Check for SBCgross 132.32 kN/m2 < 220.80 kN/m2 Safe

be safe for a wall foundation of 2.0m wide.

Bending moment & Shear force calculation

------------------------------------------------------
CMWSSB Structural Design Calculation for
Treated Water Storage tank
Pump house (Vallam Vadagal)
The base pressure under toe side is maximum during wind load case and under heel side it is maximum under seismic load case.
Hence design values are considered accordingly.
Bending moment in the base raft on the toe side, at the face of wall due to the soil base pressure and downward forces acting above
toe slab
Mtoe = (34.84*0.75*1*0.75*0.5) + ((81.61-34.84)*0.5*0.75*1*(1/3)*0.75)
- (0.75*0.3*1*25*0.75*0.5) - (31.05*0.75*0.5) = 0.43 kNm (Sagging - Bottom tension)

Shear force in the base raft on the toe side, at the face of wall due to the soil base pressure and downward forces acting above toe slab

Vtoe = (34.84*0.75*1) + ((81.61-34.84)*0.5*0.75*1)

- (0.75*0.3*1*25) - (31.05) = 7.00 kN

Bending moment in the base raft on the heel side, at the face of wall due to the soil base pressure and downward forces acting above
heel slab.
Mheel = (119.61*1*1*1*0.5) + ((206.63-119.61)*0.5*1*1*(2/3)*1)
- (1*0.3*1*25*1*0.5) - (68.9000000000001*1*0.5) - (27x1x0.5) = 37.11 kNm (Sagging - Bottom tension)

Shear force in the base raft on the toe side, at the face of wall due to the soil base pressure and downward forces acting above heel slab.

Vheel = (119.61*1*1) + ((206.63-119.61)*0.5*1*1) = 59.72 kN

- (1*0.3*1*25) - (68.9000000000001) - (27)

Check for stability

Since the wall is a part of tank wall, wall is stable against Sliding and Overturning.
Since the invert level of the slab is above the expected water table uplift check is not required as per soil report

CMWSSB Structural Design Calculation for
Treated Water Storage tank
Pump house (Vallam Vadagal)

Design of External / Internal Wall :-

The Wall behaves like a propped cantilever and the wall length (a) to height (b) ratio is more than 3 as per IS 3370 or
1.50 as per Moody's Chart. The predominant bending moment in wall is the vertical bending moment.

The Vertical bending moment is calculated in STAAD for the propped cantilever wall member .

The horizontal moment is calculated as per Moody's chart tables by limiting the a/b ratio to 1.5 along with the applicable
boundary conditons for the tank.

The reinforcement required for horizontal & vertical bending is verified against the minimum reinforcement criteria
as mentioned in code

Design of Compartment Wall :-

The Wall behaves like a propped cantilever and the wall length (a) to height (b) ratio is more than 3 as per IS 3370 or
1.50 as per Moody's Chart. The predominant bending moment in wall is the vertical bending moment.

The Vertical bending moment is calculated in STAAD for the propped cantilever wall member .

The horizontal moment is calculated as per Moody's chart tables by limiting the a/b ratio to 1.5 along with the applicable
boundary conditons for the tank.

The reinforcement required for horizontal & vertical bending is verified against the minimum reinforcement criteria
as mentioned in code

b x h x h/2 + (m-1) Ast x d + (m-1) Asc x c
x= b x h + (m-1) x Ast + (m-1) x Asc = 125.1 mm

The second moment of area about neutral axis,

INA = bx3/3 + b(h-x)3/3 + (m-1) x Ast x (d-x)2 + (m-1) x Asc x (x-c)2

3.h. Check for shear in the Wall:

Maximum Shear force at the face of the wall = #REF! kN

Actual Shear stress = Q

#REF! N/mm
Allowable shear stress = 1.90 N/mm
(As per Table 1 of IS:3370 (Part - II) - 1965)
Check for shear #REF!

4.a. Design of Grade Slab for Tension

Direct tension in the slab (from 3.b) = #REF! kN
Depth of the slab = 300 mm
Ast,reqd = #REF! = #REF! mm
Reinforcement per face = #REF! mm
Diameter of the bar = 20 mm
Spacing of the reinforcement = 200 mm
Provided area of reinforcement = 1570.80 mm

4.b. Anchorage Length required for Tension in Grade Slab Rebar:

Diameter of the bar provided = 20 mm
Grade of steel = Fe 500
Permissible stress in steel reinforcement = 0.55fy
(Table 22, IS 456 : 2000) 275 N/mm
Permissible bond stress = 0.9 N/mm
(Table 21, IS 456 : 2000)
Increase in Permissible stress in steel for deformed bars = 1.6 x 0.9
as per cl. B-2.1.2 = 1.44 N/mm
Anchorage length required = 20 x 275 / (4 x 1.44)
= 954.86 mm
