& OWK delineating the potential zones of
phosphorite. Samples were coll-
ected for analysing P 2 O5 . The
OWK shales host the phosphatic
bands. The phosphatic bands are
mainly associated with the Khaki-
grade shale at the interface of
Khaki-green & variegated shale.
Maximum seven thin phosphatic
bands in Kalina Konda & five
thin phosphatic bands in
Veduru Konda hill were
delineated. About 5.35 cm thick
phosphatic bands are recorded.
The lower phosphatic bands are
hard & compact fine grained &
Jet black in colour but the upper
interface band between the Khaki-
green & variegated shale is often
greyish white to greyish black in
colour & comparatively has more
aerial exposure. Out of 220
samples, 84 samples have indicated
P 2 O 5 content ranging from 5.02-
19.08% & from 55 trench samples
18 samples showed P2O 5 content
ranging from 5.6-15.1%. The
presence of fluorapatite in phos-
phatic bands is also confirmed.
Large scale mapping reveals that
phosphatic bands are sheet like
bodies having a maximum
thickness upto 35 cm.

mapped area exposed mostly
dolomite, massive/brecciated
phosphatic chert, nodular ferruginous
chert (associated with stromatolytic
dolomite) and shale. The P2O5
content ranging from 10% to
30%. During mapping 10
phosphatic bodies were delineated.
Ten mineralised zones (two in
Tauro block & eight in Surajpura
block) were demarcated. The total
cumulative strike length of ore body
was found to be about 1699 m and
width varies from 1 m to 10 m.
The maximum exposed thickness
was recorded at 5.69 m. The
mineralisation is of massive &
brecciated nature. The stromato-
litic cherty dolomite also shows
low phosphatic contents in Tauro
block. The banded brecciated chert
associated with iron horizon act as
marker horizon for high grade phos-
phorite zone. The analytical result
receipt so far indicates P2O5 content
varying from 5.85%-34.26%. The
cumulative strike length and grade of
the phosphorite ore bodies indicate
that the area is potential for
phosphorite.

from 0.1 to 27.44% with a resource
of nearly 36,500 tonnes of
