Introduction

An ENIGMA has diverse meanings. A mystery or an enigma can also mean “something that
resists or defies explanation” or “the truth that can never be fully understood or revealed”.

We present here, some of the most popular and thrilling enigmas from around the world, which
have captured the imagination of mankind and will continue to, in the years to come. We have
chosen this topic to increase the awareness of the unexplained happenings around the world,
because everything does not have a basis in fact and sometimes there is no practical
explanation for every happening. Though such discoveries and happenings are well
documented, most historians would like to sweep these disturbing anomalies under the
proverbial rug. Many scientists too do not accept the practical explanation of these matters n
many paranormal and peculiar theories have come forth.

So let’s explore lost civilizations, ancient ruins, sacred writings, unexplained artifacts, science
mysteries and “alternate theories”

The Bermuda Triangle:


The Devil’s Triangle, is a region of the northwestern Atlantic Ocean in which a number of aircraft
and surface vessels have disappeared. Some people have claimed that these disappearances fall
beyond the boundaries of human error or acts of nature. Though a substantial documentation
exists showing numerous incidents to have been inaccurately reported, the number and nature of
disappearances remain inexplicable despite considerable investigation.

Origin:
The Bermuda Triangle is located off the Southeastern coast of the United States in the Atlantic
Ocean, with its apexes in the vicinities of Bermuda, Miami, Florida, and San Juan, Puerto Rico. It
covers roughly 500,000 square miles. This area is one of the most heavily-sailed shipping lanes in
the world, with ships crossing through it daily for ports in the American, European and the
Caribbean Islands. Cruise ships are also plentiful, and pleasure craft regularly go back and forth
between Florida and the islands. It is also a heavily flown route for commercial and private aircraft
heading towards Florida, the Caribbean and South America from points north.The area may have
been named after its Bermuda apex since Bermuda was once known as the "Isle of Devils."
Treacherous reefs that have ensnared ships sailing too close to its shores surround Bermuda, and
there are hundreds of shipwrecks in the waters that surround it.

Incidents:

Flight 19
On the 5th December 1945 at 14.10hrs, Flight 19, took off from NAS Fort Lauderdale, Florida on a
training mission. The leader, Lt. Charles Taylor was a qualified flight instructor, and the flight was
comprised of 5 TBM Avenger aircraft with a total of 14 crew. The training mission consisted of
flying east for 56 miles to Hens and Chickens Shoals , south of Grand Bahamas to conduct practice
low level bombing before heading 67 miles further east, 73 miles north, then 120 miles back to
base.

The first part of the mission went without incident and they conducted their bombing mission at
Hens and Chickens Shoals at 14.30hrs. At 15.10hrs they headed in a north-westerly direction. At
15.45hrs, Lt. Robert Cox, a senior flight instructor, in the control room, heard Flight 19 over the
training channel and it sounded like they were having difficulties.
Lt. Taylor informed Lt. Cox that both his compasses were out and that he was lost. He said that he
was trying to get back to Fort Lauderdale and that he believed he was now over the Florida Keys
but didn't know how to get back to base. Lt. Cox asked what their present altitude was so he
could come south to meet them but Lt. Taylor said "I know where I am at now. I'm at 2,300 feet.
Don't come after me." Lt. Taylor was convinced that he was over the Florida Keys heading north
into the Gulf of Mexico. This was the last radio signal received from the Flight-19. Fuel was now
getting low and he decided to continue east until they sighted land or had to ditch in the sea.
Radio communication with Flight 19 became fainter until nothing more was heard from them.
Flight 19 alone covered the American Legion Magazine in April 1962. It was claimed that the flight
leader had been heard saying "We are entering white water, nothing seems right. We don't know
where we are, the water is green, not white." It was also claimed that officials at the Navy board
of inquiry stated that the planes "flew off to Mars." This was the first article to connect the
supernatural to Flight 19.A full scale search was launched which lasted until December 10th 1945
and which covered all possible areas where Flight 19 could have ditched but nothing was ever
found, they seem to have vanished of the face of the earth. A Martin Mariner search plane with a
crew of 13 which took off to take part in the search also went missing. No trace of the plane or its
crew was ever found.

SS Marine Sulphur Queen

The S.S. Marine Sulphur Queen was a tanker was bound for Norfolk, Virginia from Beaumont,
Texas carrying 15,000 tons of molten sulphur in heated tanks. Its last communication took place
on Feb. 3, 1963, when its captain radioed a routine position report. The message placed her near
Key West in the Florida Straits. She never reached Virginia. Three days after the position report,
Coast Guard searchers found a single life jacket floating 40 miles southwest of the tanker's last
known position. It's likely that leaking sulphur may have caused an explosion. Escaping sulphur
gas could have poisoned the crew and prevented them from sending a distress call. Officers on a
Honduran banana boat reported to the Coast Guard that their freighter ran into a strong, acrid
odor 15 miles off Cape San Antonia, the western tip of Cuba, just before dawn on February 3.The
area was known for being infested with sharks and barracuda, so it wasn't surprising that no
bodies were ever found. The U.S. Coast Guard History Archive lists the following items eventually
found from the Sulphur Queen: two pieces of board bearing the name of the ship, eight life
jackets (some with rips believed caused by sharks teeth), five life rings, one shirt, one piece of oar,
one oil can, one gasoline can, one cone buoy and one fog horn

Centuries of Strange happenings:


The Bermuda Triangle has a long history of weird happenings. Let's take a look at some of them.
1492 - Christopher Columbus reports strange lights and strange compass readings.
1609 - The Sea Venture wrecks during the first attempt to colonize Bermuda.
1814 - The USS Epervier and her crew disappear while carrying the peace treaty to end the war
between America and the North African Barbary States.
1855 - The schooner James B. Chester is found floating in the ocean. The crew is missing but
there is no sign of struggle, and the lifeboats are still in place.
1918 - One of the largest ships of the time -- the 19,000-ton Navy supply ship USS Cyclops, and its
crew of 300, vanishes without a trace.
1941 - The USS Proteus and the USS Nereus vanish, just as their sister ship the USS Cyclops had
previously done along the same route.
1945 - Flight 19, five USN Avenger aircraft disappear after reporting compass malfunctions. A
search-and-rescue plane sent to find them is never seen again.
1971 - Sting-27, a USAF Phantom jet, vanishes without a trace. Official reports indicate it may
have suffered an impact, but the details are never revealed.
1976 - The Sylvia L. Ossa, a 590-foot ore carrier with a crew of 37 disappears 140 miles from
Bermuda.
1991 - The pilot of a Grumman Cougar jet makes a routine radio request to increase altitude.
During the ascent, the aircraft fades from radar and vanishes.
1999 - The cargo freighter Genesis radios a nearby vessel, indicating a problem with the bilge
pump. Despite extensive searches by the Coast Guard, the ship and crew are never seen or heard
from again.

THEORIES:
Let’s take a look at some of the theories that are floating around :
Scientific theories

Methane Gas Hydrates


Scientists at Cardiff University have discovered the presence of large concentrations of methane
gas trapped in the ocean floor. This gas is due to dying and decomposing sea organisms. The
sediment contains bacteria that produce methane, which accumulates as super concentrated
methane ice, called gas hydrates. The layer of ice traps the methane gas. Landslides that often
occur along the North American continental shelf to the north of the Bermuda Triangle could
bring down boulders and debris, rupturing the layer of gas hydrate beneath the sea floor and
freeing the trapped gas. Within seconds of a methane gas pocket rupturing, the gas surges up
and erupts on the surface without warning. If a ship is in the area of the blowout, the water
beneath it would suddenly become much less dense. The vessel could sink and sediment could
quickly cover it as it settles onto the sea floor. Even planes flying overhead could catch fire during
such a blowout.

Weather Patterns and Topography


The area is subject to violent and unexpected storms and weather changes. These short but
intense storms can build up quickly, dissipate quickly, and go undetected by satellite surveillance.
Waterspouts that could easily destroy a passing plane or ship are also not uncommon. A
waterspout is simply a tornado at sea that pulls water from the ocean surface thousands of feet
into the sky. Scientists have also spotted freak waves up to 100 feet high. The underwater
topography of the area may also be a factor. It goes from a gently sloping continental shelf to an
extremely deep drop-off. In fact, some of the deepest trenches in the world are found in the area
of the Bermuda Triangle. Ships or planes that sink into these deep trenches will probably never be
found. The Gulf Stream ocean current flows through the Triangle after leaving the Gulf of
Mexico.The Gulf Stream has been reported to move faster than 5 mph in some areas – more than
fast enough to throw sailors hundreds of miles off course if they don't compensate correctly for
the current. It can also quickly erase any evidence of a disaster.

Magnetic Abnormalities and The Fog


"The Fog: A Never Before Published Theory of the Bermuda Triangle Phenomenon," by Rob
MacGregor and Bruce Gernon include reports of an "electronic fog" that both men experienced
while flying in the Bermuda Triangle. Furthermore, Gernon believes that the electronic fog has
time travel qualities. Reportedly, many other pilots have had similar experiences in the area.
Gernon believes that powerful electromagnetic storms from within the Earth break through the
surface and come into the atmosphere where they soon disappear, leaving electronic fog.
According to Gernon, a Swedish scientist has found that magnetism is weaker in the triangle than
anywhere else on Earth, which may be why the fog happens more there than anywhere else.

Non Scientific Theories :

The Lost City of Atlantis


Some people believe that the Bermuda Triangle area is home to the lost city of Atlantis and
remnants of its advanced technologies. According to legend and speculation, the city of Atlantis
relied on the power of special energy crystals that were extremely powerful. The speculation is
that these energy crystals are in an altered state of some kind and send out rays of energy that
either confuse navigational instruments or disintegrate vehicles all together.

Compass variations
Compass problems are one of the cited phrases in many Triangle incidents. Some have theorized
the possibility of unusual local magnetic anomalies in the area, however these have not been
shown to exist. It should also be remembered that compasses have natural magnetic variations in
relation to the Magnetic poles. For example, in the United States the only places where magnetic
(compass) north and geographic (true) north are exactly the same are on a line running from
Wisconsin to the Gulf of Mexico. Navigators have known this for centuries. But the public may not
be as informed and think there is something mysterious about the compass "changing" across an
area as large as the Triangle, which it naturally will.

Paranormal exisitence
The Bermuda Triangle is, reportedly, an area with one of the highest incidences of UFO sightings.
So, it's no wonder that alien abductions have been a popular explanation for disappearances in
the Bermuda Triangle. Some believe that aliens use the Bermuda Triangle as a collection station of
sorts. When planes and ships disappear, it is because aliens have taken them away for thorough
examination. But abductions aren't the only theory; some also have theorized that the Bermuda
Triangle is a sort of portal to other planets or acts as a magnetic field that allows people (and their
modes of transport) to travel to other dimensions.

Our personal opinion:

Most rational explanations for the incidents in the Bermuda Triangle, including the explanations
given by the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard, include human error and environmental effects. The area
is one of the most highly trafficked for amateur pilots and sailors, so more traffic leads to more
accidents and disappearances. Harsh weather conditions at sea forces the floating evidences to
disappear deep into the sea.

Conclusion:

The US Navy does not believe the Bermuda Triangle exists. Since there were no living witnesses
to the sinking or crash, the exact cause of the loss and the location of the lost ships or aircrafts
are unknown.

Nostradamus
Origin

Michel de Nostradamus, the author of the famous Centuries, gifted French physician and
prophet, was an unusual man for his time. He was a practicing physician, astronomer and
astrologer who lived in the mid 16th century he was born on 14 December 1503 in Saint-Rémy-
de-Provence in the south of France, who turned his hand to prophecy later in life. His prophecies
have a magical quality for those who study them: they are muddled and obscure before the
predicted event, but become crystal clear after the event has occurred. In the end he predicted
his own death.

His Work

Nostradamus wrote messages from the past to the future in the form of short poems consisting
of four lines each called Quatrains. In his lifetime Nostradamus completed a total of 942
quatrains, which he organized into groups of 100 quatrains called Centuries.
His followers say he predicted the French Revolution, the birth and rise to power of Hitler, and
the assassination of John F. Kennedy. He also predicted other events, such as the Great Fire of
London (1666) and the exile of Napoleon to Alba. Recently the writings of Nostradamus have
been shown to reveal the destruction of the space shuttle Challenger to the destruction, the
death of Lady Diana and the destruction of the Twin Towers on 9/11/01.
Nostradamus began to write his prophetic verses in the city of Salon, in 1554
Many biographers have noted that Nostradamus also raised eyebrows by maintaining that the
earth circled the sun and not the other way around. He upheld the Copernican theory that the
world was round and circled around the sun more than 100 years before Galileo was prosecuted
for the same belief.
Nostradamus made over one thousand predictions and historians say that over half of them
have already come true.
If his predictions of the past are accurate, then his predictions for the future may also come
true.

Predictions

Throughout Nostradamus' quatrains he speaks of three powerful and tyrannical leaders that he
calls anti-Christs. He said they would lead their people through reigns of terror after first
seducing them with promises of greatness Napoleon is thought to have been the first of these
anti-Christ’s. Of Napoleon’s rise to power and years as Emperor Nostradamus wrote:

The first anti-Christ

An Emperor shall be born near Italy.


Who shall cost the Empire dear,
they shall say, with what people he keeps company
He shall be found less a Prince than a butcher.

Napoleon, who was considered a butcher even by his supporters, certainly cost the Empire
dearly in both manpower and political
strength

From a simple soldier he will rise to the empire,


from the short robe he will attain the long.
Great swarms of bees shall arise.

After becoming Emperor from simple solider, Napoleon adopted the beehive as his imperial
crest (Ward 297). Some scholars say that Nostradamus was referring to Napoleon's destruction
of Moscow

The captive prince, conquered, is sent to Elba;


He will sail across the Gulf of Genoa to Marseilles.
By a great effort of the foreign forces he is overcome,
Though he escaped the fire, his bees yield blood by the barrel.

Napoleon was exiled to the small island of Elba but escaped for 100 days. After a defeat at
Waterloo he relinquished all power for exile on tiny St. Helena

The second anti-Christ

The second anti-Christ Nostradamus wrote about was "a man stained with murder...the great
enemy of the human race...one who was worse than any who had gone before...bloody and
inhuman Experts are in agreement that the sixteenth century prophet was referring to Adolf
Hitler

Out of the deepest part of the west of Europe,


From poor people a young child shall be born,
Who with his tongue shall seduce many people,
His fame shall increase in the Eastern Kingdom.

Adolf Hitler, born in Austria of poor parents, with his knowledge of mob psychology and powers
of speech, was successful in seducing many people , even in the Eastern Empire of Japan
(Roberts 88). In some quatrains Nostradamus refers to Hitler as the child or sometimes captain
of Germany. Here are two examples:

In the following verse, some experts say that Nostradamus actually referred to Hitler by name
but missed by one letter.
Beasts wild with hunger will cross the rivers
The greater part of the battlefield will be against Hister.

Finally, Nostradamus sums up Hitler's life and even predicts the fact that his death in Berlin in
1945 would never be satisfactorily
confirmed:

Near the Rhine from the Austrian mountains


Will be born a great man of the people, come too late.
A man who will defend Poland and Hungary
And whose fate will never be certain

The third anti-Christ

Nostradamus speaks of a third anti-Christ who is more hideous than all the others combined.
Some say Sadaam Hussein, the dictator from Iraq, could be this evil tyrant. He says

Out of the country of Greater Arabia


Shall be born a strong master of Mohammed...
He will enter Europe wearing a blue turban.
He will be the terror of mankind.
Never more horror.

Here, Nostradamus says that a man from Greater Arabia will lead his forces on an invasion
through Europe. This invasion will start a third world war that will be far worse than all the other
wars put together

He also predicted death of Henry. The Death of Henry II from a jousting accident is one of
Nostradamus most famous fulfilled prophecies.

Here is the quatrain:

The young lion will overcome the older one,


On the field of combat in a single battle;
He will pierce his eyes through a golden cage,
Two wounds made one, then he dies a cruel death.

In June 1559, Henry II ignored all warnings that Nostradamus gave him and participated in a
jousting tournament against the Comte de Montgomery During the final bout of fighting in the
tournament Montgomery failed to lower his lance in time. . Both splinters from the lance
penetrated his brain. Henry lived for ten days in agony, thus fulfilling the Nostradamus prophecy
that he would die a cruel death.

The French Revolution

The French Revolution would simply serve to enhance Nostradamus reputation as a seer further
because he described The French Revolution written over 200 years earlier in his book The
centuries

Before the war comes,


the great wall will fall,
The King will be executed, his death coming too soon will be lamented.
(The guards) will swim in blood,
Near the River Seine the soil will be bloodied.

On July 14th, 1789 the people stormed the walls of the Bastille, the prison that stood as a
symbol to the detested monarchy. This was a precursor to the revolution that shook France,
and to the rise, and fall, of the guillotine,(a machine for beheading people) that stood on the
banks of the River Seine

This is the quatrain that is largely agreed upon as being a terrifying prediction of the 9/11
terrorist attacks. The years are a bit off but that is not unusual for Nostradamus whose long
term astrological predictions are always a bit off

In the year 1999, in the seventh month,


from the sky will come the great King of Terror,
bringing back to life the great King of the Mongols.
Before and after, Mars to reign by good fortune

Although the date of the event appears to be two years too early but nostradamus wrote in
anagrams date 1999 is nothing more than a numeric anagram. If we reverse the order of the
“1”s and “9”s, we arrive at the date 9-11-1.

Earth-shaking fire from the center of the earth.


will cause the towers around the New City to shake,
Two great rocks for a long time will make war,
And then Arethusa (a ship) will color a new river red.

Although this is a weaker quatrain, there is a mention of the New City, which may be New York
and “the towers” which may allude to the twin towers. Arethusa is thought to be an anagram
for an event that we have yet to see that is related to terrorist attacks and the war in Iraq.

Conclusion

Was Nostradamus a fraud or a prophet? There are some who say that the seeming accuracy of
his quatrains are a result of their facile interpretations. Still, more than four hundred books and
essays about his prophecies have been published since his death in 1566, along with a great
number of articles and other commentaries, in numerous languages .Even skeptics pay careful
attention to Nostradamus' predictions of the three anti-Christ’s. The quatrains consist of a
mystic vision that was capable of scanning events that would take place over thousands of
years. The quatrains are in essence missives from a prophet who was directly warning both you
and me of the apocalypse to come.

What does the future hold? Was Nostradamus a whack-job or a true prophet? That is for you to
decide.

History Regarding its Origin

Atlantis (in Greek, Ἀτλαντὶς νῆσος, "island of Atlas") is the subject of a legend about an
advanced island civilization that was destroyed or lost. Plato's dialogues Timaeus and Critias,
written in 360 BC, contain the earliest known references to Atlantis in which characters say it
was destroyed by an earthquake or a tsunami about 9,000 years before the time in which Plato
wrote. Plato introduced Atlantis in Timaeus:. According to Plato, the story originated with
Ancient Egyptian priests. These accounts are the only known written records which refer
specifcally to a lost civilization called Atlantis.

In Plato's account, Atlantis, lying "beyond the Pillars of Hercules", was a naval power that
conquered many parts of Western Europe and Africa 9,000 years before the time of Solon, or
approximately 9600 BC. After a failed attempt to invade Athens, Atlantis sank into the ocean "in
a single day and night of misfortune".

PLATO

As a story embedded in Plato's dialogues, Atlantis is generally seen as a myth created by Plato
to illustrate his political theories. Although the function of the story of Atlantis seems clear to
most scholars, they dispute whether and how much Plato's account was inspired by older
traditions Many people believe the tale to be complete fiction, the creation of a philosopher's
imagination used to illustrate an argument. Others believe that the story was inspired by
catastrophic events which may have destroyed the Minoan civilization on Crete and Thera.
Some scholars argue Plato drew upon memories of past events such as the Thera eruption or
the Trojan War, while others insist that he took inspiration from contemporary events like the
destruction of Helike in 373 BC or the failed Athenian invasion of Sicily in 415–413 BC. Still others
maintain that the story is an accurate representation of a long lost and almost completely forgotten
land

Following is an extract from “Timaeus:”

For it is related in our records how once upon a time your State stayed the course of a mighty host, which,
starting from a distant point in the Atlantic ocean, was insolently advancing to attack the whole of Europe, and
Asia to boot. For the ocean there was at that time navigable; for in front of the mouth which you Greeks call, as
you say, 'the pillars of Heracles,' there lay an island which was larger than Libya and Asia together; and it was
possible for the travelers of that time to cross from it to the other islands, and from the islands to the whole of
the continent over against them which encompasses that veritable ocean. For all that we have here, lying within
the mouth of which we speak, is evidently a haven having a narrow entrance; but that yonder is a real ocean,
and the land surrounding it may most rightly be called, in the fullest and truest sense, a continent. Now in this
island of Atlantis there existed a confederation of kings, of great and marvelous power, which held sway over all
the island, and over many other islands also and parts of the continent

The story is about the conflict between the ancient Athenians and the Atlanteans 9000 years
before Plato's time. Knowledge of the distant past apparently forgotten to the Athenians of
Plato's day, the story of Atlantis was conveyed to Solon by Egyptian priests. Solon passed the
tale to Dropides, the great-grandfather of Critias. Critias learned of it from his grandfather also
named Critias, son of Dropides.

So we have seen the history of how Atlantis came to be known to mankind. Now the details
about this ancient civilization will be discussed along with the theories regarding its existence.

The Story of Atlantis and its People

Who were the Atlanteans?

So who were the Atlanteans and how did they live? The following information has been
gathered from various sources.

The original Atlanteans were of extra-terrestrial origin and came to earth over 50 thousand
years ago. They were of human shape, but not modern earth humans as we are. They were very
tall and fair skinned and probably originated from the Lyrian star system. They are also known
as the Elohim or Annunaki and their story is hidden in the texts of Genesis. They had life spans of
around 800 years and are known in some texts as 'the tall ones'.

Most all ancient civilizations believed in the Titans, the race of giant humans that inhabited
Earth long ago. Different races knew them by different names. These 7 to 12 foot humanoids
were thought to be legendary until the excavation of over a dozen skeletons 8 to 12 feet tall,
around the world, shocked archaeologists. The Spanish Conquistadors left diaries of wild blond-
haired, blue eyed 8 to 12 foot high men running around in the Andes during the conquest of the
Incas.

Weather Control

Among the accomplishments of the Atlanteans, for example, was 'perfect' wather control. Now
the average immediate notion is of abundant fields of waving grain in endless summer
alongside the most beautiful of beaches. They had that, and it bored them. The Atlanteans had
come into the physical world essentially for the stimulation. They loved storms. Whole areas of
their land were given over, like national parks, to violent displays of atmospheric turbulence.
They had the ability to play with nature

Crystals

The Atlanteans used crystals quite extensively, and mis-used them to such a degree that they
eventually led to the catastrophe which caused Atlantis to disappear into the ocean.

The Atlanteans used the knowledge of the crystal refraction, amplification and storage. It is
known that a beam of light directed intensely and focused specifically on certain series of facets
in a gem will, when it exits from the reflective plane of the gem, be amplified rather than
diminished. And further, these amplified energies were broken down into a wide and
sophisticated spectrum

Extracting this and that and other things from the same basic substance, they used certain
divisions of the energy for growing things. Other phases of spectrum for disassembling
molecule structures, and yet other combinations of these strata for building, assembling
structures, as in chains; or producing matter, and that sort. Their basic technology is still
available in the earth plane in various locations.

Crystals have the ability to transfer energy, to retain it, to maintain its intensity, to focus and
transmit it over great distance to similar receivers as are equal or comparable to the transmitter.
Thus, from one pyramid to another the Atlanteans, in a sense, transmitted energy. That when
the face of the earth was directed toward a certain point, one pyramid would function to
intensify and transmit energies to other pyramids which would then act as receiving devices and
would disperse energy as it was needed. The opposite would be true, when that pyramid was at
unfocusable point to their celestial alignment the others would transmit to those.

All these various crystals received their power from a variety of sources, including the Sun, the

It may have been just a story made up to suit Plato’s purposes i.e to emphasize his point or to
reinforce his theory. Also it is impossible to believe that such incredible technology can exist

history. There has been no hard evidence to support the existence of Atlantis and up till now
we have found no actual ruins of Atlantis.

Comparison to Thera and Minoan Civilization

There are some compelling similarites between the destruction of Thera and the destruction of
Atlantis.....

The island of Thera, a volcanic island, was destroyed around 1500 BC by an explosion
which caused more than half of the island to sink into the sea.

Artifacts found on the island indicate a sophisticated culture, probably part of the
Minoan Civilization.
There is evidence pointing to trade between the Minoans and Egyptians. The Egyptians
would certainly have been aware of the destruction or at least the tremedous damage done to
one of their trading partners.
Plato's date of 9000 years ago should really have been 900 years ago: somewhere
along the line either Solon or Plato made a mistake. If the story was 900 years ago it would
place Atlantis in the time frame of the Minoan civilization on Crete and Thera. In Timaeus the
priest tells Solon that ancient Athens and Atlantis preceeded Egypt by a thousand years. Egypt
however existed and was known to have existed since long before 1500 BC, the time of Crete
Atlantis

A pyramid explored by Dr Ray Brown on the sea floor off the Bahamas in 1970. Brown was

metallic instruments, and a statue holding a "mysterious" crystal containing miniature pyramids.
The metal devices and crystals were taken to Florida for analysis at a university there. What was

with buildings made of extremely strong concrete and plastics. He said "the remains of streets
suggests the use of monorails for transportation". He also brought up a statue.

Crop circles are patterns created by the flattening of crops such as wheat, barley, rapeseed
(also called "canola"), rye, corn, linseed and soy. The term was first used by researcher Colin
Andrews to describe simple circles he was researching. Although since 1990 the circles have
evolved into complex geometries, the term "circle" has stuck. Various hypotheses have been
offered to explain their formation, ranging from the naturalistic to the paranormal. Naturalistic
explanations include man-made hoaxes or geological anomalies, while paranormal explanations
include formation by UFOs. Many circles are known to be man-made,[6][7][8] such as those
created by Doug Bower, Dave Chorley Bower and Chorley were awarded a Nobel prize in 1992
for their crop circle hoaxing.

Origin

The earliest recorded image resembling a crop circle is depicted in a 17th century English
woodcut called the Mowing-Devil. The image depicts the Devil with a scythe mowing (cutting)[10]
a circular design in a field of oats. The pamphlet containing the image states that the farmer,
disgusted at the wage his mower was demanding for his work, insisted that he would rather

All over the world. In England, USA, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Italy, Denmark,
Finland, Russia, Israel, Australia, India, Japan, Canada.
England however is the 'cradle' of crop circles: the place where most patterns appear each year.

Crop circles are not a modern phenomenon:


They are mentioned in academic texts of the late 17th Century, and almost 200 cases-some with
eyewitness accounts- have been reported prior to 1970. Since then some eighty eyewitnesses
from as far away as British Columbia have reported crop circles forming in under twenty
seconds; cases are often accompanied by sightings of incandescent or brightly-coloured balls of
light, shafts of light or structured flying craft.

Serious attention was given to the simple circles in 1980 in southern England. The designs
appeared primarily as simple circles, circle with rings, and variations on the Celtic cross up into
the mid-1980s. Then they developed straight lines and created pictograms, not unlike
petroglyphs. After 1990 the designs developed exponentially in complexity, and today it is not
unusual to come across designs mimicking computer fractals and elements that relate to fourth
dimensional quantum physics. Their sizes have also increased, some occupying areas as large as
200,000 sq feet. To date there have been over 10,000 reported and documented crop circles
throughout the world, with some 90% emerging from southern England. While many still go
unreported each year, the emegence of the phenomenon in the world media and the internet
has allowed more information to be lodged.

A group of crop circle makers founded by John Lundberg, have demonstrated that making what
self-appointed cereologist experts state are "unfakeable" crop circles is possible. On more than
one occasion such cereologists have claimed that a crop circle was genuine when the people
making the circle had previously been filmed making the circle.

Gábor Takács and Róbert Dallos, both then 17, were the first people to be legally charged with
creating a crop circle.

In 1991, two men from Southampton, England announced that they had conceived the idea as a
prank at a pub near Winchester, Hampshire during an evening in 1976. Inspired by the 1966 Tully
Saucer Nests, Doug Bower and Dave Chorley made their crop circles using planks, rope, hats and
wire as their only tools: using a four-foot-long plank attached to a rope, they easily created
circles eight feet in diameter. The two men were able to make a 40-foot (12 m) circle in 15
minutes.

In 2002, Discovery Channel commissioned five aeronautics and astronautics students from MIT
to create crop circles of their own. Discovery's production team consulted with crop circle
researcher Nancy Talbott, who provided them with three attributes that she believed set "real"
crop circles apart from known man-made circles, such as those created by Doug Bower and
Dave Chorley.
These criteria were:
1. Elongated apical plant stem nodes
2. Expulsion cavities in the plant stems
3. The presence of 10-50 micrometer diameter magnetized iron spheres in the soils, distributed
linearly

Over the course of a single night the team was able to create a stereotypical "man-made" circle
that they then attempted to enhance using the three criteria. The team used lengths of rope to
plot their design and trampled the wheat down in a spiral pattern using lengths of wooden
board attached to loops of rope. To meet criterion 2, they constructed a portable microwave
emitter, using it to superheat the moisture inside the corn stalks until it burst out as steam. To
meet criterion 3, they built a device - dubbed the "Flammschmeisser" - that sprayed iron
particles through a heated ring. However, the device proved to be too time consuming to use,
and they were forced to finish the task by using a pyrotechnic charge to distribute the iron
around the circle. The circle was later analyzed by graduate students from MIT, who declared it
to be "on a par with any of the documented cases". Their conclusion was later questioned by

Talbott also expressed concerns that the iron particles were not distributed laterally.
Furthermore, she felt that the team's use of night vision headsets and other technologically

created by a force seemingly at odds with modern science. Central to the hoax argument is that
a physical object is required to flatten the crop to the ground, resulting in the breaking of the
plant stems. In genuine formations the stems are not broken but bent (left), normally about an
inch off the ground at the plant's first node. The plants appear to be subjected to a short and
intense burst of heat which softens the stems to drop just above the ground at 90�, where
they reharden into their new and very permanent position without damaging the plants. Plant
biologists are baffled by this phenomenon and farmers, who know how the land ticks, are
baffled by this. It is the singlemost method of identifying the real phenomenon. Research and
laboratory tests suggest that microwave or ultrasound may be the only method capable of
producing such an effect.

by NASA as artificial in origin, with a harmonic component in the infrasonic range.

The detection of electromagnetism also differentiates genuine formations from fakes. This
naturally-occuring energy is known to exist at ancient sites such as stone circles, long barrows,
tumuli, dolmens and menhirs, and in churches and cathedrals which were built upon these sites.
Crop circles, sacred sites and other places of worship are also found upon intersecting points
along the Earth's invisible energy grid, and the size and shape of a crop circle is typically
determined by the area of these 'node' points on the Earth's surface. The frequencies of this
energy are associated with changes in brainwave patterns and affect the body's biophysical
rhythm, so it is not unusual to find reports of people experiencing heightened states of
awareness and healings in crop circles- a situation also common to sacred sites. People may also
experience dizziness, disorientation and nausea- effects caused by prolonged exposure to
infrasound or microwave frequencies.

Biophysical evidence includes plants' expanded epidermal walls, and drastically extended node
bends in fresh formations (normalright, crop circle far right); also observed are distortions of
seed embryos, and the creation of expulsion cavities in the plants as if they have been heated
from the inside. In genuine formations there is a disruption of the plant's crystalline structure,
as these microscope photos demonstrate. Yet in all cases, the plants are not damaged and will
continue to grow and ripen if left untouched. This would not be possible had they been
trampled by force.

They are not perfectly round but slightly elliptical (a hoax, requiring a fixed central rope, cannot
achieve this adequately). Their edges are crisply defined from the flattened crop as if drawn
with a compass and incised with surgical precision. Hoaxes, by comparison, bear a stylistic
resemblance to tuffs of greasy, uncombed hair- and, of course, all their plants have been
trampled, bruised and crushed.

Other anomalies indicate an increase infra red output within and around a new formation,
indicating that both the heat content of the plants and the watershed have been affected.
Evidence even exists of four non-naturally occuring, short-life radioactive isotopes in the soil
inside genuine crop circles (these dissipate after three or four hours); the soil in around them

Mathematically, genuine crop circles encode obscure theorems based on Euclidian geometry as
well as the unalterable principles of sacred geometry. They have the capacity to alter the local
electromagnetic field so that compasses cannot locate north; cameras, cellular phones and
batteries fail to operate, and aircraft equipment fails whilst flying over them. Then there are
levels of background radiation up to 300% above normal, radio frequencies falling dramatically
or rising sharply within their perimeters, animals in local farms avoiding that particular area or
simply acting agitated hours before one materializes, and car batteries in entire villages failling
to operate the morning after one is found nearby. In some of the major events, entire towns are
left without power.

Since genuine formations materialize at crossing points along the Earth's magnetic energy
currents, they are influencing the energy pattern of local phehistoric sites. They reference local
Neolithic sites in size/shape/direction, and are dowsable upon entry, with as many as 150
concentric rings of energy outside their physical perimeter. In fact, a year after they have been
harvested and the field ploughed and re-sown, the energy imprint of the formations will still be
dowsed, long after their physical traces have vanished.

This area of research has allowed for the possibility of crop circles as a healing force, and they
are already being successfully employed in radionics, flower essences and resonance therapy
around the world, both for people and environments in distress.

At Stonehenge in 1996, a pilot reported seeing nothing while flying above the monument, yet 15
minutes later this huge 900 ft formation resembling the Julia Set computer fractal, and
comprising 149 meticulously layed circles, lay beside the heavily guarded monument. It took a
team of 11- including myself- no less than five hours just to survey the formation.

However the answers have always been with us. The only barrier which stands between us and
the truth of the issue is the reluctance to take the wisdom and understandings of the ancients

Personal Opinion

I definitely rule out aliens, I think that's absurd. Natural forces? I very much doubt it, the
patterns are too geometric for that. Hoaxes? Yes, I think so. We know that some crop circles are
man made, some of the hoaxers have come clean and demonstrated for the TV cameras how
they did it. This doesn't prove that ALL crop circles are man made of course, but it's the only
suggestion that makes any sense to me. That is providing that you regard grown men stomping
through corn fields at night as sensible.

Conclusion

It is interesting that today we find ourselves at a very important point in our evolution. Since
that day when we decided to abandon our faith in the universal way and follow the mechanical
codes of science our consciousness has shifted from one of reverence for all things sacred to
the worship of abstract materialism. Consequently, our change of attitude has endangered our
living, breathing celestial sphere and it's perhaps why crop circles, with their foundations based
squarely upon sacred geometry, have chosen to appear at this particular point in time,
reminding us that if only we observe the fundamental laws of the universe we may still be in
time to discover the secrets of universal harmony and salvage our very own symbol of eternal
life, the Earth.

THE PHILADELPHIA EXPERIMENT

THE IDEA:

The Philadelphia Experiment, otherwise known as Project Rainbow, has been a subject of long
controversy and debate. It was an attempt by the Navy to create a ship that could not be
detected by magnetic mines and-or radar. It is an alleged United States Navy experiment done on
October 28, 1943. According to legend, the destroyer USS Eldridge was made invisible,
dematerialized, and teleported from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Norfolk, Virginia, and back
again to the Philadelphia Naval Yard. The experiment allegedly had such terrible side effects, such
as making sailors invisible and causing them to go mad, that the Navy quit exploring this exciting
new technology.

Several different and sometimes contradictory versions of this experiment have circulated over
the years. The experiment has been claimed to have been conducted by Dr. Franklin Reno (or
Franklin Rinehart) as a military application of a Unified Field Theory, a term coined by Einstein. The
Unified Field Theory aims to describe the interrelated nature of the forces that comprise
electromagnetic radiation and gravity; although to date no single theory has emerged with a
viable mathematical expression.

According to the accounts it was thought possible to use some version of this theory to bend light
around an object so that it became essentially invisible. Those supporting the theory claim that
the Navy regarded this of obvious military value and sponsored the experiment.
Another version of this story however says that those researchers were preparing magnetic and
gravitational measurements of the seafloor to detect anomalies, supposedly based on Einstein's
attempts to understand gravity. They claim that there were also related secret experiments in
Nazi Germany to find antigravity, allegedly lead by SS-Obergruppenführer Hans Kammler.

THE DETAILS OF THE EXPERIMENT:

Results of The Philadelphia Experiment became far different and much more dangerous than the
Navy ever expected. Although the story itself seems too bizarre to be true, far too many
coincidences have occurred for it to not be based upon some small iota of truth.

The technical data that has also been presented upon the subject hold far too much credence to
be ignored. Many of the stories associated with this infamous experiment are wild: whispers of
men 'freezing' in time for months, rumors of men traveling through time, and horror stories of
men becoming stuck in bulkheads or even the floor of the ship itself.

In the 1930's Nikola Tesla got involved with a group with was experimenting with moving through
the Time/Space continuum. In the early 1930's, the University of Chicago investigated the
possibility of invisibility through the use of electricity.

In 1939 this project was moved to Princeton's Institute of Advanced Studies. There they were able
to make small objects invisible. They presented this technology to the government.

In 1943 the government conducted a test using domestic animals on a ship. The ship that was
eventually used for the experiment, the USS Eldridge, was commissioned at the New York Navy
Yard on August 27,1943 (Department of the Navy). The animals were placed in metal cages on the
USS Eldridge. The ship became invisible but when it materialized many of the animals were
missing on had radiation and other burn marks on them. Humans were not to be tested. Yet on
August 12, 1943 the USS Eldridge with a full crew aboard reportedly underwent the Philadelphia
Experiment. The men did not know what was to happen. The generators were fired up. The
switches were thrown. The ship disappeared and all seemed well. However, others claim that the
experiment took place on October 28, 1943. Substantial evidence points to the October date as
being more accurate

The Eldridge's war diary reads as such: The Eldridge remained in New York and the Long Island
Sound until September 16, when it left for Bermuda. From September 18 to October 15, it
underwent training and sea trials. On October 18, it left in a convoy for New York and remained
there until November 1. From November 1 to the 2, it went on a convoy to Norfolk and on
November 3 left in a convoy for Casablanca. The Eldridge arrived in Casablanca on November 22
and stayed there until November 29, when it left for New York again in another convoy. The
Eldridge arrived in New York on December 17. From December 17 to December 31, it traveled to
Norfolk with four other ships (Department of the Navy). Although this is not the entire war log, it
is the log of the ship during the suspected time the experiment took place (October 28, as
mentioned above).

CARL ALLEN AND DR. MORRIS JESSUP:

CARL ALLEN

Carlos Miguel Allende, also known as Carl Allen, was an odd man. He was born on May 31, 1925 in a
small town outside of Pennsylvania. On July 14, 1942, Allende joined the Marine Corps and was
discharged on May 21, 1943. He then joined the Merchant Marine and was assigned to the SS
Andrew Furuseth. It was upon this ship that he claimed to see the Eldridge in action. Allende's
story was bizarre; he stated that he had witnessed the Eldridge being transported
instantaneously to Norfolk from Philadelphia and back again in a matter of minutes. Upon
researching the matter further, he learned of extremely odd occurrences associated with the
project and wrote a basic summation of his newly learned knowledge in a letter to Dr. Morris K.
Jessup.

DR. MICHEL K. JESSUP

Dr. Jessup was an astronomer and Allende had been in the audience of one of Dr. Jessup's
lectures. Apparently having some respect for the man, he decided to entrust Dr. Jessup with his
knowledge. The letters were written oddly: with capitalization, punctuation, and underlines
located in various places.

The letters were also written in several colors. In his letters, Allende revealed horrifying details of
the Philadelphia Experiment to Dr. Jessup. Because Dr. Jessup was something of a believer in odd
phenomenon he did not entirely dismiss the ideas presented to him. He wrote back to Allende
and requested new information. The return address upon the letter never existed according to
the mail service, yet Allende still received Dr. Jessup's reply. Allende responded with more
detailed letters but the correspondence eventually discontinued because Dr. Jessup dismissed it
as a hoax.

During the time of Dr. Jessup's and Allende's correspondence, Dr. Jessup had just recently
published his book titled The Case for UFO's. After Allende had written to Dr. Jessup, this book
was sent to the Navy and had hand-written notes inside the book. The notes were in the same
writing as in the letters sent to Dr. Jessup and eventually Dr. Jessup was asked by the Navy to
view the notes.

Dr. Jessup recognized the writing immediately, but he was somewhat astonished, as he had
concluded earlier that it was merely a hoax to trick him. The notes in the book were more detailed
than in the letters and were highly insightful, so Dr. Jessup eventually believed them and
researched the matter. Unfortunately, Dr. Jessup could not find any new leads. Only one
tantalizing clue had shown up.

Two crewmen had been walking in a park when a haggard looking man approached them. The
man told them a fantastic story about an experiment done in which most of the crew died or
suffered terrible side effects. He said that the government then claimed the entire crew was
insane so that when they came forward, they would merely be dismissed as a group of crazy
people who had merely concocted some fantastic story. After the conversation, one crew
member was convinced while the other was not. Eventually, the member that had been
convinced contacted Dr. Jessup and told him the story. Although this was a substantial lead, Dr.
Jessup was not getting very far and he found that his reputation in the scientific community was
worsening. Faced with overwhelming odds, Dr.

Jessup eventually committed suicide on April 20, 1959, believing "another existence of universe
being better than this miserable world." (The Philadelphia Experiment, 79). Some

believe that his suicide was actually an assassination by government agencies to keep the
experiment quiet.

Unfortunately for Dr. Jessup, a major clue in the puzzle turned up shortly after his death. This clue
was a man by the name of Alfred D. Bielek.

BIELEK’S STORY:

Bielek's story is even more bizarre than Allende's. He claims that he was transported in time to
the future and that here in the future he was brainwashed by the Navy. This

brainwashing led him to believe that his name was Alfred Bielek, rather than his true name,
Edward Cameron. Upon discovering his true identity, he tracked down his brother who had also
participated in the experiment. Bielek claims that his brother time traveled to 1983 and lost his
'time-lock'. As a result, his brother aged one year every hour and eventually died. Bielek then
claims that his brother was reborn. Needless to say, only a small group of people believe Bielek
and nearly everyone thinks that his stories are based on some truth, but he's exaggerating the
truth for personal reasons. This popular opinion seems to be reinforced when Bielek starts
remembering things only after having seen the movie "The Philadelphia Experiment". Bielek has a
Ph.D. in Physics, so he does have some technical experience. He is also a retired electrical
engineer with thirty years of experience. Because of his obvious intelligence and skill, he cannot
be discounted entirely. Bielek stated that the technology used in the Philadelphia Experiment was
given to us by aliens. However, the germanium transistor, which was what Bielek said had been
used, was invented by Thomas Henry Moray.

Bielek also stated that Dr. Albert Einstein, Dr. John von Neumann, and Dr. Nikola Tesla were
involved in the project. Some controversy has arisen as to the participation of Tesla because he
died in New York city on January 7, 1943, which was only a two month period of time after the
project took place. Einstein, on the other hand, suggested such a project as this to the Navy on
several occasions. Because of this, he was probably involved in the project. As for von Neumann,
there is no evidence to refute or promote his active participation in the matter. There is evidence
that supports the fact that he later continued on the experiment at a different time.

Various Scientific Theories:

Unified Field Theory:

This theory states that gravity and magnetism are connected, just as mass and energy are
connected through the formula E=mc2. Einstein never solved the Unified Field Theory, but the
very nature of the Philadelphia Experiment suggests otherwise. It is probably that this theory has
become a government secret because it is capable of doing many things, possibly even space
travel without the assistance of rockets.

In a search for actual technical data on the experiment, not much information can be found that
isn't tainted with doubt and speculation. The basic design has two large Tesla coils
(electromagnets) placed on each hull of the ship. The coils are turned on in a special sequence
and their magnetic force is so powerful that they warp gravity itself. Bielek also says that on
August 12 every twenty years, the magnetic field of the Earth reaches a peak and allows the
synchronization between the Tesla coils. The oscillator which Bielek claims to have run the coils in
a special pattern looks more like an Army field kitchen refrigeration unit than anything else. Many
believe that's exactly what it is and Bielek's story is just a hoax. Bielek gave it a technical name
however: the "Zero Time Reference Generator". The oscillators would synchronize with the
adjustable phase angle and created a scalar type wave (Anderson). Several scientists today have
attacked Bielek's testimony on this, as they believe a vector wave would have been more efficient
and probable. Bielek also does not make clear if the power used is AC or DC, pulsed or rotating,
and what the Microwave and Radar frequencies are. In other words, Bielek provides almost no
accurate technical information that can be used.

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging:

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance is also known as Magnetic Resonance Imaging, or MRI. Yet another
scientist named Alexander S. Fraser believes that everyone is wrong about the electromagnetic
qualities of the experiment. He believes that it was never done with electromagnetism, but with
thermal fields. This thermal field could have caused the optical mirage effect which several
witnesses reported. Fraser says that Allende had spoken of a 'scorch' field, fire, and optical
wavering, all of which are products of a thermal field. As for the part about the Eldridge
disappearing in front of their very eyes, certain weather conditions have been known in the ocean
to cause islands to disappear as well. These weather conditions were taking place the day of the
experiment.

Sonic and Ultrasonic Waves:

Yet another scientist believes that sonic and ultrasonic waves were used. The sonic waves could
have been used to create an 'air blanket' around the ship, which is consistent with reports. There
were many experiments done in the 1940's with high power ultrasonic waves, which indicates a
high probability of the Philadelphia Experiment being one of them. Strong sonic fields are known
for having bad side effects upon humans, which is also consistent with reports. The green haze
which was presumably around the ship was caused by "exciting the surrounding sea water with
powerful ultrasonic - 'sonoluminescense' and related phenomena." (Anderson) The ultrasonic
field would have caused the crew to pass out and make the journey from Philadelphia to Norfolk
seem to last only a couple minutes.As Rick Anderson aptly puts it: "An electronics person knows
that, without a DETAILED, comprehensive THEORY behind bench set-up, he is not going to know
how to set up voltages and currents, power levels, frequencies, wave forms, pulse widths or duty
cycles. If there's a chance a circuit won't work, Murphy's Law dictates that it WON'T more often
than not."

If the technicalities of the experiment are vague and a matter of controversy, the results of the
experiment are just as foggy. One fact which everyone seems to agree on is that a field was
extended many yards, up to perhaps one hundred, outside of the ship and into the water
(Anonymous). Everything inside of this sphere was vague in form and the only visible shape was
the hull of the Eldridge in the water. This field seemed to have a greenish color and was misty.
Another fact everyone agrees was that the Eldridge did not function properly after the
experiment and became a source of trouble.

The Eldridge Today:

Some reports say that the ship was dismantled. Others report say ot was taken to Greece and
renamed the Leon. A man named George N. Pantoulas maintains that the was given as military aid
from US to Greece sometime between the late 40's and early 50's where it served in the Greek
navy until 1990 and is sea worthy today. It is purported located in the Suda Bay Naval Station in
Crete. George says he has visited the ship. He has seen strange wires that go nowhere. He says
that men who serve on the ship feel strange energies and have strange illusions.

Introduction
Enigma is defined as a natural event of large magnitude and short duration whose effect is felt to
a wide extent. The Tunguska explosion of 1908 fulfils all parts of the above definition and can be
considered the epitome of a cosmic impact catastrophe. An understanding of this unique event
and its origin could provide insight into large ancient asteroidal or cometary collisions with the
Earth.

Origin
The Tunguska explosion of 1908 has produced enormous speculation and controversy as to its
origin. The Tunguska explosion occurred on the morning of June 30, 1908 at 7:17 A.M. local time in
the area of the Stony Tunguska River. This location is in the central Siberian area of Russia,
approximately 1000 km north of the town of Irkutsk and Lake Baika. The explosion took place in
Podkamennaya Tunguska in the Krasnoyarsk region.

Incident

Although the meteor or comet burst in the air rather than directly hitting the surface, this event is
still referred to as an impact. Estimates of the energy of the blast range from 5 megatons to as
high as 30 megatons of TNT, with 10–15 megatons the most likely.roughly equal to the United
States' Castle Bravo thermonuclear explosion set off in late February 1954, about 1,000 times as
powerful as the bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan and about one third the power of the Tsar
Bomba, the largest nuclear weapon ever detonated. The explosion knocked over an estimated 80
million trees over 2,150 square kilometres (830 square miles). It is estimated that the earthquake
from the blast would have measured 9.0 on the Richter scale, which was not yet developed at the
time. An explosion of this magnitude is capable of destroying a large metropolitan area. This
possibility has helped to spark discussion of asteroid deflection strategies. Although the Tunguska
event is believed to be the largest impact event on land in Earth's recent history, impacts of

Baikal observed a column of bluish light, nearly as bright as the Sun, moving across the sky. About
10 minutes later, there was a flash and a sound similar to artillery fire. Eyewitnesses closer to the
explosion reported the sound source moving east to north. The sounds were accompanied by a
shock wave that knocked people off their feet and broke windows hundreds of miles away. The
majority of eyewitnesses reported only the sounds and the tremors, and not the sighting of the
explosion. Eyewitness accounts differ as to the sequence of events and their overall duration. The
explosion registered on seismic stations across Eurasia. Although the Richter scale was not
developed until 1935, in some places the shock wave would have been equivalent to an
earthquake of 9.0 on the Richter scale. It also produced fluctuations in atmospheric pressure
strong enough to be detected in Great Britain. Over the next few weeks, night skies were aglow
such that one could read in their light, caused by dust suspended in the stratosphere by the
explosion. In the United States, the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory and the Mount Wilson
Observatory observed a decrease in atmospheric transparency that lasted for several months,
also from the suspended dust.

The Guinness Book of World Records (1966 edition) states that because of the rotation of Earth, if
the collision had occurred 4 hours 47 minutes later, it would have completely destroyed the
Imperial Russian capital, Saint Petersburg

Theories

Scientific understanding of the behaviour of meteorites in the Earth's atmosphere was much
sparser during the early decades of the 20th century. Due to this lack of knowledge, as well as a
lack of scientific data about Tunguska due to Soviet secrecy during the Cold War, a great many
other hypotheses for the Tunguska event have sprung up, none of which are accepted by the
scientific community.

Natural H-bomb

In 1989, D'Alessio and Harms suggested that some of the deuterium in a comet entering the
Earth's atmosphere may have undergone a nuclear fusion reaction,leaving a distinctive signature
in the form of carbon-14. They concluded that any release of nuclear energy would have been
almost negligible. Independently, in 1990, César Sirvent proposed that a deuterium comet, i.e., a
comet with an anomalous high concentration of deuterium in its composition, could have
exploded as a natural hydrogen bomb, generating most of the energy released. The sequence
would be first a mechanical or kinetic explosion, triggering a thermonuclear reaction. These
proposals are inconsistent with knowledge both of the composition of comets and of the
temperature and pressure conditions necessary for initiating a nuclear fusion reaction. Studies
have found the concentration of radioactive isotopes in the blast region to be inconsistent with
those expected following a nuclear explosion, fusion or otherwise

Black hole

In 1973, Albert A. Jackson and Michael P. Ryan, physicists at the University of Texas proposed
that the Tunguska event was caused by a "small" (around 1017 kg to 1019 kg) black hole passing
through the Earth. This hypothesis fails, as there was no so-called "exit event" — a second
explosion occurring as the black hole, having tunnelled through the Earth, shot out the other side
on its way back into space, which would have happened in the Southern Ocean, about 10 degrees
west of the Drake Passage — nor were there the continuous seismic disturbances that would
occur along the hole's path through the mantle.

Antimatter

In 1965, Cowan, Atluri, and Libby suggested that the Tunguska event was caused by the
annihilation of a chunk of antimatter falling from space. However, as with the other hypotheses
described in this section, this does not account for the mineral debris left in the area of the
explosion. Furthermore, there is no astronomical evidence for the existence of such chunks of
antimatter in our region of the universe. If such objects existed, they should be constantly
producing energetic gamma rays due to annihilation against the interstellar medium, but such
gamma rays have not been observed

UFO crash

Various UFO aficionados have claimed that the Tunguska event was the result of an exploding
alien spaceship or even an alien weapon going off to "save the Earth from an imminent threat".
These claims appear to originate from a science fiction story penned by Soviet engineer
Alexander Kazantsev in 1946, in which a nuclear-powered Martian spaceship, seeking fresh water
from Lake Baikal, blew up in mid-air. This story was inspired by Kazantsev's visit to Hiroshima in
late 1945.

A Russian scientist has reopened the controversy over a gigantic explosion in 1908 in Siberia with
a claim that he has found debris from an extraterrestrial space vehicle, or UFO, which collided
with a comet.

Researcher Yuri Lavbin has spent 12 years researching the mystery of the "Tunguska meteorite"
and believes he has found the key to one of the great scientific enigmas of the last century,
though many scientists remain skeptical.

Conclusion

A century after the explosion occurred, we are none the wiser. We do not know what it caused
the explosion; we only know that “something” was responsible for a tremendous amount of
destruction. As we know so little about it, Tunguska proves that vast areas can be totally
destroyed by something we have no idea what, and whether or not it will ever happen again.
Worst of all, it left not a single piece of concrete evidence from which we could reconstruct what
had happened. All we got, was a loud bang and an explosion, and lots of fallen trees. It could have
been much worse…or perhaps whatever it was, was much worse than it should have been? We
simply do not know. And that is what is so scary about the Tunguska explosion…hence this has
been an obscure.

EPILOGUE
It cannot be denied that all the enigmas explained till now will always remain
enigmas. Only a substantial effort has been made to explain the mysteries as
explicitly as possible. Events such as the Tunguska incident and the destruction of
Atlantis have occurred too long back in the past to be sure of its happening in the
first place. It cannot be verified. Did the aliens make the crop circles? No proof of
that has been stated. The Philadelphia experiment may remain one of the many
myths of advanced defense technology supposedly hidden by the navy. The idea of
the Fibonacci sequence that nature apparently follows is too obscure. Was
Nostradamous a true astrologer? Or then what exactly was he? The Bermuda
triangle has many wild, unbelievable theories too.
But in spite of all the doubt surrounding the occurring of these
phenomenon, we believe in each and every one of them. YES the Tunguska event
and existence of Atlantis is a possibility. The possibility of aliens communicating via
crop circles is very believable too. The other enigmas mentioned may also be true.
We as humans cannot and must not limit our imagination to narrow
boundaries. “Acceptance of the unknown “must be done. There ARE things way
beyond the understanding of us humans and we need to be humble enough to
accept them. Instead we try to prove them all wrong by confining ourselves to our
so called knowledge and superior thinking. Its time we woke up to unexplainable
phenomenon too.
Having said all this we humbly agree that it is impossible to reach a solid
conclusion. The truth may be lost in the forever shifting sands of time. Mankind
may never find all the answers.
