turned off from the command
menu. Because of the fixed MS timers, there may be re-attempts in the signalling, causing limitations to the capacity of these cells.

3. Enable acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) (RU).

3 Enable acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) (RU).

ZRU:ALL: <codec_type>=ON;

Please, confirm (Y/N) Y

Do you want configuration changes to be
permanent by saving them in flash memory?
Please answer (Y/N) Y
Here <codec> can be either FR, EFR, HR or AMR.
Note that the command depends on the type of speech coding used.
Note that the Acoustic Echo Cancellation is not recommended, if there is configured BCF with enhanced satellite delay. Acoustic Echo
Cancellation is not recommended, if there is configured BCF with terrestrial Abis connection and BCF with satellite Abis connection to one
BSC.

4. Set the AEC tail delay correctly (RU).

4 Set the AEC tail delay correctly (RU).

ZRU:ALL:DELAY=<delay>;

Please, confirm (Y/N) Y

Do you want configuration changes to be permanent
by saving them in flash memory? Please answer (Y/N) Y
Normally either 520 ms, 540 ms or 560 ms are suitable values for <delay>. You can check this with a listening test.
Note that the Acoustic Echo Cancellation is not recommended:
if there is configured BCF with enhanced satellite delay
if there is configured BCF with terrestrial Abis connection and BCF with satellite Abis connection to one BSC.

5. Che ck that all selections are correct (RC).

5 Check that all selections are correct (RC).

ZRC:<PCM_index>:10;
<PCM_index> is the actual PCM used
