This years activity book was conceived
and created in-house by the Veer
creative team: Sheldon Popiel, Bryce
Beresh, Drew Ng-How-Tseung, and
Jenelle Gartner were the designers,
Jon Parker and Berenice Gargus were
the writers. Dan Parry, Grant Hutchinson,
and Issa Breibish will be doing all the
web creative and production related to
this book. This book (and last years) was
printed at a secret location in Canada,
by a printer who prints comic books.
We wanted to emulate that newsprinty,
comic-booky feel. If you open a spread
and take a big whiff of the spine, you
can smell the soy-based inks and the
pulpy paper. We hope that it takes you
back to your childhood, to those hot
summer days where you skateboarded
or rode your bike everywhere, buying
Cokes for the Star Wars bottle-cap-liner
contest, and then rode home and played
kick-the-can with the neighborhood
kids. When your mom called you in for
the night (Aww, mom, its not even
dark yet!), youd wash your hands,
turning the soap and the sink and the
towels dark with grime. Then after your
dad tucked you in and turned out the
light, youd wait a few minutes, take
your Archie Comics Digest or Big Little
Book from your bedside table and
your mini-ashlight with its fading AA
batteries from its drawer, and, pulling
the sheets over your head, retreat into a
newsprinty, ink-scented reverie, a small
yet satisfying rebellion against the fading
summer night.
